Sidekick 3 has arrived and is unboxed
Thanks to some quick shipping upgrade (left PA at 1am, got here around 7pm Eastern same day) I have a Sidekick 3 in my hands after all these months. Check out the obsessive compulsive unboxing photos here. What does everyone think so far?

i like it.. the screen realy isnt so bad, ill get over it. the mp3s are easily uplaoded, the mp3 player is simple. i havnt noticed a difference in the web speed yet. it seemed a little flimsy at first but once i loaded the battery in it that helped.. the trackball(for me at least) was easy! and took no time to get used to. the camera takes good looking pictures when loaded onto the computer, kinda grainy when looked at on the sk3 screen, definate difference tho. other than that there is no sign of this so called “hipcat” that i have been hearing about, i went to the downloads and saw nothing, just the same ol’ stuff from the sk2. overall i like it…nahh i love it. i just hope they do more for us to get cool ringtones, the one they got now blow…

Yea you have to sign for it, I just called in and asked some questions, if you don’t catch them, then they take it back to your local UPS facility and you have to go pick it up. Call 1-800-PICK UPS and when the machine comes up juss say agent, when it says say one of the following options or so then just say agent again then they will connect you. Then they will tell you where your local UPS facility is. I hope this helps!

Naw its just a 1 time fee, once you buy something its only that 1 time fee unless they say any different, that’s why you always read all the details before hitting the purchase button so you don’t run into any little surprises.

Yea I got mine to, pretty nice after I got rid of my sk2 cause I hated it. Well anyway, I am EXTREMELY mad at the ringtone part and I am having a great deal of problems with receiving reception with the sk3. I called up T-Mobile, and the wait time is about 3 hours, who is gonna wait that long ?

i’m starting to wonder if it was worth the $400. biggest differences for me are: way faster internet, decent camera, and the MP3 player. btw is the screen really the same as the SKII? it looks slightly improved to me, pictures appear sharper in my e-mail and while web-browsing IMO. anyway, ya’ll really think the few extra features you have compared to the SKII are worth the price?

Hey for you who have your sk3 already does it have wallpaper cuz on the features it says it does. I don’t get mine till later today i checked online but it said it was at destenation scan and when i called they said it will be hear today the only problem is that i have to work so i hop it comes in the morning so you don’t have to sign for it and one more thing did a bill come with it or do you pay that with you next phone bill coming up if you already got your new one. Hi everyone this is my first post. I have been addicted to this site for months and i just got my sidekick last night. I am having some issues so anyone out there PLEASE help with your comments ….
1) I could not get on any web pages last night. In places where my sidekick 2 worked perfectly I have no service and the connection is constantly closed. Everytime I try to go to a page the browser times out or I can only make emergency calls. That never happened b4 as often.
2) Pictures – I’m pretty clueless with the whole memory card thing, I know it hold pics & mp3’s … but I deleted almost all of my pics in my album because it said I only had 1 pic remaining.. and it still says that. I deleted almost 15 pics and I still only have space for 1 more… ????
3) Has anyone else noticed how flimsy the screen flips? B4 it was smooth and fluid, now its clunky and seems like it scrapes against the phone…am I crazy?… also my C button on the keyboard doesnt work unless i press REALLY hard ……
4) Was I crazy or did they say you could download all of the apps for free that you had b4? Please tell me if I’m wrong but there are no ringtones or apps that I had b4.. I only found 1 game… And what is up with the download catalog??? The same **** from b4?? I was expecting maybe some new things for the sidekick 3. Am i the only 1?
Any comments would be helpful. I love the way it looks – vastly improved. I have been waiting months for this phone and after spending over $300 I’m slightly concerned. Am I the only 1 with any of these issues??

i did get to mess with hers, and here is what i am pissed about:
where are all the downloads?! no aolmail, no time traveler, not nearly as many ringtones as before.

and it doesnt really feel like they made a huge change or anything.
besides adding mp3, bluetooth, IR port, faster internet, and a 1.3 megapixel camera.. which most of the phones already have
it doesnt feel like a sidekick3 but more like sidekick 2.5

I haven’t played yet much with mine… let it charge most of last night…
My biggest complaint, and I haven’t seen much talking about it yet… is the keyboard.
The SK2 keyboard being rubbery had a good feel and I would use the tips/nail of my thumbs to type on it. With the hard plastic keys, that doesn’t feel quite as right and it feels better using the pads of your thumbs, but I find that I’m pressing adjacent keys and I’m just not as quick with it.
Maybe it just takes some getting used to… We will see…

UPS made a “delivery attempt” but I went later that day and picked it up from the UPS pick up center which is open until around 9pm. it’s better than them leaving it at the door so someone could just grab it or not being able to reach you because you’re not home and then it gets returned to T-Mo (after 3 attempts). Just give UPS a call and arrange a pick up if you’re not sure.

I just set a daily event called “Wakey” in the Calendar application. That works great because I can set it to repeat on weekdays only. And I have my SKII set to alert me again every 2 minutes if I miss a message, so that will usually wake me up if the alarm doesn’t. No need to buy Time Traveler. Can’t imagine it’s different for the SK3. I’ll find out either today or Monday!

