Add to your Google Calendar (and more) with IM
The other night I was talking with a friend about how great it would be to be able to access my Google Calendar from my Sidekick in order to add and view events. We lamented about the lack of a solution even though it seems like it should be possible. Then I heard about IMified this morning. IMified describes their service as such:
Imified is an instant messenger buddy that works across all major IM networks and offers access to a growing number of web applications, as well as productivity tools like notes, reminders, and todo’s. Imified helps you get things done faster.
In short, you can send an IM to their bot and Edit or View information on your different web-based applications such as Google Calendar, WordPress, Blogger, Backpack, etc. It just launched, so it’s totally beta at this point and bugs are expected as they work out the real-world usage. But so far it looks very promising! It’s also perfect for the Sidekick user as Instant Messaging is built into the device and always available. There are even shortcuts to save you the hassle of multiple IMs. Here are some more details on IMified:
Supported IM Clients:
– AIM
– Yahoo
– MSN
– Googletalk/Jabber
Supported Services:
– 30 Boxes
– Backpack
– Basecamp
– Blogger
– Google Calendar
– MoveableType
– Remember the Milk
– TypePad
– WordPress
– IMified Notes (for when you go over 50 notes on the Sidekick)
– IMified Reminders
– IMified Todos
We recommend checking it out now if you’re willing to put up with the bugs, or else just give them a few weeks and check them out when they’ve ironed out the initial issues.

You don’t need to use IM to add events to your google calendar — you can add events using text messaging. Once you enable SMS features on google calendar, you can add events by texting 48368. You can also receive notification of upcoming events or check your day’s agenda via text message. More info:

That said, you can’t VIEW your calendar using your sidekick, but you can’t view it using this IM service either…I guess I’m just not seeing how this third-party IM option is better than the text messaging options that google has already made available to tmobile users….

Thanks for the heads up, we weren’t aware of the SMS functionality already built into Google. Definitely something worth checking out.
You can somewhat view the calendar in terms of upcoming events. It lists a number of events coming up. I wouldn’t be suprised to see some functionality appear where you can show events on specific dates to check for conflicts when scheduling something.
While text messaging directly to Google sounds like the best method for GCal updates, IMified also offers a single interface for multiple other services.

IMified appears to be down and has been offline intemittently for months. The company does not respond, and may be out of business entirely.

Jott is the service I use to post Google Calendar — no IM or Text necessary, just your cell phone. Jott transcribe your voice to text and sticks it in the Calendar. Works great.

I’ve been viewing my google calendar through the web browser on my LX. I go here:
https://mobile.google.com/calendar/index.html
login, and then I can see upcoming events, and add events to my default calendar. I can even change which calendars I’m viewing. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than nothing.
