Hiptop/Sidekick m3-Blade
Tired of hearing about all your friends bragging about their 3G speeds? Well us Sidekick users won’t have to wait forever. We’ve heard from sources about the next Sidekick. We don’t have a release date yet, so start making your guesses, but we can almost guarantee you that it won’t be out this year. It’s Danger codename is “m3 Blade” and we hear that it will cut closer than ever before! For those that don’t remember, the Sidekick II was codenamed “m1″ and the Sidekick 3 was “m2″ so if you wanted to, you could call this the Sidekick 4 I guess. It’s also going to be 3G, which is no big surprise considering the enormous rollout of 3G coverage that T-Mobile has been doing. Other than that we’re speculating that it will have a better camera since we saw Sharp put out a 5MP camera awhile back. Last we heard there wasn’t GPS on it, but we’re hoping that will change. If you had your wishes, what do you want to see on the next Sidekick? (Other than YouTube support of course)

I think your best bet is to get a one yr contract. Its an extra $50 but at least this way, when the new one comes out you can get it for the cheap price (probably $300, but $100 isnt gonna happen). If you get a 2yr contract, then come next yr you will probably be paying full price for the new sidekick ($400?).

- moodlights again just like on the LX but you can change the colors and changeable shells like the 08′

-better apps like @ least 3 or 4 built in windows applications
-new camera features like B&W mode and all the other ones
-Swivel Screen like a real sidekick. I don’t want it 2 slide,glide,or open like the voyager
- longer video capturing like @ least 5 minutes
-Save as wallpaper mode even though I’m a PRO’ @ making themes It would be alot easier for those who don’t know how 2 make themes.

GPS. Touch screen. customizable ring tones because they barely have any good stuff. Longer video capturing( cant do much in 20 secs). Touch screen would be nice. 3g to watch streaming video. Microsoft should get involved with this one to really compete with the Iphone and the new iphone.

Realisticly, I would like to see:
a better quality picture and video camera,
support for microsoft mobile apps,
the text message limit expanded to 1000,
more internal memory,
support for an 8gig memory card,
better mp3 player and maybe internal storage space (8gigs as well) so the mp3 will run smoother with less loading due to the memory card processing time,
the notes limit expanded to at least 100,
better more productive apps (flashlight? really?) that don’t require a subscription,
louder ringing volume,
better speaker,
Faster net speeds on a more functional browser (this is good already but it can be better)
I don’t think it needs a touch screen honestly but w/e. Just make sure the keyboard stays.
Customizable ringers (in a perfect world)
A way to control your mp3 player with out having to remove the keyguard.
Better battery life
And an overall more responsive phone cause its my opinion that the update for the lx was dope but it made the phone slower. And hell why not throw in a wider screen while your at? Make sure the headphone jack stays as well.

Major things:
-Better camera (therefore better video)
-Size equal or less than LX
-Some sort of touch technology
-More comfortable Keyboard (maybe slightly cushion) (maybe touch? with ridges, so it’s as if you’re still hitting buttons)
-Ability to add and remove non required applications (I don’t use yahoo messenger, or msn messenger, or the to do list … and i’m sure that these take up speed on the sidekick)
- Better protection of the swivel technology so the connection between the screen and the keyboard doesn’t get damaged.
-less ridges so that dust doesn’t affect the device

-custom ringtones
-BEtter alarm clock with more advanced settings (ability to set it up for each day automatically)

