Get Your Sidekick LX Video OTA NOW!
youngplatinummusic recorded a video with a trick that will help you get the OTA if you’re patient and willing to try something over and over. We recommend doing this late at night when the network isn’t being used as much. You’ll have a better chance of getting your OTA quick and easy if it works. Let us know your results in the comments.
Step 1. Restart your device
Step 2. Do not sign into any apps or send any data……press menu+ o for good luck lol
Step 3. Watch your G7 for 3 minutes if the white swoosh isnt pulsating fast through the 7 then u need to restart (you can even go to network settings press menu + m if ur bytes recieved start counting fast ur good)
Step 4. Restart your sidekick as many times until your g7 continues to pulsate with white streak FAST & NONSTOP…10 minutes later it should still be moving even when ur not logged into messenger or texting or emailing….once u realize its doing the trick…lay ur sidekick down and in about 30 minutes ur OTA will be here…

this actually works. i am on the danger board and they were posting about this a few days ago. i restarted my phone 4 times around 3 a.m. ( not even thinkin about the server usage ) and my 7 started lighting up and my bytes went up like crazy. within id say 10 minutes i had the first update. then when they loaded i fell asleep. when i woke up the 2nd ota was right there waiting. so indeed this method does work. idk about the m+0 or w.e. i didnt do none of that, just a simple restart of the phone and get off your apps and i had it. so if you didnt get yours yet. try it

Yeah, I tried this yesterday afternoon. It took me about 10 tries, but it was well worth it. I haven’t received my Firmware OTA yet.

Yes!! This really does work!!! I got it on the 4th try!! & I told my boyfriend & my friend & they both got it 2!!! It took them a lil more tries though because they did theirs in the afternoon…but mines was @ like 4:30 am & it worked quickly!! I don’t care what nobody has 2 say….it really does work!!!

i actually used this method to force the OTA on my sidekick 2 a few years back, so i know for sure it definitely works, but hiptop3 kept saying how absolutely sure they were that there was no way that you could force the update on the lx, i didn’t even try it.

You mean restart it then go to setting>Network status> menu+m then look at bytes received until I reach 12.5 m instead of k ? Then leave it for about 30 minutes then OTA will pop up ? Am I right ? Correct me if I am wrong.

i started trying the trick at around 7PM on and off until around 11, it didn’t seem to work so i tried again at 1:09AM, my 7 started going insane and my update screen just popped up! it works very easily later at night, i got it to work on the first try.
your phone is downloading in kilobytes, not megabytes. kilobytes are smaller than megabytes. you need to restart it again.

when we say all ur apps we mean ALL ur apps anything that requires data ( the G7 thingy) including aim msn yahoo the browser ( dont use it ) myspace if u have it anything that uses data.. just simply uncheck the save password box and delete your password from all ur apps and then start restarting ur phone.. it wont sign u in if you uncheck and delete your password

So, I think I am in the process of getting my update. Here’s what happened:
I spent all day, since I first logged on to HT3.com and saw the post about the new OTA trick, trying to get it. I restarted my device over 30 times, I kid you not.
Well, I went to sleep a few times and woke up and kept doing it. Well, I woke up, for good, about 10 minutes ago at 5:00AM — only to discover that I had no service. Yeah — phone bill was past due.
So, I went ahead and paid my expensive $170 phone bill (I let it build up), and then I restarted my device and ever since the “G7″ has been going crazy and I’ve received over 9MB of bytes as of 5:25AM, and it began around 5:18AM.
So, I believe I am getting my OTA. I’ll follow up soon.

i tried this for 4hrs n stop. i even try forcing the kb 2 go up by fetchin stuff of the catalog 4 example previews of themes and stuff.but thats not the trick.than i tried it on my girls new sdk lx around 11pm n got it in 3 tries. U just gotta RESTART it if you dont see you g7 swooshing right away and going up to like 400kb after 3 minutes just resart over n when you go to network settings n press menu +m its just 2 see n check how much kb u R recieving its not part of the trick. it usually goes up like crazy n turns into mb right away. so than you know your good. but the trick is just to restart and a little bit of luck! i got mine this morning around 7:30 after the 3rd restart. by the way idk if anyone has realized this but the newer sdk lx have a white scroll ball and the ones that were released last year have a black one. maybe thats why my girl got hers right away and it only needed to got to 5.9mb. mines went to 12.4mb. just thought i would mention it. thanks! just be patience and try it at random times. dont go crazy yourself it will come. watch a movie or something in the mean time. Hhahahhahaa… After 99045745784957 friggin tries… It actually worked. Thing is that I didn’t know when to press MENU+O… So I pressed it tons and tons of times during the power up. After your phone powers up and you see the home menu with the icons, go to menu, settings, then network… Then press MENU+M another secret menu comes up to tell you the bytes you’re getting. If the bites keep counting (FAST) and the white dot is going through the 7 then it’s working… This should start happening rapidly, it takes about 3 or so minutes to see if your bytes are counting up… but if you notice (after 3 minutes or so) that the white dot isn’t going through the 7 anymore and it’s solid black, then you need to restart and try the same steps again. This will take a bunch of patience… So I suggest you take off your keyguard and have your backlight set to go off in 15 minutes cause it’s gonna take a while. When your phone reaches 12.5M then the update will come. After that restart do the same process again going to the network settings, it should do the same thing… Then another update will come after… GOOD LUCK! I’m so happy… Now lets see what the hype is about… TOOTLES!!!

