How is the MDA?

For those that have one, how is the MDA? How does it compare to the sidekick?

MDA is too small in every way and as SK users (regardless is SK1 or SK2!) we are spoiled with one of the best if not THE BEST keyboard.

Also the screen even same size as the SK seems alot smaller, due to many reasons, all I can say is go a check it out Im sure you'll be willing to wait on SK3 after playing with it a little!

my experience

Postby jizzle77 on Sun Feb 26, 2006 11:09 pm

I brought the MDA tuesday and a bluetooth earpiece and a MSD card and its all going back tomorrow. I had the worse experience with it, no one from support knows how to trouble shoot it, my SD card got corrupt and the system wouldnt recognize it after i had to do a hard reset and now the wifi and the web browsing wont work. Its a cool looking phone, but it has been nothing but a headache since tueday....i really had high hopes for this :(
I guess ill have to wait for the SK3 because using a phone shouldnt be this difficult.

MDA is good for me

Postby xoangeladawnox on Fri Mar 03, 2006 12:25 am

:D I got the MDA on February 21st and have had plenty of time to get used to the different style in comparison to my previous SK2. The MDA has numerous capabilities that the next sidekick won't even compare...I mean really. It is has a Windows operating system...what's the sidekick got? Not that. :D

So is that a positive or negative thing?

MDA lasted just 1 day with me

Postby Susenmc on Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:00 pm

I'm a sidekick user (still have my ragtag Sidekick 1) and I was excited about the new MDA. It was a major disappointment. The store clerk told me that tmail would be able to hook up to the "built in email" -- but not true. I hooked up my AOL to through MS Outlook, and email took 20 minutes to go through to fellow SK users. Not fast enough for a "hey where are you guys" page. smile.

Plus the navigation was hard to figure out. Missed the jump screen and the scroll wheel - the stylus was too much to drag out all the time. But great phone, way cool video camera, and nice widescreen view of internet pages.

In the end I just couldn't live without the easy access to the tmail and the quick response of the pages. The MDA is a phone/pda for people who want to check their email. The sidekick is a pager. So I returned the MDA and now I'm hoping that rumors of a SK3 aren't a hoax.

MDA

I'm new to T-Mobile and walked into a Houston, TX store to purchase a Sidekick II that I'd heard so much about. I was "convinced" by the store manager that the MDA would be what I'm looking for and purchased 2 (family plan). Although it is a really neat phone, my curiousity is still theres for the SK2. I can check my email, download attachments, and browse the web with quickness! I don't have a T-Mobile personal email address (which I think is so cute) and I'd much rather have a user-friendly keyboard (which the SK2 offers). Nothing is actually WRONG with either phone, it's simply personal preference. I, too, was told by a store manager that a Sidekick 3 would be coming, date undetermined. I'm hoping that it will offer the high-speed web access, WIFI, and all that good stuff so I can switch whenever it does come out on the market. I do like the MDA, I just think the SK3 is cuter! What can I say? I'm a girl! :D

tmail

Postby Ely on Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:40 pm

Why are you guys getting so upset about the mda not doing tmail. Tmail.com is an alias for for the danger server that runs the sidekicks services. I never used my tmail.com address because you cant control the spam on it.

I have the MDA now and I love it. For those of you that are having issues with it dont call TMO go to xda-developers.com. The original name of the MDA is Wizard to just look there for the help you need. Using an overclock program found there you can get Skype working fine over wifi and if you have to probably over edge too.

The MDA was a good device, but it didn't compare. Phone was buggy, several soft resets while answering calls. SLOW interface...e-mail app took on average 10 seconds to open after clicking the button. Anyways, I took the full 14 day trial period, but ended up bringing the MDA back. The sidekick II just does everything easier and faster. Do I NEED to listen to music/watch movies on my phone? No, my iPod does that so much better.

Got the MDA (previous SK II user) and i will be taking the MDA back. first off for data users only, the plan costs a lot, theres no unlimited text, no tmail (i had a lot of contacts reaching me thru tmail alone), they wont let me drop the T-Mobile hot zones off of my plan, and AIM + Yahoo messengers still have yet to connect (called t-mobile, they said its a problem with thier end). I liked my SK II data with UNLIMITED texts included IN the price, and was $20 cheaper/mo. The phone itself isnt bad at all. If they had similar prices/mo. then i'd definatley keep it.

My daughter works for T-Mobile and her store has recently been selling the new MDA and although they sell out of their store order fairly quickly, there seems to be a high return rate at present because of some software gliches with the internet module or other issues. Although I am a current Sidekick II user and wanted the new MDA, my daughter has convienced me to wait awhile until they work out the gliches that are causing such a high return rate. however, i am still anxiously awaiting the new Sidekick III model.

MDA thoughts

Postby Rev on Fri Mar 17, 2006 9:46 pm

MDA isn't as good as I thought it would be. I already returned it. Horrible keyboard and dialing numbers without the stylus can be annoying. Also, windows mobile 5 is new and there are a few bugs, as well as not to many software apps i.e. a flash player. I gave it 2 weeks and now I am back to the sidekick II. The MDA does have an amazing screen and is a lot smaller than the sdk, but I have to hold out for the sdk 3. It should have all of the features that we are missing (edge, bluetooth so we don't have to hold a brick to our ear, video, STORAGE, REMOVABLE BATTERY).
