Sidekick LX 2009 Price Drop
Apparently T-Mobile is causing a bit of a stir with their Sidekick LX 2009 launch. First there is the business of all these pre-orders on “back order” status in the system. Then there’s a small group of people who got their device super early. There are also some concerns that devices won’t arrived by the advertised May 12th date, but we’ve been reassured that they will. There was also some grumblings about how the device was being advertised everywhere as carrying a $199 price tag when in truth it was $400+ for some people. At least this last concern seems to be resolved in a kind of sneaky sort of way with a price drop on the Sidekick.
For those that pre-ordered and didn’t have the option to upgrade their device, they were forced to pay over $400 for the new Sidekick. Those that were eligible for the upgrade paid $250 (and will get a $50 rebate). Now the Sidekick LX 2009 is available for $250 if you sign a 2 year contract, even if you aren’t eligible for an upgrade. The kicker is that T-Mobile is not going to change your old order for you. You’re going to have to call up and request to cancel your order and then place a new order if you want to take advantage of the $200 price drop. We’re hearing from a lot of people who have done this without significant problems. Unfortunately this means that you probably won’t get the device early, but for most of us $200 is probably more important than a few days.

Finally, it’s dropped to a price that’s more reasonable for what the phone actually does.
Compared to other handsets, it’s pretty basic and the features are not remarkable. No way was it ever worth 400+ dollars.

Called Tmo, cxled my order from the 17th… then re-ordered it online thru MyTMobile.
The man on the phone said he couldn’t adjust the price. He cancelled the order for me and said to get the $250 price I’ll have to order it only.
So, now it’s $293 instead of $485 or whatever it was.

The price is for existing customers and extending their contract,we don’t know yet till the 13th launch date for new customers.

Quick Theory, tell me what you think. Why would T-mobile allow us to by the new LX for $200(Besides the 2 year contract extention.) With needing to use an upgrade? What I believe, t-mobile is setting up their chess board. They are setting them selves up for more money income. How? By giving us the discounted phone plus 2 year extention, it allows them to come out later this year with another sidekick, at which point, people can use their upgrade on. So we spend more money on another phone after they release the new LX, and you extend your contract even longer. Or you buy it full price, which either way they set them selves up for another nice lil income to boost their company. Call me a cynical conspirisist if you want, but it sounds like a possibility to me, especially since they have done something similar before.(See original LX and 08 sidekick)

Ok, so after reading this, I called my friend who is a rep. for t-mobile and she said she got two calls concerning this price drop and there was nothing in her power she could do to either cancel the order or credit the accounts to match the $250. So just leave things the way they are. Plus, in my perspective im paying $400* for my new LX, which to me makes it more exciting but I’m sure most you guys would love the $200 discount. Unless you add another line get a family plan and maybe you can get the cost of it if you can afford it cus times are tough all around.

$44.99 unlimited data and 400 sms
$54.99 unlimited data on everything
Unless you’re using ATT that’s different and you would need an unlock code to unlock the SK.Which is going through TMO or other sources or simply buy an unlocked one anytime after May 13th.

Sigh…completely wrong. TMobile has been canceling orders for folks no problem. For all the people complaining that the phone was not worth 400 that is a falsehood. TMobile has done something nice by giving us the phone for 250 regardless of our contract. They subsidize for new contracts and renewals after 22 months.
Almost any phone is over 300 or so with no contract or fresh contract. Also aside from wifi how is the hardware not worth as much as other phones such as the G1 or iPhone? It has better resolution than both, has 3G and GPS like the other 2 has a better resolution camera than the iPhone and a flash which the iPhone doesn’t have…
I have 2 iPhones and a G1. The sidekicks have always been a pleasure to use and have TONS of great features that outshine both phones listed. Aside from lack of threading messaging on the sidekicks smokes most all devices.

