New FCC documents posted
An anonymous reader tipped us off to these new exhibits posted on the FCC site. It’s the normal FCC submissions of confidentiality request and test results submitted by Sharp (the manufacturers of the Sidekick) but definitely a Danger powered device. They’re fairly recent, posted on 09/05/2006 with testing taking place in July-August.
A quick breeze through them and it looks like this may be some sort of updated Sidekick 3. The model number is given as PV200E (the original Sidekick 3 is listed as PV200). In addition, the sticker above matches the current sticker in shape. The only difference we’ve found so far is the GSM frequencies. Instead of 850/1800/1900, this one is 900/1800/1900. Our first guess was this is the (E)uropean version of the Sidekick 3. But that begs the question, “Why file with the FCC?” Perhaps this is an updated model with the intent to release in the US as well as globally, a.k.a. the Hiptop 3. Maybe this is one of those Limited Edition Sidekick 3s? I guess we’ll find out when the confidentiality request expires on October 12th. Drop your guesses in the comments

Hey at the hiptop forum poeple sayin they got an ota that gave them video playback and shit. wats up wit that? and is this suppsoe to mean a sk3 special edition? or sumthin esle?
September 15th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Is video playback mean that it has a video camera or it can play videos from a site (youtube)?
September 16th, 2006 at 7:27 am
They weren’t talking about video playback. There is no possible way for video playback due to the retrictions and downloads of the web browser.
More than likely, they were talking about developer discussions, due to that the video would need to be compressed before anything like that could even be viewable on the SK.
And there is NO possibility of video recording.

Your info on your site is WRONG.
T-MOBILE DOES opperate on 850 [cingular does too]
The SK3 that is out now.. is 850
The one just in the FCC doc. is 900 [meaning most likey european because they use that band]
I hope that helps.
September 24th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
Could it be a possibility that it just might go to cingular?
September 24th, 2006 at 7:14 pm
No. Cingular would most likely use the 850/1800/1900 [like t-mobile]. Cingular would probably never get the hiptop. T-mobile would probably try to do everything and pay alot to stop that. lol.
This, more than likely, is european, OR maybe canadian? I believe FIDO uses 850.. but who knows.. It could be anything at this time.. Only a few more weeks till we find out! haha
