Sidekick Slide is no more
Looks like Motorola had one shot at making hardware for Danger and they blew it with the Sidekick Slide. A device plagued with a simple, but glaring power flaw is being laid to rest. Rumors are circulating that the Sidekick Slide is no longer being manufactured and that once it’s sold out at T-Mobile stores (looks like it’s already pulled from online), you’ll have to end up looking for people selling the Slide on eBay if you want this small device. Don’t get us wrong, there were some nice things about the Sidekick Slide, and many people out there love it, but in the end it looks like T-Mobile decided that it wasn’t selling as well as they hoped. We’ll agree that this is probably a good decisions, since it would be pretty hard to compete with the other Sidekicks lately as it won’t be getting a video update and only comes in two colors.

I hope this does end up like the slide and so that wayy, when its time for a re-release it will be revamped(hint hint: Sidek!ck 2008)… I think that the Sidek!ck slide didn’t get any play on TV or any commericals or anything, no wayy to broadcast its features.. T-mobile should consider broadcasting their signature devices!

Not even a full year and its discountined. Well I don’t really care much for it cause it is the last Sidekick in line of all current Sidekicks out in my opinion. It just doesn’t compete with the other Sidekicks out right now. Yeah yeah bigger RAM than the LX, but seriously that’s about it and size. It doesn’t have the new features. I would have thought that it would have at least one OTA update. Guess not.
Still too bad it didn’t last a full year. I the slide screen was, what’s the word, I wanna say convenient. I guess just quicker than swiveling but I like swivel better.

The sidekick slide is still a wonderful device. I have had one for 4 monthes & I haven’t had any problems out of it. T-Mobile didn’t market the slide well at all so to be honest, im not surprised it stopped selling. And when the OTA update came out for the LX & when the sidekick 2008 came out, I knew it was pretty much over for the slide lol. Anyway, I love my slide without a video update & im glad I own one. And for people sayin I should’ve got an LX…no I should’ve gotten the device I wanted & that was the Slide. Anyway, this is unfortunate but im glad I got mine before they decided to stop selling it.

I knew they were about to get rid or the slide with the release of the new Sidekick/2008. It cost more and the 2008 is better then the slide @ about the same dimensions… If i couldnt have gotten my Slide for $50 then i wouldnt have it now.
And especially with the power off problem, even now its still an issue even if they say they fixed it, my slide still powers off annoyingly from time to time.
I like the Slide, motorola quality control just sucks.

first of all… motorolas are horrible cell phones. Now have that company make a sidekick and what do you expect? Theres a reason why Sharp/Danger has been making sidekicks since the SK1….they know what theyre doing (with the exception of the SK3). I’m a sales rep for T-Mobile, and anytime someone would ask about the Slide, I’d discourage them from buying it…even at the expense of losing commission. It just had too many problems, and would get returned way more than the LX (about 75% more). Honestly, good riddance.
PS-with sick SK’s like the LX and 2008 out now…I’m very excited to see what future sidekicks are like! Touch screen maybe when the screens closed?

About 8 monthz ago, I decided to leave alltel because I wanted a sidekick. I was deciding between the sidekick slide and sidekick lx . The lx has a bigger screen, better keyboard, it fits standard headphones, now it plays/records video, and it doesn’t have powering-off issues that the slide has. All of my phones, before the sidekick lx I have now, have been made by motorola. I love motorola but was greatly disappointed when I experienced how crappy a device the sidekick slide is in comparison to the lx. I believe we all agree that the sidekick slide is a decent device, but it pales in comparison to the lx and sidekick 2008.

The powering-off issue was solved the first month it was out. I don’t think it pales in comparison to the LX. Maybe to the 2008, but I think that they are all great devices.
No need for the superiority complex courtesy of LX users. It’s not like the OS put that huge screen to work half the time anyways, especially having those frequent hard-resets and spinning disk on the top left corner.
Marketing sucked for the Slide, and Sharp now will have monopoly on Sidekick hardware, which really doesn’t make me happy as now, who will I run to when my backlight, speaker, and other suckage in part of Sharp comes around? Everybody was quick to forget how ****** Sharp’s hardware has always been. Good buy Slide. I’ll be buying another one of you as you are one of a kind in a world that is as racist as it rejects design changes.

Wake up…. Itz over for the sidekick slide. I like my sidekick lx, but even it iz missing some features that I wish it had. However, the lx has more features than the slide does. The only thing the slide has on the lx is louder speakerphone and MAYBE higher volume. And I dont even use tha dang speakerphone…. And I got my sidekick lx for $99 back in January when they had a promo going on at Fry’s. So im winning either way. I just wanted a decent sidekick, so when I had to choose between the lx and slide at both the same price, the lx alwayz winz. And it lookz like I made the right decision as slide is now obsolete and the lx was even given at ota update. I guess I got lucky by choosing my better judgement. I will alwayz love Motorola tho. lol……

I knew it wasn’t going to last. It started off bad. Plus dedicated sk users seem to like the swivel. I ditched the lx…never wanted a slide. Got an 08 now. The slide…even with better speaker doesn’t compare to the sks that are out right now.

Recently I got the lx. Its the bomb. But before I had the slide. It wasthe best phone I ever had. Loud *** speaker. O the screen on the lx may be bigger but the one on the slide is way brighter. I live in aus and we don’t have t mobile or lx s here the lx concept doesnt go down real good over hear because everyone complained the hiptop 3 was to big the lide is well loved over hear and still available todays date being 9 th of december makes me think that its only died in america so if u want one check out ebay u will get a new one ours don’t shut off either