That doesn’t seem likely. Remember that the LX was released along with the slide.
I think the new sidekicks are the replacements for the iD line. And the LX are the mainstream/luxury line.
So I think from now on there will be 2 sidekicks
Sidekick (2008, 2010, 2012?)
Sidekick LX (2009, 2011, 2013?)
I think tmobile is offering the discount because they want people to cancel their orders because they won’t be bale to ship the sidekicks by the date they said.

T-Mobile has already said that they will continue to produce 2 separate phone the LX line which is more “upscale” (whatever that means to them) and another line like the 08/SkiD which is alittle less advanced, more customizable (shells, etc) and less costly. The SK08 was not an upgrade if you owned an LX already. I think the only difference was the camera MP. So yes more than likely there will be another SK this yeare but definitely not of this magnitude. It will probably have some of the features this new LX will have but not all of them and will probably be cheaper.
T-Mobile doesn’t unlock sidekicks and even if you do unlock it by whatever hack code it will be rendered useless: you lose your warranty and if it gets shut down you lose all your info as T-Mobile stores everything on their network (so that means if you drop it and the battery pops out bye bye contacts, emails, messages, etc.). It’s really not worth it especially since AT&T 3G band won’t work on the phone and Sprint and Verizon don’t even use the same network at all.
It’s funny though that T-Mobile is allowing people to cancel orders because the other day I called to cancel mine after being lied to 2 different times when I pre-ordered about my games/apps/ringtones transferring. The lady gave me her word that they would and then all this bs about them not transferring and another said they could only do 10. Come to find out they can’t do any of them. So I wanted to cancel my account and the damn phone and they told me they couldn’t. After some persistance they did say they would transfer 10 for me though since it was already promised to me. The 10 doesn’t even cover the majority of my apps let alone any ringtones so now I have to pick and choose which ones I want but it’s a start. I’ll just pick the more costly ones. I know they better get my damn phone here though. I still haven’t figured out for the life of me how a pre-order gets backordered and what’s the purpose of a pre-order if I won’t get it until every other lame gets it. Proper protocol would be at the very least to manufacture as many phones as you have current sidekick users.They should go back to the way they did the SK color to SK2 upgrade where only Sidekick users got a shot at the phone first.

Well before I was able to make an order along with many others as you see on here we were geting the 2 yr extension at $419.99.I had to keep checking everyday and finally it came through for $249.99 plus the $50.00 rebate to make it $199.99.
So those who are eligable with a 2 yr extension who’s contract have ended get it for $249.99 with rebate.
Those still on contract but their 22 mo period isn’t over will pay $419.99.
Those just regular customers and want it wo the extension will pay $449.99.
These are pre-order sales before launch after launch we don’t know how much it will be for new customers.
Like I said my friends contract isn’t over until October and I told him to check and he was getting it up for $249.99,so something is not right and Im telling him get it before it’s too late,lol..
OK just got off with a TMO rep as I was told some good news and bad news..
For the regular customers who are doing the pre-orders and is eligable and extending their contracts after their 22 mos will get the $249.99 price plus the rebate.Now if you order it online for $419.99 they said you may cancel the order by calling in.They said you will receive a txt or a call saying the order was cancel(within 24 hrs) but you can still order online for the lower price.IF the first order didn’t get canceled you can receive credit and send it back.Takes up to 30 days to receive credit back to your account.
Now bad news ANYONE who orders from the 1st to the 12th we’re not guarnteed our orders by the 12th because we needed to ordered by the 30th.So we will get ours after launch date if we’re lucky maybe before except those who order later to the date.
NO ONE knows what’s the pricing will be after launch date for new and old customers.
Max from Europe,you can use the sidekick in Europe but the problem is you need to know someone from here who’s been under contract for 90 days in order to get it activated because they will not unlock the cell for you wo a contract.Unlees you go through EBAY and so on but they did say call after the launch to get more info,here’s the number-1-800-937-8997.
All the pricing above is correct but funny thing is most of you’s may still be able to get the $249,99 pricing even if your contract is not up as you pre order online.

