Sidekicks Gone from T-Mobile’s Site
Has the day finally come? T-Mobile appears to have pulled all of the Sidekick models from their site except for the Sidekick LX 2009 Carbon. And even the Sidekick LX 2009 Carbon is listed as “Temporarily Out of Stock”. Is this just a hiccup on T-Mobile’s site or does this mean the end of the Sidekick?
If you’re still dying for a Sidekick, there are other places to get them.
UPDATE: Confirmed via our sources that at least the Sidekick 2008 is discontinued.
UPDATE #2: The Sidekick LX 2009 Carbon has returned to T-Mobile’s site. More info on T-Mo’s forums.
UPDATE #3: It’s official, the 2008 and the LX 09 Orchid are gone according to an official post on the T-Mobile Forums

I am personally one of the biggest Sidekick die hard fans, and I am HORRIBLY disapointed that there will no longer be a new lineof Sidekicks, I’ve had a sidekick ever since the Sidekick 1 Color edition. And I feel inlove with them. There probaly one of the most simplest phone to use once you figure everything out on how to properly operate the device. & the always on the go applications and how they arlet you so rapidly and you can see a preview of the message I find is really convinient and useful. I can’t imagine using any other phone but the Sidekick.
R.I.P SIDEKICK

From https://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/?category.id=Sidekick
Forums are: Sidekickā¢ LX 2009 and Previous Sidekickā¢ Models, the later which is described as “Get help with previous Sidekickā¢ models such as the Sidekickā¢ 2008, Sidekickā¢ II, Sidekickā¢ 3, Sidekickā¢ Slide, etc. here!”
My guess is them retiring the sidekick 2008 and someone maybe making a glitch on the phones page (unless they are going with just one modle, the carbon). This kind of makes sense given how much the price has dropped on the sidekick and given rumors of the new “pink” phones. If they sold out of stock the last couple months with the prices way down (SK 2008 was $30 on TMo’s site last time I had checked), why stock up again on a model which is likely going to be discontinued soon, anyways?
Alternatively, since it has been confirmed that Sharp is making the pink phones (or, at least, one of the models), it would make sense for them to switch over production at some point. In the past, we’ve seen this sort of behavior when new models were about to be announced (old models selling for cheap, going out of stock, etc). MS has all but said that the pink phones will be a “follow up” to the sidekick. So… It’s a foregone conclusion that the current devices are going to be going by the wayside. The only question that remains is what the new phones will be like (and before anyone worries too much about the rumors of it running windows CE 6, keep in mind that the Danger devices went from their own custom OS to the danger platform running on top of BSD- so we could see a device running who knows what but still be the “familiar” looking hiptop platform on top… Though with a touchscreen instead of the usual Jump/Menu/Cancel/Done buttons, it’ll be interesting to see how that platform evolves).

how ironic i just plugged “tony” in to see if i can reactivate him and i pull this up. i guess all the kickers are gonna have to find a new way to open their phone. anyone wanna buy a sidekick?
February 22nd, 2010 at 11:52 pm
Well, I’ve already moved on to Android, so this doesn’t effect me. It will be sad to not have the sidekick exist anymore, if this is the case, but time goes on and if the phones aren’t keeping up with the times and tech improvements then people are gonna move away from the phone. I had already decided to move away from the SK before the data disaster, but the fiasco just made me do it quicker. Ultimately for me, it came down to the lack of free apps, ringtones, and games. I got completely fed up with having to pay for wverything and the prices kept rising, and system was just too restricted, had to move on. I stuck with the sidekick for almost 5 years. The smartphone & mp3 market is about apps and games, and the sidekick is way behing in that and also in hardware specs. Apple is very closed and restricted, but they seem to bne able to misdirect that fact from the public. I’m with Android now and I like it, but this new Windows Phone 7 Series may have me with my first WinMo phone, with my next phone purchase in a year or 2

