More Sidekick 2009 FCC Docs Leaked
Oops, looks like the FCC posted some docs they shouldn’t have! Remember those FCC docs from Option N.V. that I posted awhile back? Well it’s been confirmed that they were part of the new Sidekick. The FCC has posted some additional documents today that confirm it’s part of the Sidekick 2009. They even include some tasty illustrations of the assembly of a new Sidekick. In addition there’s also info on the chipset they’re using, Qualcomm’s MSM7200A and/or MSM7201A. These are the same chipsets that a bunch of recent phones run on including the G1, HTC Magic, and the upcoming HTC Touch Diamond2. Looks like at least hardware wise MSDanger is going to drop a phone that competes directly with the new Android devices. If you want the nitty gritty details straight from the FCC filings, here you go:
OS: Danger OS
CPU: QUALCOMM MSM7200A (MSM7201A)
Memory: 128MB SDRAM / 256MB NAND Flash
Input: QWERTY keyboard
RF: UMTS/HSDPA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE
Camera: 2M AF or 3M AF or 3M
I/F: µSD card slot x 1, microphone, speaker, Stereo headset port, USB port, A-GPS, Bluetooth
RF: UMTS/HSDPA Band I, Band IV, Band V GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
The documents posted contain the photo up top as well as the following:
There are a bunch of other computer generated images and photos of the radio for the Sidekick 2009 in the docs. You can check out the FCC filing (FCC ID NCMOCU1407), or check out the cached PDFs below:

Chanty, I think they are cheating you out cause mms IS part of the $20 unlimited plan.
I get mms just fine and I am not charged extra for any of them ever.
The mms’ are tied to the data side, danger’s servers for internet and backup.
That’s what I was told anyhow, there was a point a while back where I was not getting mms but i was getting texts just fine.
April 15th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Boogs,
I agree with you, I think there is something big that they are holding back.
Maybe with the introduction of netbsd(an open source code) we may be able to get free ringtones and apps. Keep your fingers crossed
April 15th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
thank you i was just gonna say that ever since i got my lx when it came out and had the $20 unlimited plan i got mms included with mine. i think chanty is getting screwed by t-mo if she isn’t getting it.
April 15th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
sigh. well idk. it’s not really a big deal to me cuz i don`t mms a lot. i email the pictures. but it`s the principle for why i called. the first time they said i had it but then they kept charging me. but it’s whatever.
i`m hoping it`s free apps &. ringtones. $2.50 for a 15 sec ringtone ; wtflip?
i love how my bf`s g1 he put a part of a song as his sms alert. i wanna do that !
April 15th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Chanty, your saying you have had the data plan since 2006 (Sk3) and now they are charging? Did you ever remove your data plan from your account, and then turned it back on on?
If you never shut the data plan off I would dispute it.
For anyone thinking of converting to the g1, if you get a G1 and decide to go back to the kick, you will have to pay $35 for unlimited data/messaging.
What would everybody like to see as a whopper feature?
Customization? Example: ringtones, wallpaper (real backgrounds not themes) custom sounds (like keyboard clicks)
Customizable apps on home screen?
Videochat? Like the nitendo dsi?
Internal 8 gig memory?
Built in zune mp3 player with access to an itunes type store, like raphsody or amazonmp3?
Autofocus camera??
Unlimited video record,(limited to available memory)
Infrared port? Hahahah
3rd party apps that are free like pandora, shazam, facebook, imob, craigslist etc?
Touch screen? Touchscreen keyboard yould be awesome!
Streaming tv, applications.
FM/AM radio? I would appreciate that!
Speak your mind!
April 15th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
nah i`ve had the 3 since feb 07 &. whenever someone sent me an mms it directed me to a website. but never charged me. but i went to the lx in nov 07 but never noticed. i noticed like june 08 that i was getting charged. but it would be like .30 cents cuz i rarely mms. but still. why one rep tell me i have it &. another say no?
all the details are so bangin. i would be amped if my phone did all that. the dsi is pretty dope.
April 15th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
yes it will….unless you buy it from another place…im still on the unlimited 20$plan i got 2 years ago….i was going to get the lx with the upgrade and they told me my plane would go up because i would be renewing my contract…..sucks balls
April 15th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
the free ringstones is just the start. that should have been a standard set a long time ago. they will have to do better than that if they want to “impress” me. the sidekick company is know for just throwing together a phone thats is shaped differently than the last. its not very often that we get an actual improvement. the stupid camers on the lx is the same one used on the sidekick 2!!! come on.. i want a real upgrade. free ring tomes! customizeable message tones!!, changeable wallpaper, and by god i want free apps. lol
April 15th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
What’s with the want of wallpapers?
