T-Mobile Memo on the Sidekick LX 2009 Launch
We got another internal memo from T-Mobile. Nothing too groundbreaking, but we figured it was worth posting for the sake of completeness.
Sidekick LX Pre-sale Launch
The Sidekick is going high speed with the launch of the new T-Mobile Sidekick LX on May 13 – the first 3G enabled Sidekick.
Existing T-Mobile customers will get the chance to purchase the Sidekick LX before it’s available to the general public with a pre-sale offer beginning April 17. During the pre-sale offer, existing customers can purchase the Sidekick LX on My T-Mobile at a special pre-sale price.
The sleek Sidekick LX comes with the same great features and functionality customers have grown accustomed to and includes enhancements such as 3G connectivity, GPS enabled Live Search, a 3.2 MP camera, and is the thinnest Sidekick with the largest and sharpest screen available of any other Sidekick. The Sidekick LX also features free bundled social networking applications including Facebook, My Space, and Twitter, which are optimized for the Sidekick making it easy for customers to navigate and view these sites. Customers also have access to Photobucket and You Tube, where they can easily watch You Tube videos and upload their own videos directly from the Sidekick LX. Sidekick LX customers can now talk on the phone while they surf the Web or IM friends with simultaneous voice and data capabilities.
Important: In order for customers to get the most out of their Sidekick LX, they must add the data feature. With the data feature, customers will receive unlimited nationwide text messaging, instant messaging, e-mail and Web browsing (international use is not included). Also, customers can easily download any software updates that become available for their Sidekick when they have the feature on their account. Customers without the data feature will have very limited functionality and will have a substandard Sidekick experience.
Note: The pre-sale offer is not available to FlexPay and Puerto Rico customers due to system limitations or to T-Mobile employees.
Pre-sale Pricing (April 17 – May 12)
2-year contract: $199.99 after $50 mail-in rebate
Delivery Expectations:
Customers who purchase the Sidekick LX during the pre-sale offer should receive their device by May 12 if purchased by April 30.
Orders placed between May 1 – May 12 cannot be guaranteed for delivery by the national launch date, but these customers will receive the special pre-sale pricing.
Customer Interest FormThe Sidekick LX 2009 Customer Interest Form should be used to collect contact information for customers who express interest in purchasing the Sidekick LX at launch.
Existing customers should be informed they can purchase the Sidekick LX online at My T-Mobile and will receive the special pre-sale price. Devices should not be reserved or guaranteed to customers, family members, or friends through store locations.
Action Steps
- Be aware the Sidekick LX will launch to existing customers on April 17, and all other customers on May 13.
- Refer customers to Sidekick.com for more information on the Sidekick LX or to My T-Mobile to purchase the Sidekick during the presale offer.
- Begin using the Customer Interest Form to capture details for customers who are interested in purchasing the Sidekick LX in-store at launch.
- Help right fit customers with the handsets/devices that best matches their lifestyle and needs.
- Ask probing questions to determine how they currently use or wish to use their device.
- Determine if customers currently use or are interested in high-speed Web browsing, GPS, visiting social networking sites, streaming media, instant messaging, text messaging, e-mail, and a full QWERTY keyboard to right fit them for the Sidekick LX.
- Make sure customers add the data feature when upgrading to the Sidekick LX in order for them to have unlimited nationwide text messaging, instant messaging, e-mail, Web browsing, and access to social networking sites.
- Review the Sidekick LX Pre-sale Launch article on the Retail Communication Home Page for additional details about the device.

I got my LX on craigslist so I’ve been out of my sidekick 3 contract for about 3 years now. Best decisions I’ve made. I might wait untilafter the SK comes out to pick up the new one from somebody on craigslist. Wait for the sidekick to come out and search craigslist religiously like you did hiptop3. Just got off the phone with Tmo – again – the rep talked to her supervisor and he said that I can upgrade on May 13th for $249, but without the $50 mail in rebate. They noted that nonsense on my account and say to just call back May 13th. Not exactly what I wanted to do – but I suppose $249 is better than $419 – I def dont like having to wait though.

T-Mobile will be shipping pre-sale orders on May 6th and 7th.
Orders placed before April 30th are expected to arrive by May 12th
Orders placed between May 1st and 12th should be expected within 7 business days of shipment

Hey Guys.
My family is gonna move in 3 months to Germany. I am really excited.
I want to have this phone! And they don’t sell it there. Of like 6 sidekicks they only sold one version there.
Which raises some questions:
(I know the mothercompany of T-Mobile is in Germany –> T-Mobile USA trademark of Deutsche Telekomm AG)
-Does the phone work there at all?
-Do they have plans (that would work for the sidekick)?
-Does Germany has 3G network?
-What about the 110 vs 220 volt difference?

