Sidekick LX 2009 OTA Rolling Out
I woke up this morning to several reports from people saying they had gotten an OTA for their Sidekick LX 2009. It’s looking like this update is a combination of the bug fix OTA I mentioned awhile back and the new Mobile Backup support. You should hopefully see less crashes in your Sidekick LX 2009 once this update is applied. The OTA may cause your device to hard reset. Don’t freak out though, all your data should be backed up to Danger’s servers, so it’ll come back. And once you have Mobile Backup, your address book will be backed up to T-Mobile’s servers as well! Hooray for backup!
For those hardcore geeks, the new OS version is 5.0/270115. A couple more screenshots:

Hooray for backup!” That’s odd, I wonder why just the 09 LX’ needs Mobile Backup to backup their Address Books? Apparently the other Sidekicks don’t need this kind of update, my battery died on my 07′ LX a few days ago, lost all my data, but it was all backed-up like the old days. It all came back my restored Address Book as well.

Wow I was just wondering when I was going to get the OTA as well. About time Danger/Microsoft sent out the update. Although without the update my lx 09 hasn’t been crashing nearly as much as it had before. It did once recently but everything, including all my application settings and sound settings came back within a mintue or 2
So I’m happy that the server actually backs up everything correctly now.

Oh Wow, So It’s Not Just Me. That’s The Longest It’s Actually Taken To Install An Update I’ve Received And I See Nothing About Mobile Sync. But I Do Notice A Very Annoying Blank White Bar On The Bottom When Scrolling Through Contacts. Ughhh.

I got the ota update Monday. I went to look for Mobile backup and I still don’t have it. I called CC and she said it takes 48 hours after the ota before it’ll shows up. Its CC so I don’t know if she really knew what she was talking about.

I got an update just now, nothing new BUT all my games and apps and communities that I have installed are all in the one applications folder. Bob is the only game now actually in the games folder and the communities folder is comepletely gone.

I just got a second update and now ALL MY CONTACTS & EMAILS ARE GONE! WTH! I been with Tmobile since 2003 & a sidekick user since 2004 I have stuck with them but now I’m seriously starting to think about leaving.

Hey will someone like the last 2 people who lost all their contacts and stuff please get back with us all after a day or so and let us know if it comes back like it’s supposed to or not? I just got this 2nd OTA also and I’ve got a Sidekick LX 2007, that’s 200-SEVEN not 8! So I shouldn’t have even got this ****. And if it’s as bad as some are saying I’m just going to hard resit-delete it off my device and not install it.

But now my email accounts I have comeing to the phone (an aol and 2 yahoo accounts) they are randomly retrieveing 100 emails at a time from up to almost 2 years ago. Wtf?

Well as it turns out I got all my stuff back plus some old multimedia messages back that I had lost after the first update came through. So I guess I will take back my WTH. My phone has shut down a couple of times on it’s own since the last update but I am glad to report that nothing is missing.

I have the 2008 sidekick. I love the sidekick device and ease of use, however, I am totally had it with the data server and T mobile in general. The customer service people, (most) are nice enough, but the time and **** I have had to wade through has been exhausting. I did receive some credit on last 2 months bills after much begging and pleading. i even had one supervisor call me back and apologize for a recorded conversation from a rude rep I had spoken to to earlier. She said she would call me back in a few days to make sure I had gotten all my info back , but she never did. I did get most of contacts back. However, now the email is doing something crazy, getting messages that were sent back in april 08 and not just one, 3 or 4 of the same ones over and over. Its loaded my email box up and im constantly having to delete,delete. Another thing, is that my sidekick runs down so easily now, ever since the outage. I have to recharge a lot more often. And, I use to get good phone and data service out of Houston area and now, forget it, I reboot and reboot and still cannot get any data and limited phone service only an hour and half out of Houston area. I had the sidekick ID previously and the same thing happened to it , more and more drops and no data, until I finally (after many, many calls) had a supervisor admit that the Sidekick ID device was in general defective and out of date,,,, meaning not able to handle the new stronger signals. I think the same thing is happening to my 2008 Sidekick, its being retired too and I have only had it not even a year. And what really sucks is that my husband and I are on a shared plan and they tricked him into a 2 yr contract when he upgraded his phone recently. When we are out of town together, his little cheap phone has full service and my sidekick…..none, or spotty at best. I feel trapped with T Mobile and all i can do (and evidently i am not alone) is keep calling and complaining. They give a little credit here and there but it doesnt make up for not being able to communicate with my hearing impaired daughter (via aol instant messenger or even texting!) when barely outside our calling Hst. area!!! guess i just had to sound off

Its takes 5 mins for an email to come though after I get it.
And everytime I go to my adress book everything freezes & takes forever to find a name.

On topic, thanks to LaReyna89 for getting back with me/us @ the update data resit. I may go ahead and accept the OTA now that it appears to perhaps be worth it (I’ve had it in my menu rejected to “remind me tomarrow” the last few days since I got it). I only really had constant crash problems during the outage on my 07 so there is really nothing to fix there on this model device. cw6 mentions data problems (“not able to handle the ‘new stronger signals’ [whatever that means]“). Apparently the even older LX 07 does NOT have problems handling the “new stronger signals” or maybe the just don’t make um’ like they use to, huh? Anyhow off-topic, Sara I HAVE noticed all of that! Except the email problem seems to be a occasional problem (it’s not always that way), I find I can “force” the half-received emails to upload/”fetch” by sending nonsence IMs to “Smarterchild” on AIM works wonders (it’s a dead-bot, but sending it like 50 meaningless 1-letter IMs forces your device to keep in constant contact with the network and brings things in faster). The Address Book is a real pain in the ***! Got to keep opening and closing the device screen to make it register anything, but that does help. Also (don’t know if this OTA will change this) but although I got all my old picture-messiages back (and I mean OLD like about a year ago’s pics), I can’t get the network to back up any new pics and it keeps sending me back only the old stuff, even stuff I keep deleting, evertime I have a crash or the batt dies now! Finally stupid-as* MICROSOFT STILL can’t get the damn server to back up “special characters” (the stuff the Sidekick ITSELF supports from the Insert Character Button!) in the Address Book, To Do list AND the Catalog! Anytime the device crashes all that stuff comes back with the special characters replaced by dumb-as* “?”s, well except the yin symbol which is replaced with a “Y” (because it looks sorta like a “Y” I GUESS?!?). And anytime you upload the Catalog the copyright symbol is now a damn question mark also, LOL! Maybe if the recording industry sues Microsoft for not properly disclosing that various artist’s songs the ringtones are from are copyrighted maybe then Microsoft will pull their collective heads from their as*’s and finish the job of fixing things FULLY!

You recently received a software update that will restore application settings from the Sidekick service. A device reboot was required as part of the normal installation process for this update.

I just bought my sidekick lx09, now im reading all over the place that sidekicks are dead/dying, this thing doesn’t even play video and I can’t use a mp3 as a ringtone, and I cnat set custom backgrounds (other than downloading from the tmobile store), im seriously regreting buying this.