Well I have 2 lines of my own so I have a lx and a rarz 2 I preorder my lx 09 on my reg lx account on april 16th @ 12:15 pm so for that 1 it was 481 and change so what I did wen I saw this post 2day was order another 1 on my razr 2 line for the discounted price of 296 and change and didn’t cancel so that way I will still have a 1st one plus there a 14 day buyers remorse period so wen I get the 1st 1 on the 12 I have till may 26 to send it baq and hopefully b4 then I’ll have the discounted one so this way I won’t b without a new lx 09 @ all and wen the discounted one comes just send the preordered one baq if anyone is on a family plan or just shares another line with someone and they don’t want a new phone this is what I recomend u should do if u already preordered it don’t cancel just order another 1 on the other line and then send the other 1 baq or also I checked can I upgrade again on the same account of the lx and I can for the discounted price 2 so just double check u guys if u really want 2 b 1 of the 1st ppl 2 have it

The part I said about the unlocking I posted another and the TMO rep told me the same thing you wrote.
The way this person is gonna get one is by knowing someone here in the US with a contract to TMO.
AND DAMMMMMN,they really are stupid for not letting you cancel but the TMO rep told me you can(in th same post)and go online and do the new pre-order.Not cools at all for you.
There’s no pre-paid contracts for SKLX09 and you won’t get the upgrade $249.99 price.
The only way you’ll get this pre-order pricing is being an existing contract customer.After launch you must do a 2yr contract if you’re a new customer and there’s no longer 1yr contracts.
Go to the main TMO sites which they have a forum about the new SK and all the faqs you need to know for everyone.

They must not be communicatig because there is a price drop for the online pre-order for existing customers.
Many of the existing customers winded up paying more than they should have instead of getting the sale price and it dropped after 12am yesterday.
Even those who still have longer contracts can get it and do a new contract for the sales price.

You should start 2 years from the date of the order. I am constantly ordering new phones (I got 5 lines on a family plan) and with 5 people always changing their minds… every time I’ve ordered a new phone, they say my 2 year contract starts from that date.
Last night when I cancelled my $400+ pre-order and did a new order for $250, at the bottom of the screen in smaller print it said my contract was now extended thru May 2, 2011.
I don’t have a problem with extending and re-extending my contract. I have horrible credit and TMo let me have 5 lines with no deposit. Verizon wants a $400 per line deposit PLUS the first month paid in advance. (The only other cell carriers around here are AT&T and Sprint, but I’m not interested in either of those… and we have prepaid like Boost, Virgin Mobile, TracFone, MetroPCS). So, the way I look at it, if I’m going to be with TMo a while… let them extend it all they want.
*And to get out of $200 line cancellation, transfer it to a FlexPay line, pay $30 for the cheapest plan, and let it go… Save yourself $170.

okay guys listen up i called tmobile snapped out and spoke to a manager. i had to pay 400+ cuz i wasnt eligable for the upgrade… what tmobile did was false advertisement i was told the phones been on back order since april 23, which means most likely not everybody is gonna get there phone may 12th. those who did the pre order special. i callled and i told them its unfair to us customers who had to pay 400+ and u change the price without notification that your dropping it and u cant just deduct the price differnce. meaning i had to cancel my order and reorder it loosing the pre order special.( because the reps cant do it from the comp u gotta speak to a manager) after about 20 min i got 2 a manager she deducted 175 – the differnce and insured me that im gonna get the phone by may 12 CALLL UP

Sucks they haven’t made a new family data plan and the kick won’t work on flex pay it’s on their site and on many others its not for the pre paids.

Correction on pre-paid and flex-pay,this morning I called TMO CC and tried to get answers for both and went through a few of them.
Instead of answering what I wanted to know they kept saying yes yes yes..lol..
Here’s what’s up flex-pay ppl the kick will be available for you when launch date happens whether you pay full price or not.You will need the data plans in order to use the apps and so on.
$24.99-unlimited data,online and 400 txt sms.
$34.99-unlimited data,online and txting.
Pre-paid ppl I couldn’t even get a straight answer at all but I would imagine it will cost you more for the kick.

