Anh’s Recap of the Sidekick 3 Launch party
Anh Nguyen has a great recap of the Sidekick 3 launch party, complete with photos. Go check it out here. He also has a review of the device up. For those of you that don’t like to read, we’ll go through and give a brief summary when we’re not at work. 🙂
The short of it:
The Sidekick 3 release party was held in Hollywood, CA at Hollywood Palladium, where the theme was “Play, Laugh, Dream, Celebrate.” It sounds like it had a very carnival/playground feel too it, with games, cotton candy, scantily clad women, slides, and swings. The celebrities were all out, with attendees such as: Jose Conseco, Aaron Carter, Taylor Cole, Kristin Bell, Rachel Bilson, Sarah Carter, Christopher Knight, Adrianne Curry, Carlos Mencia, Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, Shane West, Chris Masterson, Laura Prepon, Haylie and Hillary Duff, Kristin Cavalerri, Serena Williams, Marques Houston, Vida Guerra, J.C. Chasez, Kelly Monaco, Christina Milian, Jadakiss, Jason Mewes, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Misha Barton, Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, Mike Tyson, and some totally random basketball players. DJ AM provided the tunes from the turntables.
There were about 200 people in attendance, and the whole block was closed off. There was also an ice sculpture of the Sidekick 3, and if anyone has good pics of this, we’d love to see them! No idea if there were gift bags and if so what was included in them. If you have a few minutes, definitely go check out Anh’s write-up, as well as photos of all the celebs at his site.

On Anh Nguyen’s website, it says that the SK3 will be $300 with a 2 year contract upgrade 🙁
Now, this guy was actually AT THE PARTY. I kind of have to go with his word on this one. He might know something.

So I keep hearing this 6/28 upgrade date, but the tmobile i go to, the guy told me that it was for 2 stores only (Santa Monica, CA and somewhere in New York?)
And then I called Customer Service (because the sidekickIII website said something about 6/28 also), but person who I talked to seem like she had no idea.

Existing T-Mobile customers can upgrade over the phone or via my.t-mobile.com on the 28th.

So here’s some info for people who are confused about the June 28 date.
On June 28 ANY T-Mobile customer (not just SK users) get a chance to UPGRADE (not trade in like last time) to a SK 3. This will be like your typical phone upgrade. At midnight (I’m not sure which time zone) You can either log on to T-Mobile.com and go to My T- Mobile and order it there, OR call Customer Care and order it from them. Phones usually take between 2-7 business days to ship to your house.
There will be TWO T-Mobile stores in the country that will have the SK3 for sale (for T-Mobile customers looking to upgrade) on June 28. One in California, the other in NYC. If you can go and get it at one of those two locations you will have the phone in your hands on that day.

From what tmo reps have told me the sk3s will be available not just in la and nyc but all oveer the country for current tmo customers to upgrade…

idk what is so hard for you guys to understand about that. and dont listen to tmobile reps u talk to on the phone. you know what those people are? they are people who sit in front of a computer and type in “sidekick 3” when you call them. and i doubt that t-mobile will have the NYC and LA store info and all the details in the customer care computer system.
the only thing i wana know is if u can pay extra for expidited shipping… i will go [insane] if i have to wait a week for it to ship.

I think i will def try and have it sent overnight because my sk2 is in horrible shape. My Q button is gone and ive dropped it a million and one times. Also I know this is a little off topic but my boss got his mens health mag today and guess wat was the there, that ad about the sk3 i know some ppl didnt think the ad was real but it def is. =)

Hey guys, if I were to buy a sidekick II right now on Tmobile.com the data plan would cost me 30.00 per month… so how are u guys paying 20.00 and how do u think it will be 20.00 on the sidekick III when the data plan includes so much more?

Yes smubound, you don’t have to be in LA or NYC to upgrade over the phone/internet but you DO have to be in LA or NYC if you want to go to a store and pick it up on June 28. But not every store in LA and NYC will have the devices available. Only one store per state mentioned.
And yes, n64ssb is right, T-Mobile reps usually don’t know anything about the SK, let alone the SK 3 BUT I did call a few days ago for another matter and somehow the conversation led to the SK3 and the rep actually was able to access a lot of info on the release dates and he even told me the locations of the two stores. This isn’t top secret info, any rep you call SHOULD give you this info if you ask for it. I didn’t even have to ask.
n64ssb, if the “expediated” shipping is for 3 days I would’nt pay extra for it, that’s how long it usually takes anyway. If you order it through CC or online on the 28th, I’d expect it by Monday. But then again, this device is so popular, it might take more time…
