First Hand Account of the Sidekick 2009/Blade
We’ve been emailing back and forth with a reader who claims to have actually held and played with the Sidekick 2009/Blade. We won’t spill the details on how because we don’t want anyone to get in trouble, but here are some of the things he said:
* It looks pretty much like the mock-ups we’ve seen so far, stripe along the back and all
* It’s lighter and “has a more grown up feel to it”
* The keys are more flush with the device and are “flat not round like the lx”
* The USB and headphone jacks are indeed on the bottom of the device
* There is a flash for the camera
* There’s an app for your “My T-Mobile info” that lets you pull up your info (minutes used, sms sent, account info, etc)
* There are lights running along the top of the screen part. Mood-lights anyone?
* It’s being called “Montreal” as an internal codename for T-Mobile. “Blade” is the internal name at MSDanger. It will be sold as the Sidekick 2009.
* It will be running DangerOS 5.0
I know, this is just “some guy said” sort of news, and as such we’re still kind of required to toss this in the “Rumors” category. That being said, we’d put money on the above statements being true.

this is awesome!! ive had my lx for 1 1/2 years its time for my upgrade:D
i cant wait until this comes out! i really hope it has 3G and that we are able to see youtube videos that would be absoulutly awesomeee!

“Rumor” or not more “rumors” here are true than not, and sure more so than that “other SK site”. Oh wait, I forgot they never tell anyone sh*t, just denyals there from the administration about anything not already out! And usually it’s out a few days before it’s “news” lol! I think the biggest problem I have with my LX is that it lags sooo much. I HATE the lag on this thing.
All these things sound cool but hopefully it has a way better processer and 3G of course, but leave the Grandfathered Data plans alone!!!!

Does it have Rubber EDGES (like in the SK 2) ?

Slow as the SK2 is, it never falls from yr grasp because the rubber edging makes it so GRIPPY … the rare times it slips your grip, it just bounces on that rubber – thing is built like a tank anyways. SK2 also has the best keyboard.
Contrast that to the SK3, which is a shatter-queen. (and other later ones, I hear)

[Setnakt says] according to the full story(s) here it does have “mood lights” but only 2 not 4, also it swivel’s. I doubt there will ever be another “sliding” Sidekick, that was a crappy idea from even crappier Motorola who are no longer making Danger devices (thank god!). The cost? Good question. I won’t speculate, just saying what I know, not guessing. But that’s what’s up on that.
Speeking of which someone (else) said “it won’t be an upgrade without G3 &/or GPS” or some shite to that effect. To whoever that was, try reading all the stuff here, if you had you would see it has G3 and GPS. And your welcome.
Now if someone could explain to me what the h.e.-double-toothpicks, big woop is about a crappy touchscreen!?!? Screens are to look at not type on, what’s next morris-code flashing keyboards instead of screens? Weird. and better yet why anyone would want a touchscreen AND a keyboard?!? Makes no sence! If you want a touchscreen get a Blackberry Storm or something, Sidekick’s are for people who like to type on a keyboard and aren’t too lazy to flip open a lousy screen(!). Anyone who *needs* both (keyboard AND touchscreen) get 2 freaking phones and see a psychiatrist in the morning. Peace.

My LX is the best phone I have had on T-mobile. The Wing sucked badly, and the Dash was nice but battery and other issues ended that badly. I hate that as a loyal t-mobile customer I will be paying out the @** even with the upgrade.
I am guessing about $350-400 for T-mobile customers, and $200-300 for new contracts, but that is purely speculation. Maybe T-Mobile will get a grip on reality and price it just over the G-1, but I doubt it.
And touchscreens suck. My wing would put calls on hold because my face brushed the screen during a call. Sidekicks aren’t meant to have touchscreens, and I am glad. I wish they would come out with more document/pdf editing and viewing support though. That’s the only thing I miss about my Windows smartphones.

dababy lol thats true about the thing u said bout the wing…. but i got the dash rite now and when i am talking on the phone, the volume of the call goes up and sometimes down cuz my face gets brushed against the jog bar…(the touch type thing for volume on side…)

i honestly think it will be the same as when all hiptops come out. why should this one be so much more expensive?
when the think about it, its almost as if the technology going into it is old. bluetooth? yeah so what, its been done. GPS? becoming more and more common. 3.2 megapixel camera? try the 8 megapixel camera on the ericsson C905.. or the 5 mega pixel cam on the N95. and the the other stuff like the software and whatnot has been done in previous models. so its not like this phone has any real reason to be super duper expensive. where i work, we had the hiptop 3 and the slide; the hiptop 3 was $689, and the slide is $549…. i know there were some improvements on the slide (such as the screen clarity/brightness) but it managed to be even cheaper. so, IMO, this isnt gonna be such a strain on the wallet.