It really doew work. The thing is that everything needs to be signed out of. If you get your AOL or YAHOO mail on your phone, delete these accounts. Remove all passwords on everything. Once this is done, turn off ur phone then turn it on, then you bytes should continue to increase and increase. After about 40 minutes, my update was here.

honestly the whole restarting thing may work..
but i might have a better solution that wont have u restartin ur fone overrr and over…
basically wut i did was go into aim.
hit menu + j on the buddy list..which will bring up chatroom search field..
log into a couple of REALLY popular chats.. ( e.g. sidekick , sidekicklx , miami)..you can type in other things..just kinda play around with diff. names.
then leave it runnin over night..
u can check your bytes in the network selection screen..
and they will be rising like crazy!! it does take a lil while..mine at 2M (not 2K) now..
hopefully if i leave it runnin the update will be there by mornin!! i will llet yall know…wish me luck =]

I didn’t reset. I just use MENU and Power off then Power on right away then when you are in.. go to MENU immediately>Network Status then wait for 1 minutes.. If it didnt reach before 12k or more then Power off quickly and try again.. If it reach 2m then leave it alone and it will go crazy for a while at least 5 minutes perhaps and it will be going and going and reach 12.5m and OTA will appear right way. Your best way is make sure you have good network in your house for better received. Good luck.

Aside from the browser, I’m really digging the sk08- but god the browser is just WAY too outdated. I gotta have my.yahoo- and it just loads like a nightmare now.
lots of forums and stuff use newer CSS that just go to heck in the sidekick browser.
for this reason i went to at&t and test drove an iphone all day- the browser works.. but its clunky slow machine, and that touch keypad is awful.
I’ve got about 20 more days to reach a conclusion
I love the SK- but MAN THEY NEED TO FIX THAT CRAPPY BROWSER
we need multiple windows like the iphone.
we need to be able to view pages properly like the iphone (my.yahoo, igoogle, etc)
we need flash
we need animated gifs
we need a REAL zoom in/out using the dpad or whatever like the iphone does with fingers

Well, if you notice it is going over 12 k and maybe 18k or more then you are good to go and dont restart and leave it alone but if it is getting stuck at least 1 or 2 minutes then try again until you finally reach 2 m then you are good to go and leave it alone until it reach 12.5 m and you got ota update!

Btw its 2:30am where I am. Anyways……
So I’m doing the whole turn on/shut off thing. I did it about 10-15 times. I did it one more time and my stomach growled, so I popped a pizza in the mocrowave.
I came back and was watching this segment on tv about people being under anesthesia(*sp) during surgery but they could feel everything that was going on. I was freaking out at the thought of it, so I went to get my pizza. I watched a little bit more then went to the fridge to get some water.
So I come back and look at my phone (it was already on the network status screen) and after 5 minutes it was at 3.4M! I was like “OMG!!!”, so I kept watching the G7 and it kept pulsing and the bytes kept going up.
So I was pacing around my room and kept checking the phone, the numbers kept shooting up. As soon as it got to 12.4M, I was like “I’m not getting my hpoes up, but then the update screen popped up!
I downloaded it, then when it came back on it had another update which took a little while longer to download. But it does work!

Took me like… less than 30 mintues and it worked. The update show when the ‘Byte recieved’ hit 12.5k or some around it.
*Its simple and easy. You kinda need to wait, for me it was fast… so its all good! Its worth waiting!

the “flying icons” is when you scroll downward too fast with the trackball, and the bubbly icons literally look like they break loose from an imaginary string, then fly all over the screen…its actually pretty funny. It seems to only happen with themes that you’ve downloaded and installed yourself.