I’ve been able to customize my wallpapers for the longest by now…
I have my car back there and several others on my sdcard I can change to when I wanna.
Been making custom “bubbles/icons/sounds” and all that other theme stuff too… I must be missing something.
April 15th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Yeah Anonymous……I think everyone meant setting your backgrounds without having to go through the hassle of making an entire theme……I’m just like everyone else. The Sidekick is a super sweet phone & if only they open it up more…that leads me to my next point. As much as I like the phone, if they don’t start opening it up more, my next available upgrade will be a different phone.
April 16th, 2009 at 6:33 am
Chanty, when you upgraded from the SK3 to the LX, they should have upgraded your data plan to the one with MMS. The SK3 data plan was $20.00 and did NOT have MMS and when the LX was released there was a new data plan to go along with it, which is $19.99 per month and DOES include MMS. On your bill which amount does it show for the Sidekick data plan, $19.99 or $20.00?
April 16th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Hence why you used it for 8 years. Pwnd.
April 16th, 2009 at 9:22 am
says sidekick unlmt $19.99. but whatev son as long as i don`t go up to $34.99 when/if i get this new sk.
&. i think this random ish is by location. i only had my sk3 for 7 months when “upgraded” to the LX. [ which is supposed to be what, 22 months to upgrade? ] maybe the guy hooked me up? my contract didnt get renewed &. it stayed $19.99. all i know is i`ma go back to the guy who got me the LX when i want the 09/blade 😀
April 16th, 2009 at 9:42 am
in 2007, (the year I got the LX,) it was still a decent phone. But now it is behind the times. This new kick will bring it up to speed.
But to pay for ringtones and for apps that should be free is dumb. Hence the reason why I’m leaving if they don’t improve it.
If you read the poll comments you will see that many many others agree with me. It may be time to move on, if danger/tmo doesn’t get a move on with the new kick!
April 16th, 2009 at 10:58 am
im with crazy on that one. i feel like i have been paying for the stupid ring tones for long enough. its stupid that we have to pay for them and virtually no one else does. i have had phones that are not nearly as useful and are way better when it somes to personalizing them. like making a background without having to nearly hack the d-a-m-n thing, or making a piece of a song i like my message tone when i get text messages. i should be able to record something with my computer using audacity and make it a message tone. something silly like “incoming text motherf*cker!!!!” lol. or whatever i want. i have done it before and sent it to my friends as a bluetooth. it was fun. but now with this kick i cant do that anymore and it stinks. it really stinks. now that i have all my friends doing it i am out the loop with the little things like that. i am the one that got them started on it and now they are the ones sending and trading the silly home made message tones and ting tones. the point im making is that i shouldnt have to be a programmer to be able to do this for free. and its not that i cant afford the ring tones. i actually can and its not that big of a deal but the fact that they are picking at me for small amounts each month for ring tones that should be free is just wrong. lol.
April 16th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Thank you for backing me up.
That alone should be a requirement!
Custom Ringtones!!!!!
Give them to us or we are done!!
April 16th, 2009 at 11:24 am
really… who wants to pay for 30secs of a song when there are other phones that let you down load them from mobile sites like myxer for free if your too lazy to just down load them?? who wants that?? i dont want to keep paying for ring tones. myxer doesnt even work on the sidekick. as a matter of fact nothing that is a mobile download works on the sidekick and its another thing that i dont like about it. its not really a “smartphone” its more like a “communication powerhouse” or a “mobile assistant” with some really really useful communication tools. it really is a “smartphone for kids” but the possibilities are endless with this thing and i want to see microdanger do better. for myown selfish pleasures. there should be 2 sidekick versions. one dumbed down version and a “professional” one, complete with wifi, a pdf viewer, a book reader, the things that a “adult” would use, like a better spreadsheet viewer/editor, a word processor. useful tools that we office junkies use everyday anyway. i work for an isp. i have my own office with a dest and sometimes im a little ashamed to pull out my sidekick when there are black berries and iphones and, g1’s and treos on the confrence table. lol. my boss has an i phone and nothing is out of the question for his “computer in the pocket” and im not saying that danger should come for that spot with a sidekick but i am saying that they can do far better for the price that we are paying. i mean geez. this is actually a rip off and i know it but i just love the stupid phone so much that i will keep putting it on the conftence table in meetings. right next to my nopepad and pen. i know people look at it like its a kids phone but its got some real potential to be so much better, and thats why i keep it around. yes the apps suck and yes i have to pay for every little thing that i download and i am aware of the fact that i cant connect to the company vpn with it to do the little things like up load a word doc. just the fact that i have use of a company vpn and know what it is prob means that i shouldnt have a sidekick in the first place. lol, but i have been a kick user before i was this person that i am and i like it. it really is my sidekick.