Is it just me, or is this kinda “false advertising” to prompt us 100 times with a “get it for $199″ and then hit us with a $419 tag when you get to the phone prices screen…? Maybe in the fine print at the bottom they should posted something along the lines of “Pending contact situation” or something to that affect. I called 611 earlier today, and was told if you’re already grandfathered in to the Sidekick plan, it won’t change. So since I’ve had a Kick since the 2, I’m still in on the $20 SK Plan. And it won’t change unless I get rid of the SK Plan, from what she said. Plus, I don’t have to pay extra for all the lovely 3G stuff.
That’s one worry gone… I like my bill being 65 bucks a month. If it was 90-100, I’d of left T-Mo a while ago.
Between todays updates and the conversation I had with the rep, it basically sealed the deal for my upgrade. =D
Oh, and for people asking
If you’re already on a 2-year contract, you can’t “upgrade” til after 22 months. So figure when you bought your last phone, add 2 years, subtract 2 months. That’s when you can upgrade. Sucks, but oh well. That’s why I didn’t bite on an LX or 2008, cause I knew a 3G phone would come out eventually, and I didn’t want to be in the middle of a contract when it did.

The “upgrade” price ISN’T 199. It’s 249, with a 50 Mail in Rebate. So you’re paying 249 + tax + shipping + something else.
Total, it was like 291. Better then 420, but still.

Why is everyone having so many problems.
I bought the LX in 2007 when it came out in october, I am eligible for the full upgrade, which is $250 plus a $50 rebate.
Why are you all bitching? thats part of life, writing a letter is not going to change anything.

But what scares me is they say “free apps facebook, twitter etc”, and then they mention facebook app. SO does that mean it isn’t free youtube, technically they didnt mention it.
Also, they said you can get directions on the map application using gps, no word on turn by turn. I bet your gonna have to pay for that too.
Also, for my corporate friends, the outlook exchange is not going to work out of the box, it will be released later… I don’t know about yall, but I THINK they got something up there sleeves.
Oh well, I have the 14 day trial period.
One more thing, did you notice they said “the data plan has unlimited messaging/im/email.” Are they going to make a single data plan.

I don’t see what’s the big deal about it. I’m dissapointed that this is the 3rd or 4th kick in the last 2 or 3 years and it still doesn’t compare to the phones that are coming out or that HAVE BEEN OUT. How much money are we gonna keep pumping into these things until they are even comparable to the compettition. And to top it off 3g isn’t even available in all markets. So when you travel you get to lose 3g and go back to the old slow service. Those who already own sidekicks don’t have to change their older plans unless you want to use the 3g data.
If you’re due for a new contract yes then you re-new it but if you’re not then you’ll pay full price or what they say online,and TMO reps-I know it sucks and no longer 1 yr contracts.
All data plans are the same for g1’s,behold,memoir,etc..will use the 2 plans including the sidekick for newer customers buying it(older customers too who never had one,like me.)
With BB’s if you’re a professional and you want more data with it you’ll pay more than the 2 data plans(I can’t remember exactly but I think it’s $54.99).
$24.99 for the data + 400 sms msges
$34.99 for the data all unlimited txting,pics,online usage,im,email.
My sis has the g1 using the 2nd plan and it’s totally unlimited no worries there unless you purchase apps.
Would we be able to use Win Mo apps that are mostly for free since they support the older TMO cells(3)and own Danger?Have to wait and see in the next months or so.
Now don’t forget about the $18 upgrade charge-sucks for us but it’s for any upgrades unless you could sweet talk them,lol..
Regular price is $449.99 then to $249.99 to $199.99 with $50 rebate master/visa card-ooo,lol takes up to 8 weeks ain’t that some funny ****.

Well to my suprise my wife just ordered me the carbon lx. Awesome. She also talked to a rep and was told as long as there is an existing sidekick unlimited which I have the $19.99 one you will not have to pay more for data. And if the phone is in an area with 3g it will use it and it’s no extra charge

Someone above stated that TMobile won’t be shipping preorders until May 6th and 7th. With standard shipping I doubt it’ll get to you until the 12th. Is paying extra for shipping worth it when you can just go into the store the next day and pick it up? Am I missing something here?