I restarted at 1 AM a few times and it worked. Right when I checked the network status and saw there was something being downloaded I knew the OTA was coming. It took about 10 minutes to reach 12.5 MB and then it asked me to install. Then after I did a second OTA came and I installed that too.
You just have to restart after midnight. And yeah, the video quality isn’t that great, what did you expect? The trick is not to record the video, but put the video on your sidekick. It actually plays pretty well, put on some episodes of shows you like, you’ll be surprised how well it works.

Hello all,
For Slide useres, YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING AN UPDATE, Motorola left off these capablities when they were manufacturing your phone while Sharp included, hence the reason why the Slide was always cheaper than the LX.

I GOT MINE !!! … It is not a joke. I am here in FL. I woke up this morning at 8:00AM and restarted twice. On the third restart my bytes jumped up to 10 M … 5 minutes later I had the first update, 2 minutes later I had the second update. It’s pretty good, and so far, web browsing, email, and even the video is not that bad and I am happy with the enhancements. I was just watching one of my movie clips recently. I have called employee customer care and discussed the recent chain of events in reference to the new LX OTA update.
After extensive research and questioning my supervisors (and customer care supervisors), we’ve come to the conclusion that no one has found a “force update” for the LX.
The bulk of OTA updates have just seemed to be happening close to or around the date of the youtube video posting, even for people who are not using the “Force” method. The updates simply seem to finally be finishing out.

Simple explanation:
As more people get the ota, and as the OTA rate per hour is raised, the “randomness” becomes less and less and turns into a “first-come-first-serve” rollout almost.
Constantly restarting the device forces a “check-in” to the OTA service, at this point in time if their just so opens to be an open slot when you check the service you basically cut in line. You’re not forcing anything to happen, just gambling for a spot in line.
This wouldn’t of worked the first week or two of the OTA roll-out. Usually only after a few weeks when most of the userbase has the OTA and the distribution process changes. Even now it may not work for someone because it’s just a game of chance.
In the end, you’re not “forcing” the OTA to your device.

Lol, flying icons is what happens when you download the myspace app. If you have themes that you downloaded off the internet, whenever you scroll down fast all your icons fly off to the side. Thats it.

the “flying icons” is when you scroll downward too fast with the trackball, and the bubbly icons literally look like they break loose from an imaginary string, then fly all over the screen…its actually pretty funny. It seems to only happen with themes that you’ve downloaded and installed yourself.

I have been doing this for two days straight with no luck. Yeahhhh! I got it! Woo! Im so happy. I came across this webpage at about 12.3o am becuz I was lookin up the sidekick2008 review and I was all ooo update? & I read the comments and it seemed so successfull! So I resetted at about 12.57am and as soon as It turned on, my 7 started goin crazy! I was gettin a lot! But at exactly 1.11am it stopped -____- I was upset but I retried and it wasn’t working so at around 2 I started gettin really tired & my battery got to 1 bar. By then my hopes fell but I kept trying even as I dozed off Id restart between awakenings. Finally at 3.3oam I gave up, well actually fell asleep and didn’t get up. So when I woke up this morning I saw my red light flashing and plugged my lx in & I saw the update message! I nearly jumped outta bed!! So now I got the updates

What do you mean motorola left out the capabilities…dude its a firmware is the same. So yea its possible for the slide to have video capabilities because it has the camera. What I don’t get is why danger didn’t do the same for the slide. It has nothing to do with slide being a motorola phone…danger made the firmware not motorola. I think we sliders got assed out. I tried this last night around 1 A.M. and it worked on the first try…it only took about 10 minutes tops.It works GREAT. I really like the new options on the browser and the video taken with my LX is ALL that bad,of course it could be better,but as long as you have a steady hand,it can actually come quite handy.

yo anonymous in cali … yeah you were prolly getting it ,.. turn off all the ims and myspace, etc,.. no email nothing,.. turn off and turn on ,.. after 3 mins check the network info, menu+m and if your climbing above 100k youre prolly good, check in 5-10 mins if not in the mb range turn off and on…. I AM UPDATING NOW!!!!! took about 50 mins total to get it in mid afternoon

hey this works but you better off trying it when the server is slow after 12am-8-am. it works and all you gotta do is just RESTART your phone over and over if your G7 doesnt swoosh like crazy and just double check your (kb) going up to (M) right away. if i doesnt do it after 3 minutes RESTART once more until you do. Mine went to 12.4M my girls went to 5.9 and downloaded the OTA rite away. Check your kb by goin to Network Statues and pressing Menu+M. n if you have a security code when turning on your phone it is best you disable it and disable anythin else like automatic sign in to aim msn etc. thats all! To check for your Bytes, press the menu button on your sidekick, go to settings, and click network status. When your on Network Status press the Menu button + M and it will take you to the other side of the network status.