Microsoft’s phone will be a follow-up to the T-Mobile sidekick, says the Journal. Microsoft acquired Danger, the company that made the sidekick, two years ago.
Sharp will be manufacturing the phone. It is going to be heavy on social networking apps, according to the Journal. It will be available on Verizon and Vodafone, says the Journal.
^^^^^
The Sidekick Is Leaving T-Mobile,Its Not The End Of The Sidekick. Its Just Getting A New Home. I Guess That Loss Of Data That T-Mobile Did Made Sharp/Mircosoft Move The Phone To Another Carrier,Thats All. Sidekick Will Be Finding A New Home.
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:24 am
Okay, T-Mobile didn’t do that big outage, Microsoft did.
Put it in your mind T-Mobile did not fail. Microsoft Fails.
Where is this journal from anyways? From what I’ve read the phone that’s gonna be on verizon and vodaphone is not a sidekick, its the stupid little turle phone
February 23rd, 2010 at 6:53 am
Actually there are CDMA *AND* GSM versions of the Turtle/Pure phones. CDNA is Verizon/Sprint and GSM is AT&T/T-Mobile. these phones actually *could* end up with T-Mobile!!

February 26th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
I gave up my SK LX 09 on Black Friday and got a Blackberry. T-Mobile and Microsoft let me down with the outage and lack of support or willingness to do anything. I went alittle over a month without any data and I was doing fine until my phone decided to infamously self-restart and I lost everything. I had owned a SK for damn near 7yrs and never experienced a thing like it. Who could’ve predicted that when Microsoft took over they would go to hell (that was rhetorical and for humor lmao). If T-Mo knows what’s good for them they’ll not pick up another Microsoft product because they’ve been epic fails. Stick with Android or RIM or maybe one day even Apple.
February 26th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
some one should continues the sidekick name……..i really think the most important thing to everyone is the hardware. i think they should update the hardware and stick the android os in there
March 1st, 2010 at 12:43 pm
LMAO!
March 3rd, 2010 at 8:04 am
i have also had four replacement phones sent out and their still not working, its the network though, ive had new batteries and a new sim card as well as the 4 phones, its the network, i think t mobile is screwing with the sidekicks as a “secret” way of getting people to switch to something else, because they want to discontinue the line.
which sucks because i love mine, i hear the LX’s are still working, i wish i could get my hands on one for a good price though š
and im not even sure i want to upgrade and stay with tmobile for another 2 years, its horrible now.
March 4th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Fml.
Oh well, I sense a lawsuit in the future. This pink shii isn’t going to sell. Tmo is going to sue Microsoft for not creating another money-making phone which I’m sure Microsoft agreed to when getting rid of Tmos best selling phone line.
March 4th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
The sidekicks are back on T-Mobile website for sale
March 5th, 2010 at 1:07 am
I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a new phone for a while.
The Nexus One.
HTC HD2.
I actually had the Cliq for a day.
Took it back and got the LX09.
I couldn’t help it.
It felt like I abandoned a part of my life.
I’ve been with the Sidekick fam since the SK3.
Never had another phone.
I don’t know what to do. I want a new phone, I really do…
It’s just hard to let go. One day I guess…. =[
March 6th, 2010 at 8:47 pm
I spoke to costumer service and tmobile store sales people and they said the sidekick has been completely discontinued and will not be getting the phones, accessories, or shells in. Its over. I ordered my phone on the 23rd and tmobile told me i wont get it to the 17th of march. Because everything is on back order. The orders going out are the last ones.

March 6th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Same here, the sidekick will be my last phone, cause there’s no other phone I like or want.
March 7th, 2010 at 10:06 am
That’s sad…
I don’t know any other phone I want. Honestly.
I’m looking into the HD2 or the Nuron.
It’s just gonna take a long time for me, or any of us other faithful SK users to apply ourselves to a different phone.
I don’t know what were gonna do guys…
I think its time we look into a new phone….