Gizmo,
You need to buy an ipod touch, I have one and I use an app called rdp, I can actually vpn into the remote server and access my desktop.
I also live in the corporate world, and I’m ashamed of pulling my phone out in a board meeting. Instead I use my touch on the company wifi for my outlook email, and to access my desktop from a meeting.
I have been screaming about making a pro version.
April 16th, 2009 at 11:55 am
MAYBE I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO “OUT GROW” THE SIDEKICK!! i am aware that microdanger will have plenty of business with or without me using one if their products. i can run “damn small linux” on a g1 if i hack it right. it can be done. i wont need a sidekick for anything actually. but i have a “loyality” to it because its been with me since the sk2 and i dont want to put it down, for personal reasons. microdanger has a very good product on their hands and i want to see what they will do with it.
i know that some people will want to come down on me for saying that the sidekick is a “smart phone for kids” but before you attack me for saying that, on the sidekick site, i want you to do a little online research. look at the price of a sidekick lx. you already know what it does, then go look at the latest treo and the g1 and their prices. those phones are “real smart phones” by the… i dont know…. “smart phone standard” (i guess). look at some of those other phones like the samsung instint, and the nokia nseries of phones. we are paying top dollar for a phone that doesnt even let you take a pic and make it a background?? you cant even use the songs that you have on it as ring tones?? it wont download other mobile browsers like opera?? come on!! you cant be serious. the phone is aimed at kids and we all know it. but the fact that it has the capablities to appeal to a mass market with the easy to use interface makes it a shoe in for those that like simple interfaces. its far easier to use than windows mobile and is in a position to compete with the iphone because of the user interface and it has a backend that frees up alot of space on the internal memory!!!! this is babanas. its being wasted!!!! i have some apps waiting for me on the server for me to download whenever i want. i can uninstall an app and free up space on my kick then call it back if i need it. i dont even need to keep the map on my phone if i dont use it often. i can just uninstall it and call it back if i need to take a trip of if i need to look up an address. thats the $h!+!!!! who else offers such a service?? nobody!!! but im getting off the subject here. the point im making is that there is so much more potential for a far greater phone than any other phone on the market but… what do we get?? “a smart phone for kids” instead of what it could be.
April 16th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
maybe i should just get the stupid IPtouch. i dont really want to but its looking like a better and better idea all the time. it would be nice to be able to log into my desktop and remotely work from anywhere else but my desk. even if its something as simple as writing service ticket for our clients. i can do that while im on the toilet. lmao. no need to stop working just because of bio calls. lol. but seriously, i will look into getting a cheap used ipod touch to see what its like. if i dont like it i will just give it to my fiance or one of the kids from my old hood. i always give them stuff. they look at me as “the guy that made it” for some reason. im not rich or nothing like that.
April 16th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
to: crazy
dude i get all kinds of weird looks when i pull out my kick. i dont know why i even use this thing in public. its cool when im not at work because any place im at is ok to have a side kick. but man, i wish i could some how shoy you what its like when i pull this big, clunky, almost useless thing out, at a confrence meeting. ( i havent made the board, i cant attend those meetings. kudos to ya for making it up the ladder!)
April 16th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Make sure you get the 2nd generation, it has a speaker. And better everything. I guarantee you, you’ll prolly upgrade to the iphone in a month or 2.
I just hate at&t
April 16th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Thank you Gizmo!!!!!!! That’s what I’ve been saying for the longest. If the Sidekick becomes opened source & everything, it will blow the Iphones, G1s & Blackberries out of the water…..BUT they market the Sidekicks to teenyboppers. Lol. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one. Lol.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
You can’t get youtube on edge speed. And you can’t get youtube as an ota. geez!!!
April 16th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
When this phone does come out, the prepaid thing isnt going to work the same is it?
April 16th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
ahh ! guess whattt ! i`m at t-mobile &. i asked a representative about my txts. she said she can`t open it since it`s an old plan. but w/e.
i said if i go to a g1 i go to the $35? she says yes. so i asked a silly question, “so if i go to an 08 will i go up to $35/month?” she said no you`re grandfathered in to the sidekick.
which means we most likely WON`T get increased. unless .. sigh. the 3G. i got my hopes up just now. argh ! :[.

Thanks for the input. In a perfect world I’d love the SK to run Windows of some sort. Makes it tough though, because I’m just STUCK on the sk’s keyboard, redundant command key’s and other convenient features.
