Sidekick 2008 aka Sidekick Gecco, Gekko, Aspen, whatever
So the latest rumor on the street is that this long awaited Gecco device is going to be called the “Sidekick 2008” by T-Mobile. We have to wonder if T-Mobile marketing is serious about launching a device halfway through the year it’s named for, but then again they did release the SKiD. We’ve squinted our eyes and examined the photos and haven’t been able to see anything that confirms that it will be called the Sidekick 2008. On the back of the screen where it normally says “Sidekick LX” or whatever, it just says “Sidekick”. So here’s your salt shaker, this is what we’ve heard. Probably even more exciting though are some fuzzy pictures floating around that you can see above and below. Looks like T-Mobile is prepared to help you customize the hell out of your device with Sidekick Shells.

Can someone tell me what this phone is? I know it’s the follow-up to the SKiD but this time (correct me if I’m wrong) it has the same great screen as the LX, along with a camera and bluetooth, features that originally set the ID apart from the 3. So what does it not have that the LX has?

I was wondering the exact same thing…. but i see that it doesn’t have a flash for the cam. If u look at the pic of the device with the pink, white and grey camo shell and compare the screen size to the rest of the device it looks HUGE thats if thats supposed to be the same screen as the lx.

have you noticed the four shortcut buttons on the sides are missing?? I think it might not have the same email capabilities.

i have actually played with a dummy phone at a T-mobile store and this thing is WAY TINY compared to any sidekick, and i would say this is like an extremely nice upgrade form the iD and all the buttons are still there and the keyboard is the same as the LX if anyone has question about physical features then just ask remember i played with a dummy phone.

i dont have any sidekick right now but at the end of the month im going to be buying one. Which do you recommend, the gekko/2008 or the lx?

Just exchanged my slide for the new 2008. My friends with the LX are changing over to the SK 2008. It takes nicer pictures than the SK Slide & does take video. It’s smaller than the LX & Slide, but keeps the LX’s great keyboard. Customizing your kick with the new covers is a great feature for me. It’s running for $300.00 at the Tmobile store.

I’ve had the sk2 sk3 and so far the lx and I love my sidekick it keeps me in tuch with my friends and its so easy to use and this phone isn’t just targeted around teens I’ve seen a lot of celebritys with this kick ass phone and the data plan is pretty cheap but to be honest with you the sidekick 2008 is awful it looks horrible its lcd is so small and I’ve seen this phone is person and its a little bulky yet relly small and it has almost the same keyboard as the lx but its a pretty good price judging the functions it has.

Just got the sk08, compared to the lx and sk3 I have now, I rather just sell the two and and keep the sk08, its lighter, sleek and stylish 4 any one, and its got all the great features of any other sidekick (ok its screen is a little small, and no flash, so what) I baught it for $250 and im glad I did ^^

Just got the new sidekick 08 for $100 and its just like the lx with no flash and a smaller screen but if you put the two phones together and compare, the screen isn’t really that much smaller. It has all the features the lx has with a great price. I have the lx, and my friend has the 2008, and there the same thing.
Everything is the same besides the size and camera.
Its a good phone though, more for a teenager, where the lx has a more adult, professinal look. With the 08, you can customize the skins and it has different backgrounds.
If your phone shopping, id go for the 08, its lighter and more durable.