Yeah, I just realized the pricing issue. I have a feeling the price will jump to $300 on May 13th. But meme I think the other SK rumors are just that, rumors. The Blade is a pretty significant upgrade and I wouldn’t expect a similar update for a while. If others will come out this year they will probably be LE’s or updates to the SKid/08 line.
Its just not in Dangers MO to release 2 significant upgrades in the same year.

First of RAUL, insurance fraud is a crime and punishable by fines and prison time. I advise you not to try and commit it nor openly post something like that on a public forum. Insurance probably has refurb original LXs on stock and ready to ship. Not to mention if your phone is stolen then you will have to pay that deductible for a refurb old LX. They always have some instock for cases like this. This is why they can replace limited edition phones if they break or get lost/stolen. If they run out they replace it with the next phone of equal or lesser value which still wouldnt be the LX 09. It would be the SK 08 for you or a lovely SK3. Either way your not going to get an LX 09 unless you upgrade or pay full price.
And Mz your stupid for admitting that you and your boyfriend do such a thing.
I just love how some feel the need to make it known that they aren’t getting the new one because they feel it’s not an upgrade. Makes me thing either A) you can’t afford it or B) you….na I’m just gonna go with A. I’m with you. I got the LX at the pre-release and skipped the 08 and had no problem getting my $199 (with MIR) price. It’s only been a year and a half which is only 18 months into a 24 month contract so i dont see why everyone else is having such problems if they purchased an LX.

After 10 days I called them up, they reversed my contract, gave me my money back and I shipped it to the address they gave me. I supplied the tracking number to them too!

and called customer care and told the lady ive been with T-Mobile since the beginnning of 07 when i got my sk3 and so she was nice and put me on hold for a VERY long time with weird classical music and she put me back on the phone with her and said she found a “loop hole” kinda thing to where she could put on the Sidekick unlimited data for 0.00$ on my account but the catch was it didnt cover unlimited texting & pic messaging so i have the 14.99 regular unlimited texting & pic messaging. So its like Having the Sidekick unlimited for not 35 and not 20 but 15(:
and then she said i was eligible for the 50$ unlimited loyalty minutes plan so i said what the hell and i got it
so now my bill is 50+15= 65$! compared to 75$ so i got a real hook up(:

Thanks for the responses in re texts. It’s not that it’s a “problem” Rey, as clearly we can hit the delete button to keep it under the max, but 100/30 text limits is way outdated at this point in time, and the so-called LX 2009 is about 3 years behind on this feature now, as it’s kept these miniscule limits on the last three phone updates, if I’m recalling correctly. T-Mo wants to be cutting edge, well then it needs to update its phones to be cutting edge, and get us either unlimited texting, including on the darn SIM cards (30 texts is REDICULOUS!), or at least some serious amount like 500-1000 on the device and 250 on the SIM card. And to answer anyone’s question as to why not just delete, the answer (and you all knew this before I wrote it) is that I like to keep certain texts from certain people. It’s like photographs, in a way. In this day and age, we enjoy seeing certain texts and emails from people, and prefer to keep them rather than have to select which texts I have to get rid of due to the SEVERELY limited space T-MO provides. Why they don’t update this feature is beyond me.

When the cashier asks her for the money to pay for groceries she uses f@cking food stamps to pay for it. I was f$cking pissed.
Here I am worrying if I have the $150 bucks to pay for my families food. This ***** is wasting her money on a sidekick and gold and flashy clothes and sneakers.
And I am always seeing this type of ****. Most of you guys don’t understand because your probably of working and supporting yourselves, by. Someday you will. And you gonna say , damn , that guy had a point.

I have been a T-mobile Business Customer and Sidekick user since the

as it launched. For some reason the new pre-sale is not available to

Here are some FACTS And QUESTIONS in Regards to the LX 09.
1. For those of you who assume web browsing in the lx 09 IS supported by flash think again. According to hiptop 3 forums, it’s explicitly stated that the web browsing for the LX09 is NOT SUPPORTED BY FLASH. Here is the link: http://www.hiptop3.com/archives/category/sidekick-2009/

If you already have a kick with the data plan you don’t have to worry bout anything. You will get 3g service at no extra charge.
If you are returning to sidekick or are new to sidekick you will have to get a data plan with the purchase of your new kick. The unlimited data plans goes for $34.99 now. Used to be only $19.99.