I just wanted to address a few things with all the current features and the suggestion that were made.
1. Video recording is normal that’s how it is suppose to be it was incorporated so you can send video clips not record long video that would require a setting so that it can be changed to MMS mode to be able to record long videos.
2. The size of the video is 176×144 it is that way because again it was meant for short clips 20sec is average get a blackberry and record a video the quality and time will be the same but it can be changed so that you could record as long as you have available memory also the format is 3gp which is a poor quality because its compressed.
3. Most users complain about the lag on the sidekick so why had a touch screen but if implemented in the right be it would work.
4. I believe the speaker has a limiter on it to prevent it getting to loud but it could be improved.
5. Apps for the sidekick are up to the Carrier which is Tmobile so its up to them if they will unlock the OS to support it because then the Catalog would cease to exist and not money would really be made cause of all the free third party software.
6. Moodlights are nice but not a absolute must it still uses battery life keep that in mind.
7. All these changes would make the sidekick less affordable so be carefule what you ask for.
8. The camera I must say is a poor attempt but it does take good pictures and camera phones crave light but the main problem is the lens that keeps being used it not all about megapixels but 3MP with a good lems is perfect.
9. You all forgot about the poor transfer speed when copying files via USB this is because its 1.1 not 2.0 so that should have been taking care of long ago.
10. The screen is fine the ‘08 and Lx or both high res the ‘08 has a slightly smaller screen so therefore it will appear better since the pixels are closer together in the image.
11. A themes app would be bad for Tmobile because why pay for what you can get for free like ringtones so keep hope alive also don’t be lazy themes are easy to make.
12. Support of avi, and other codec for video would be great.
13. All these apps preloaded on the phone would be bad because you can’t delete them like the stupid game and the sidekicks are more than just a toy so users who get them don’t want all the useless extra’s.
14. With 3G being added it will open up support for live streaming which means youtube and more plus the javascript is fine a flash player needs to be added.
15. The whole Danger OS needs a new look that means all the screens should be changed to look different like SMS, MMS, Phone and you all know the rest.
16. Tabbed Browsing might be added due to 3G also wifi wouldn’t benifit the sidekick because its exclusive to Tmobile and it connects to Danger’s server so without the provisioning on Tmobiles end you can’t do a thing so stop asking for something that will be useless on the device.

well im not overly obssed with the sidekick franchise anymore because i left my lx for a bb curve =D LOL, but anywaysz…..
the things that would be extremely good on the new sidekick are:
1.) NOT TO HAVE THE DEVICE SOO LOCKED DOWN LIKE THE PREVIOUS DEVICES, AND TO ALLOW 3RD PARTY APPS. (IF THATS EVEN POSSIBLE)
2.) MUCH better camera & video recording
3.)longer video recording time
4.)If your going to add the little fun light thing-a-mi-jigs at least have it so that the color could be changed.
5.)same sized screen as the lx, but with more pixels and a higher resolution
6.) make it possibe to change the style of the interface (such as the original, as well as new ones)
7.) WIFI!!

#3) only have the jump,menu,answer and end buttons with the trackball in the middle isolated to one side of the phone

1) Web Browser needs to be drastical improved! The Run Script loading and lack of java support is extremely annoying along with visiting pages that have frames
2) Video Recording could be longer than 20 seconds
3) Upgrade the camera, 1.3 MP is unacceptable now for $300
4) Download Catalog (if ur going to make us pay for apps and ringtones), atleast make them affordable or allow them to trx from different sidekicks

I did. Actually bought two Sidekick 08’s for $49.99 each, free activation, free overnight shipping and a 30-day return option instead of the normal 14-day one. Also getting a $50 mail-in rebate so they’ll be free once that is sent. Just depends on where/how you get ‘em. Mine came straight from T-Mobile already activated and brand new. I work for a very large bank and got a corporate discount.

All I know is that I hope danger,microsoft,hiptop,t-mobile read this…. All us sidekickers really want is custom ringtones. i mean come on w.t.f we pay like $300,$400 for these phones **** t-mobile and put free ringtones on the next OS they make $20 off the data plan a month and a **** load of money off of applications and games I think that’s enough profit… if your not gonna give us any of the features we asked for and sell us the same phone with $30 tweaks in a different shell @ least give us the easiest feature to put on a phone

The only thing that the sidekick’s get better at is the sounds that they make when you press the buttons and stuff. I love flipping it and hearing the *shing* sound lol.
- Customizable mood lights is a good one, however something tells me that the mood lights won’t be on the next model.
- Way thinner and yes I mean like iphone thinner.
- I really don’t like the customizable thing.
- 3G is always a plus
- Better Camera
- NO TOUCH SCREEN AT ALL.
- A variety of colors to choose from instead of just 2 like the LX.

Ok my extra included features I would like to see in that upcoming Sidekick:
I agree on a lot of what people already stated:
*Better Camera Quality/Video Quality (that does not mean megapixel, megapixel counts is only for resolution purposes for bigger sized photo’s of course as u can see their are many phones with like 1.3-2 megapixel camera’s and are horrific)

That’s really about it, if they wanna throw in radio, and threaded text messaging, that would be cool, but not necessarily a necessity for me, just an added bonus.
All these between $300-$400 retail price would be cool and if the Sidekick Data plan has to increase just to $25-$30 (preferably $25, and included all that it has not with the messaging and stuff, and the few added things that will added on to the data usage)

Oh yeah, and I agree on the Upgraded selection of Ringtones Catalog, it should be up-to-date like iTunes song selection, every hot, and new song, should be on their, if we’re gonna have to pay for our ringtones. I don’t think any phone can come up with a camera that will be as good as a digital camera so I say why bother. For quality pics use a camera, not your phone. Improving the camera would just drive up the price, slow down the phone, and still not be up to par as a traditional camera. Also it might be difficult to have both mood lights as well as changable shells. The only features I would really like to see are tabbed web browsing, and a louder speaker for the music player. And perhaps better video support, its sucks having to convert. I love my sk08.

