Get a Credit for the Sidekick Data Outage
Did your weekend suck because you didn’t have data service? Were you one of the unlucky ones who had a hard reset and spent the weekend with an empty address book and no social life? Give T-Mobile Customer Care a call (611 from your Sidekick or 1-877-453-1304 from any phone) and request a credit on your account for the data service downtime. We’ve heard reports of varying credits ranging from $5-$30, so good luck! Let us know how much you get and when you finally get data service back! We got a credit, but are still waiting on that pesky G to come back. We recommend you straight up ask them for a full month of service credit.
T-Mobile is reporting that users should be getting service back shortly, and that you’ll need to log in to the Danger servers with your username and password that you probably setup ages ago. If you can’t remember your login info and you didn’t get a reminder text from T-Mobile, give them a call to reset it.

Glad you mentioned that everyone got a username/password text, I saw it and freaked. Thought someone was trying to get my acct info.
I called customer service and got nowhere, so I took the advice of a couple other SKers and used the online chat, where I was given a full months’ data credit ($34.99). After all the frustration I went through being told from the 1800 that I wouldn’t even get a lousy 2day prorate credit, I’m pretty pleased.

Danger Inc. and Microsoft run the backend service that hosts email,IM etc. The Web Browser, oddly enough, is also proxied by Danger/MSFT but works fine.
MSFT has no interest in keeping the Sidekick brand around-as it is trying to hawk a horrible consumer device called PINK(internal name.)
T-Mobile and MSFT have also had a bad relationship since the Danger acquistion because T-Mobile was not interested in MSFT PINK and MSFT told T-Mobile they were a 3rd rate carrier not worth producing a Sidekick for. Since Danger was under contract to deliver a new device and at least one new upgrade in software, MSFT was forced by lawyers to fulfill it’s obligations. But delivering a product with a backend service is not the same as maintaining the product line’s backend service.
It costs MSFT about 1,000,000 a day in penalties when the service goes down. The service is supposed to be up 99%. 1 Million is nothing to MSFT(it was to start up Danger Inc.)
MSFT has a deal to deliver PINK to a bigger competitor(Verizon is named) and could be trying to kill the Sidekick brand off and driving customers to the other carriers.
Also, the MSFT backend service has been “upgraded” to support PINK devices lately. The failure to fix the data services point straight to Danger/MSFT-not T-Mobile. TMobile is being held hostage by MSFT I am guessing

First time I called, the line just went dead after I hit 3 for (Sidekick Problems) and hung up.
The second time, when they asked for a phrase, I said Sidekick, and the Automated System thought I said Callertunes.

Got my $20 credit. For those who don’t need to log in but received the text anyways, ignore the text and delete it. You don’t need it. To get through all the automatted machine systems is easy. It will first ask for a language, say english(or spanish if that’s your preference) then ignore the next set of options, just say operator, it will ask you to clarify, just say operator again and it will connect you to a representitive. It will ask for the last 4 digits of the primary account holder’s social security number. Your set though, work the system, don’t let the system work you.

I did it for two of my friends and when I decided to do it for another friend, they changed it up on me. They said that they were going to credit you when you get your service back. You will have to call them and they will give you the amount of money equivalent to the amount of days you were without data.

I have my Sidekick on pre-paid. Yes, to an extent you can get reimbursed. But since your not in a legal bind with them, (ie: 2 year contract) they don’t have to do anyhing for prepaid customers if they choose not to nBut I got my $5 and I took it and ran.

Uh, you should be able to sign in going to Menu, then “Sign In” Should be at the top where settings should be. If not then you have to wait for the sign in screen to pop up. Man, T-Mobile messed up big time. It’s been signing in for like half an hour and it still hasn’t happened.

My wife and I were so pissed at tmo that we canceled our service, went with AT&T and got the new iPhone 3GS. We are determined NOT to pay the full disconnect fees and hope everyone else that got fed up and fled to do the same. The touch screen on this iPhone isn’t that bad either. You get used to it in a couple of days and the speed is amazing. R.I.P. Sidekick. It’s been a long and lovely but sure in the hell bumpy road!