Spiff Tiff, I’m having similar problems. I think I may have scratched my SIM card putting it in. I’m scared to pull it out though and check since that may scratch it more.
Or maybe it has to “warm up”?? Who knows… my sidekick keeps timing out on sites like Defamer and Myspace which I always visited with no problems before.
I’m hoping it works itself out.

if it is taking forever to authorize it- call customer care and make sure that you have the sidekick data plan added- mine didn’t have it, and that is why it wouldnt authorize!

to make calls and what not (if u have recption.) to bypass that activation all u have to do is hit menu+L (”3 line button”)
also i have friends how have had problems reguarding battery life.. T-mobile say that if u do. u gotta charge it.. let it die.. then charge.. let die.. charge.. let die to “teach the battery to hold a charge”.. i didnt know a battery was smart enough to learn somthin.. lol

I’m about to sell my sk3 already. NEVER FKIN HAVE SERVICE !!! I couldn’t get on the internet today the WHOLE day. I call T-Mobile, and 3 hour wait, **** thatttt. Web browser sucks, can’t visit any sites. I see no1 mentioned that is feels and looks much smaller than sk2, I noticed that right away. I am REALLLY mad about the ringtones, I can’t add my own? alottof people i know are having problems.. just give it a while im sure the networks are overwhelmed with all the new changes and it should work soon.. i know that my friend had that problem yesturday but today it was fine.. also remember that it may take up to 90 mins (or more) for all of your info to be put back on your fone (everytime u turn it on)..

I am so pissed!!!! My battery is dying after like 5 hours on the new sk3. I charged it all night and still happening. I called tmobile and the guy said this is already a big issue it looked like with calls coming in. What the hell!!! Pay all this money for a phone and they never tested the batteries!!! This sucks!!

yea well TMOBILE is launchin there 3G network next year… And there supose to release a new Sidekick 3 that can use their new Network Wifi stuff.. there testing it in germany right now…. i think it’s going to be called the sidekick 3 (music + UMA (the network thing im talking about)
but it shouldnt be out till next year.. they said way back when that its coming out in sept. but thats when they said the 3 was coming out in april… so add prolly 3 months onto that.. so it might be in just intime for christmas..
but i think that that is REALLY low of them.. they should atleast make a OTA update that would let us use it.. now i think they are crossing the line of greedy.. but thats ok im gonna ask my cousin who works in the corperate office..

it was a battery disconnect… do you know how to run system diagnostics?
first go to system info. then hit menu+****+d
then u can do tests n see wat passes and what does not.. thn follow the instructions.. best thing to do is a battery disconect.. IT WILL TAKE ALL CHARGE OUT OF YOUR BATTERY SO PREPARE TO CHARGE..
it should work good after that.. if not call them n tell them that u did a hard reset, bttery disconect.. and they might either send you a new battery or new device (depending on what’s wrong)..

My battery has been recharging since 10:55 am and its 5:10 pm and the lighting bolt icon is still there and the bars are still going….it never took this long to recharge when i got the sk2 well its been like this since i got it so i dont know the battery seems fishy to me….anybody wit the same issue ? or want to say anything ?

I did the battery cover thing n it don’t do shiet and I also drained the battery after leaving the mp3 player on for couple hrs….recharged the battery over night n itz still doing the same dam thing….it won’t fully charge the battery and it dies out quick itz been like 3 hrs and I only got 78% battery life left…..imma call tmobile up later and see watz up….

Record a New Ringtone
1. From any ringtone selector, select Record New Ringtone.
2. The Stand By dialog box appears. To begin your recording select the Start Recording button or press the LEFT SHOULDER button.
3. While recording, you can CANCEL , Pause , or Stop Recording . When finished, select Stop Recording.
4. The Recorded dialog box appears. From this dialog box you can review your recording by selecting one of the transport controls: play from beginning, play, reverse fast, forward fast. You can also CANCEL the recording altogether or Re-record .
5. Once you select Save , you are prompted to name your new ringtone. Type a name in the text field, then select Save .
6. You can now select this new ringtone from any of the ringtone selectors in any of the applications. Look for your new ringtone in the Imported category.
Note: If you already have 10 ringtones in your Imported category, then you will be prompted to discard one of your existing imported ringtones.

I had the battery charged for 24 hrs after I received mah fone on friday night 10:30 pm til like saturday 10:30 pm n it was still charging….so I turned it on n the batter life was at 98% I just put it back on the charger til the next day with the fone off….prollie had it on from 11am til like 8pm when it died out….charged it from that time with the fone off til 5am and the battery was still charging….but the battery life was only at 93%…..shiet wack….right now itz at 44% I been at work all day….haven’t really used it but just on aim from time to time….and had like 3 calls that I only taslked for a minute or two….imma call tmobile up when I get home and see watz up with that….this battery thing is bs

aite i called tmobile up and they told me to send the phone bak for a new one but i kinda think it’ll b pointless if they all do the same thing or majority of them…they walked me through with the hard reset….n see wat happens….if it doesn’t fix the problem imma send the fone bak for a new one….to do a hard reset…remove ur sim card….hold the ‘R’ key on the key pad and put the battery and cover bak on….while holding the ‘R’ key….they opening screen will cycle over n over while holding the ‘R’ key…..then let go of it and remove the battery and reinsert the sim card n turn the fone bak on n see if that fix the charging problem….hopefully it fixes it….so i dont have to go through the hassle of sending it back…..shiet bs……

nope.. alot of people dont have that.. the ones that did must have slipped threw the crack….
i wonder if the ones that have it have MMS as well.. which woud be g a y if they did..

u kidding me right because i saw the online manual and was like wat the hell is this ??? i dont have MMs and recording on mines…..Wow Danger is being g*y now how u do that ?? they suppose to give it to everybody…… wow anywayz i got a defected sidekick 3 and all the Ups are closed today and they closed early yesturday dumb thing aint recharging for **** keeps saying is not done and if i take it off the charger the battery would go to 90 right away when i use it for a 1 min