Honestly…I want something more realistic and useful for the next Sidekick.
1. I definitely would LOVE threaded text messages. That would honestly be the biggest improvement on the phone in my opinon!
2. Tabbed Web Browser preferrably similar to the way emails are set up.
3. A slightly better camera(maybe 3mp?) Even though I actually don’t really have much problem with the camera it has. I honestly think that if people really want like a 5mp camera…they should just go get a digital camera…
4. A facebook Application possibly similar to the one the blackberry has (because reality is…some people grow out of Myspace)
5. Last but definitely not least, Longer battery life (because none of these things matter if your battery is dead)
I’m not going to ask for improved video capabilities, touch screen, and I could honestly live without the moodlights as it does kill the battery.
Also, for those people out there who like keeping their screen’s clean when they are using the phone…What would POSSIBLY be the point of a touch screen? To get your nasty fingerprints on your screen as well as the oil from your faces when you talk on it? That’s too much screen cleaning for what I would ever want.

To Manny: Me personally, I know, and don’t want my Sidekick or phone to have digital camera quality, cause for 1 I still do frequently use my digital camera. But, the quality could be a hell of alot better than what we are getting. I had a RIZR Z3, and it wasn’t necessarily Digital Camera Quality, but it was good enough to take pictures every once, and now and then, and that’s the similar quality, I wanna have in my phone, that’s all. I’m not gone use this to take professional photo’s or print out, and stuff, everyone uses cameraphones’ every so often cause of convenience.

YouTube feature - If the SK can support Myspace, why can’t they support YouTube or another Video website?
Speaker phone - T-mobile really needs to work on this. I can hardly hear anyone when I put them on speaker phone.
Video Recording - Better Quality and more than 30 seconds. At least 5 minutes.

PEOPLE ..think about the evolution of the sidekick and how it has progressed. It’s been a steady fairly slow process.
We are not going to get a 5 MP camera ..on top of multiple TAbbed browsing …

a few thing i want is:GPS, better games(errhem..t-mobile), accelerometer, youtube access from the phone(youtube mobile), 8gig internal memory, 5.2 megapixel camera and a better camera interface, touch screen not really….maybe but only when the device is closed, bring back johnny chase and have a cool theme withe him walking around the phone giving tutorials and some other stuff, 3 inch screen theyre so close with the lx why not, exclusive danger hiptop game built in with customizable characters and gps based events, all of the n96 shoved inside with dangers newest sk interface,and last but not least mobile wallet.

Touch Screen is not all the great people, I have a touch screen phone and it drives me crazy because when you first get the phone its great but after awhile you have to keep pushing the screen for the touch to work, so a sidekick w/ touch screen wouldn’t be such a good idea!

I wouldn’t mind if they did the following:
–Rugged design
–Took OUT the moodlights (for the sake of battery life)
–Upped the processor
–Upped the ram
–Upped the battery
–Not put in a touchscreen
–Added YouTube (or full Flash {as if.})
–Moved the shift and alt keys to the trigger area (side-by-side with the triggers, preferably. This’d saved the extra keystrokes needed for texting faster.)
–Came out with a battery and phone charger, like those made for the SK ID and III by some brands because of the charge port crapping out
–Allowed for use as a modem (or whatever they call it. >_<)
–.pdf support (or was this done in one of the post-IDs?)
–kept the 08’s customizable battery door feature
–improved the camera and capture settings
–allowed for zooming on web pages
–improved web service (allowing you to click spoilers and collapsable frames in forums)
–ability to use the Sidekick as a true desktop, with a mini-usb to mini-usb connector for use with mp3 players, etc (I’m just dreaming now…)

A g3- m3 will never happen. Microsoft is trainwrecking the line and tMobile basically won’t care since the new g1 Android phone is basically a better sidekick built by Danger vets.