T-Mobile has the best customer service as far as cell phone carriers are concerned so they have no problem keeping you happy as long as you don’t let up. I just had called them and they gave me a $39.99 Credit Towards my account. At a point im a little relaxed but that $39.99 isn’t going to bring roughly 800 of my contacts back. Im still a little pissed about this but then I’m some what alright because i have half of my numbers in a black book which im greatful for (also the $4o credit). Im tired of this T-mobile situation already, so im also happy because my contract ends the 24th of this month. So Im going to give T-mobile one more shot but if they screw it up another time im gone because that was there third chance. And here i come Verizon, a carrier I KNOW I CAN ALWAYS TRUST EVEN AROUND THE HOLIDAYS WHEN THERES NO SERVICE AT ALL!

sean, you are supposed to get a text message with your sign in information, then eventually you will get a pop up message telling you to sign in, after you do so, i think you should be getting your data back (contacts, messages, emails, settings, etc). personally i got a text but didnt get the sign in thingy yet, i am signed in at the moment though, guess i have to sign in again when it asks

they are still free, even though they don’t show up on your phone because of the client is part of the data through danger, the actual fave 5 numbers that you have are set in the t mobile system. so you don’t need to worry. if you log into your account on t mobile online you will see in the bottom left your fave 5 numbers are still shown unlike the rest of your contacts. so the numbers are still looked at as free. no worries.

i just wanted to let you know, as long as you switch to a phone that offers a data package you should be able to keep the 19.99 a month data plan instead of having to pay the new price. i have had a few people come into my store that have switched phones because of all this, and i gave them the 19.99 price. if you call them again, or go into a store, simply explain to them that you have been a loyal customer and though you could just cancel your contract and jump ship you are still willing to stick with t mobile, just want to switch phones, they should give you the grandfathered price. if not, call up customer service and tell them everything i have told you.

Now I havent looked at any other phones because I love my Sidekick — but with all the Microsoft/Danger **** I’m concerned the kick is going nowhere. Especially since the LX 09 has such little improvement — i still have the original LX.
I asked the counselor for a comparable device and she advised me to go with the Google phones of course — I HATE the G1. Or a Blackberry — eecckkk

alright i wasn’t going to comment back on this, but something you said is REALLY bothering me. if you have been with t mobile for 7 years and in fact have been a loyal sidekick user, then i would demand that you are allowed to keep the 19.99 price. t mobile has the best customer service dept that is no secret, and for someone who has been such a loyal customer you deserve to keep the low price. we should be bending over backwards to keep you aboard the t mobile ship and i honestly want to say thank you for sticking with us as long as you have.
also, the g1 is really nothing like the sidekick, though i work for t mobile and shouldn’t really say any negative things about any of our phones i will say this, if you use your sidekick primarily for texting and keeping in contact with friends then the g1 is not for you and i wouldn’t want you to have to settle for less then what you really want. the same thing for blackberry, blackberry is designed for a completely different consumer group, and you will quickly find if you switched to a blackberry that the interface is not as simple as that of the sidekick as well as the size and postitioning of the keys just leads to frustration. i tried using a blackberry for a few days while i had to send it my sidekick for repairs and it left my head hurting.

Joe — you said it perfectly. I HATE the blackberry keyboard. I just love the sidekick bottom line. I just wish they would get up to speed with technology of other phones out there now.
I really do appreciate your input it helps a lot. Is there a different department I should speak with? Is there a loyalty department?
I was not treated the best by that rep but I can understand the frustration of dealing with all this **** and taking call after call when you cant really tell the customer much – So i went with what she said.
You are really making me feel better about this whole situation …

though i can understand the customer service reps frustration with this situation it still does not justify them being anything less then grateful to you for your continued loyalty to our company. now, for when you call and it asks you the nature of your call just say customer service, and i think it asks you to explain the nature of your problem as well, say customer service for that as well, there are a few different departments that would need to handle the various issues you are wanting to tackle and by saying just customer service they can direct you to where you need to go. also, just some advice when you call, do not let the rep lead the conversation. make it very clear to them why you are calling and what you want done and have them work with what you have said, we have guidelines with how we are to handle situations but truth be told, when it comes down to it, we can do whatever we want. if you are still not satisfied with what your told, don’t take no for an answer, ask to speak with their boss or someone in charge. don’t back down, persistance will get you pretty far in the cell phone bussiness believe me. if you are still on the fence about switching phones after all of that, go to our website and check out our new motorola phone coming out, its a touchscreen and also has a slide out keyboard that is pretty functional, it would probably be the next best thing when it comes to being compared with how easy it is to stay in touch with people when you use your sidekick.
again i hope all this helps, and i wish you luck when you call. as i am sure you know, when calling customer service you never have the same experience twice lol.

If not I’ll wait it out — i still dont think the $20 credit is enough compensation — so if I call I will go with your advice.

because of the loss of the calandar & the notepad, I owe $90 for 2 missed appts. & my son lost ALL of his lyrics to his music! This is totally unbelieveable! thank god I saved 230 phone numbers to my sim card, but I am still missing about 100 that I forgot to save. I get one $20 credit for my phone & my son a $35. We pay $150 a month!

i still haven’t gotten ANY of my notes back & it’s been a month! WHAT DO I DO?! i heard people who don’t end up getting there data back, receieve $100 or something, is this true? im just geting really aggravated with all this!