I ordered an LX received it, and got the updates within an hour. It turned out to be defective so i sent it back, Received a second LX didn’t get the update and it was also defective. I sent it back. it does work 100%, I did mine like 8 AM when i was in summer school
if the 7 in the G7 starts to flicker (white line going through it) many times, go to network status click menu+m and look at your bytes recieved, if you have over 100K in 3 minutes or so you’re def. qunna qet it . Mine flew up to 1.2M in like 10 mins, and yeah the menu+O does work to boost it up . This is just what I went through when I got mines lol . OH & usually, ur bytes recieved goes up to like 6-9K when you first turn it on and stops there, if that happens turn it off and repeat the process all over again because you aren’t gunna get the update unless u get around 100k bytes recieved in about 3 minutes .

& NO i have myfaves too, it does NOT affect the process, just don’t get on AIM or don’t go sending texts/tmails basically don’t open anything up except for settings-network status-menu+m and just keep checking, if ur bytes recieved flies, you know ur getting it. it took me about 5-6 minutes after my bytes flew up to like 1.2M to get my update, and 1 minute later my 2nd update .

yes i got mine at 2.23 this mornin. i quit all email, aim, yim and didn’t go on the internet. i restarted 4 times total and the 4th time, the bites started skyrocketing (u can check this by goin to menu > network status > menu+m) and the seven thing has to keep having the whit going through it real fast. it may stop a couple times, but just wait a few secs and see if it keeps going. if not, restart again and do the same. when your bites recieved gets to about 12.2M, u will see a pop up that says update available. click it and ur phone will restart. once it restarts, u will get a second update within about 5 minutes. update again and when it restarts, all your applications will need to re download (they do this 4 free) and u can then sign on 2 everything again. u will get an email from customer care that says that you have recieved the update and to enjoy the new system. THAT”S IT!

If you want the update just buy a prepaid sim card from t-mobile & have it activated…Make sure when you call you speak to a representative to tell them its for a sidekick…

IT WORKED I WAS SO XCITED WHEN IT STARTED DOING IT OMGOSH! this def works!! its around 2am…and it really helps if you take out the memory card though..i tried over ten times and it wouldnt do it..as soon as i took the memory card the first time i tried it then the bytes started going up like crazy and in less than 5 minutes i got my first update…i just restarted my phone and now i got the updatee..finallyy

For people who are reading on their sidekicks and cannot view the video hear is what you have to do:
1.Power off your device by pressing power button or Menu>Power Off (DO NOT DO SOFT OR HARD RESETS)
2.Let device fully shut off then turn device back on by pushing the power button
3.Let the device fully cut on and watch the G7 (the white pulse should be going through the 7 at a constant rate if it stop within the first two minutes repeat the first three steps)
4.If you have a constant pulse going through the 7 the next thing to do is hit the menu key ()>Settings>Network status. While on that screen press +m.
5. You should see Bytes Received make sure that this number is going up because once it reaches 12.4M then you will get the update (Remember in order for the number to go up the white pulse has to be going through the 7)
Reminder this can take 15 to 20 mins depending on how fast the 7 is pulsating. You can allow your aim to automatically sign in to aim if you want just don’t manually sign in to anything. Good Luck!!!!

why does it feel as if im the only person without the update. Whats crazy about all this, was the first lx i got back in march. I recieved the first OTA update without any problems. So i’m going until like a few weeks ago and my phone messes up and I have to send it in for warranty. I get the new one, and its reverted back to the old old version. No email tabs. just folders. So i’ve went weeks without being able to check my email. So i called tmobile and got the sidekick department. they said I should recieve the first ota with the new one with the video.
This blows.
If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I feel like im all alone in this.

it worked for me!! thanks a lot.. for the people that still havent gotten it or are trying to get it this trick really works.. well for me at least.. it takes time though.. and you need to be patient it took me a while for it to work.. but once you notice the white swoosh constantly passing through your “7″ for 3 minutes straight check your network status right away and the numbers jump like crazy then you just wait about 20 – 30 minutes for it to reach 12.4M and yeahh after that you should get the update.. and the swoosh does go away and comes back but it doesnt mean to turn off your phone.. just give it time but if the swoosh doesnt present constantly in the begging for about 3 minutes straight reset it.. good luck and thanks a lot!!