Those of you have the Flex pay annual it’s a contract but it’s not a 2 yr contract,so no you don’t get the sale price unless they knock like $30-50 off.Until launch date you’ll know and same as flex pay monthly.
Pre paid peeps same goes for yas like the Flex plan plus you’ll be using up your minutes using all the apps unlike Flex they choose between the 2 data plans.

It didn’t even come with a camera so back then, we all had to buy a camera seprately and attach it on the b/w kick. But ever since Sidekick 2 came out, it had a camera built in. If there’s no cops nearby, then I guess my best bet is to walk up to someone nearby and tell them what have happened and that if he/she can call 911, since I can talk with my voice (2nd language) and read lips. ASL is my 1st language to learn since birth.

I think that a SKTTY or an SKVP with video phone capabilities would be awesome. You know what though Purple Communications/i711 (the company in charge of the Relay on the SK) has a portable VP called the MVP. I have one and it’s excellent. It’s tiny and you can carry it around no problem and call family and friends. You can also set up a local TTY # through i711 on your SK and in fact i think it is required now for the very purpose of 911 calls. It’s my lifeline because I am HoH- moderatly severe hearing loss in both ears. I just started wearing hearing aids though.
Off topic though I just got a sweet *** deal. T-Mobile set my contract back to it’s original cancellation date of October 24, 2009 and I still get my LX 09 for the 199 (w/rebate) price. Sweeeeeeeeet! Still no word of when we are getting our backordered pre-order but um the stores will have them on the 13th if you don’t wanna wait.

Look I want to clear the air on something. I work fo cc at t-mobile and an avid sidekick user as well. I have been reading these posts for a few days and one thing is, THIS IS NOT A PRICE DROP WITH TMOBILE ON THE PRESALE PRICE OF THE PHONE. I have asked a ton of supervisors at work and none of them know anything about this. It seems that this is some kind od computer error on our end causing the price drop. I am not just saying that, this is how it is. If you were one of the people affected by this than good for you, but I will say that the more people call and ask about this specifically, the more likely that the IT dept. Will fix the problem. The pricing is still 199 with full discount and 419 with partial discout. And prices are subject to change once the presale is over. And to answer the question about lay a way, based on your credit calling customer care to order or going to a corporate owned store can let you you the EIP program to break down the price of the phone, whether full or partial discount price into 4 payments that are added to your bill instead of one lump sum. I know that most of you won’t believe me, but that’s how it is.

Why does everybody think that cc doesn’t want to cancel your order for you. Its not something we can do immediately do. Managers, supervisors, even the president robert dotson himself can’t immediately do it. When you normally call cc to place an order they tell you that once an order is placed they can’t immediately cancel the order. Now be it on the positive side id an order is in backorder status for whatever reason you have a chance to stop the order, they have to put a request in to stop the order. It is handled by the handset research team. There is no phone number for even cc to call them. They have to do the research and see what the actual status, ie.. Where the package is, and see if they can stop it. If ups already has it how can you stop it? It can take UP TO 72 HOURS FOR COFIRMATION OF CANCELLATION, doesn’t always mean that it will take 72 hours. And bc of this glitch allowing people to get the phone cheaper than they should be able to, all the calls to cancel orders bogs down the dept and may take longer to get cancelled.

If the order is succesfully canceled you will get the confirmation and then you will never even see a charge for it. If its too late to cancel then refuse shipping on the package, when its received back it will credit your acct automatically. These credits ate handled by the same dept. That can cancel orders. Keep in mind that you do have 14 days (30 on california) to try the phone out, ie.. Buyers remorse, before you are respomsible for the charges and the contract.

