okay so im tryign to change my background switch im still confuse about. but i did all the steps that shows. but one problem. THE THE DOCUMENT IS ZIPP! HOW DO YOU UNZIPPED IT

You unzip it by right-clicking the file, and select EXTRACT ALL.

If that doesnt work, go to www.7zip.org and download a extracter

I'm a new member of the hiptop community, and happy to be so .

I've been working hard to crack the illusive System-Widget-Style. I've got six or seven hours down the hole, with no desernable progress. Any made any progress they would like to share? Is it true that it can only be accessed with a developer key?

Does anyone know where I can find this Paris theme? Is it one of your free ones that I can just download? It has a cartoon of paris and tinkerbell and says "that's hot" when flipping the screen!

I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE! Please help!!!

whats known about tha "WHY" you cant use your own sounds as ringtones? don't mean financially but technically/ software-icly speaking?

for example acidangel found out all those strings for changing theme aspects and sound. theiy're based on tricking tha OS.

sidekick 3 CAN use mp3s as ringtones but it TMO that has it locked out. for obvious financial reasons. but HOW is it done?
my completely unedumacated guess is that tha ringtones are delivered thru tha catalog in a certain format (compression). if we know what format that was maybe we could convert tha desired mp3 to that format and have what we wanted.

or maybe a smart developer with an alter agenda could design and get an app into tha catalog that had a hidden "back door" written into tha code that would allow you ta do this.

i have no problem with TMO makin they money but like most people complain about what they offer isn't neccessarily what they want. especially if you ain't listen ta mainstream music. i guarantee i cant find NINE in tha catalog. Or maybe i wanted someones voice. whatever.... tha least TMO could do wold be to offer a way to upload an mp3 and have it sent back to our own SK for a charge. besides most people i know are too lazy ta use a computer for "custom' ringtones they just download them anyway cuz its easier n more convenient.

POINT IS, IF MORE OF US KNEW "HOW" IT WAS BEING RESTRICTED, tha better chance we have of figuring a way around it.

Yes. And he is a developer(like myself.) He knows how the sidekick works. I dont know as near as much as him.

Anyways, this is impossible. We had themes on the sidekick already, so we could modifiy that.

We dont have the rintones. So cant work with something that isnt there.

T-mobile hasnt allowed sidekicks to use your own ringtones since day 1.

Why start now.

i thought i had read in dangers version of tha manual that you COULD use your own mp3s as ringtones with instructions how to do it. i was also under tha impression that it was allowed in tha UK. THAT, coupled with tha fact that i hear its possible if you have a developer's key.

because, honestly, i don't believe TMO will change it. from a business perspective i can see why, even tho it don't make sense considering tha other non SK phones can do it... and tha fact that ppl are paying an extra 20 a month automatically for SK data service. anyway, this thread probly isn't tha place ta get into all that. tha bottom line is its not allowed period.

But there HAS to be some way if its possible but just has tha option locked up. now tryin ta make it play video would be a different story. probly not possible. so i do understand theres limitations.

since your a developer i have 3 questions
1)HOW do they lock out tha mp3 ringtone ability? (assuming i was right that danger designed tha option and tmo locked it)
2)other than having a developer key, has any way been discovered to add apps other than from tha catalog?
3)would it be possible to forge/counterfeit a developer key if you had the IMEI for tha intended device?

if you want i can leave an email, or AIM if you think its better ta talk about it that way...