Thanks guys! I am currently letting it sit for the recommended full charge cycle. Once that is done I am going to take some time and play with it and check out the differences between it and my Tony Hawk LX. I promise pictures and a video is coming soon. The ship location said it came from Virginia I believe. I discarded the box it came in. It came packed in a cardboard box with air packing (2).
More details coming soon. Its about time I feed my kids dinner and get them situated for the night.
One last note, you will be VERY happy with this device. As I mentioned above its one SHARP looking Sidekick. Others who arent SK users will disagree but if your like me and have had the SK 1, 2, 3, LX and a few limited editions in between, you will be very pleased. The “soft touch” texture on the back is awesome and so are the grooves.

You have to go to hovrs.com and sign up. It’s totally free though to get a MVP. It says you have to go through all this hoopla but I got contacted by some guy and he got one too me quickly. You may want to look into a company called Sorenson too. They give free VPs as well. Not sure if they have any portable kind though.
I have no idea because when I first called it ended in April 2011 then when I asked yesterday she said October 24,2009 and I asked her if my order was cancelled and she said no soooo. If they give me that large price on my bill though I saved my text message stating the price that was going to be charged (not including the $50 rebate of course). They’re screw up for once works in my favor though.
UPS doesn’t deliver on Saturday unless you pay extra which I doubt T-Mobile is doing. And the phone is on backorder with no expectation date of when it won’t be. Call your tmo rep and you’ll get the same answer so those FAQs as of write now don’t mean squat. That was their estimated date before the backorder thing.
Mine usually come from Georgia. Just means his didn’t come from the same warehouse and maybe other people just didn’t post that they got theirs, don’t know that they got theirs because they are at work or out or whatever the case may be. There are endless possibilities doesn’t mean he’s a liar. Infact its 7:30PM ET and UPS hasn’t even hit my apartment (as they usually come around 8PM ET) so that could also be the case.

To some it is just a device that works best for their needs. Seems that a lot of you seem to think that if you have a SK then you MUST be a follower of forums etc. Grow up kids. G’mnin SK fans,I just spoked to a TMO CC and she told me any pre-orders done should arrive to you by the 13th.When you receive a txt from them it will give you a tracking number and the date it was shipped out.Then you go to ups.com to tracking to see if it has.Until you get that you can still use your mobile number but make sure you put the dashes in between them.
So keep your fingers crossed and wait and see what happens,

Hello! So I was finally able to cancel my SKLX09 order through CC. This can be done, they have to submitt a cancellation request to the hand held research team. So now after two days I was able to reorder it for the $250. Yeah so I wont have it before the 13th. Its all good, the price was more important to me anyways.

I made a video last night and it exceeded 10 minutes (recorded 17.18). I am working on triming down the video and cutting out the unimportant parts. I didnt think to look at the video time and YouTube let me upload it all to tell me at the finish of the upload that it was rejected for being too long. Lol.

OK,anybody on here that only received a tracking number and still has no idea when they’re getting it call UPS.I called TMO first this morning and all they had was really nothing but it’s on the go.So they gave me the number to them and I just gave them a call and I’ll receive mine tommorrow.
What you do is call 1-800-742-5877 and say customer service cause it’s automated-bleh and I also pressed 0 if that helped,lol..Then they say ok but first need the tracking number and you’re sent to a CSR.Hopefully like me,they’ll have an answer for you.The other thing is make sure you or someone else is home or have a good neighbor to receive your package.My dude comes around at 2pm when he delivers here so I’m in the clear,lol..but leave a note on the door saying leave at neighbor or front office to be safe.
I hope this helps and eases your nerves,lol..I guess after working so many years in CS myself,the habit stays with me to help those in need.

UPDATE: Us New Yorkers will (or should according to UPS) have it by the 13th. When you log in to your UPS account and you save the tracking number, you will be able to see the status in the home page to the right side. there it says that the delivery date is the 13th. That should be really accurate. but for that, we could have all gone and bought the LX in the store when it came out. Stupid tmobile.
