Update on SKLX09: Custom Shells!! Laser Etching!!!
According to this recent CNET Review, the Sidekick LX 2009 will have Custom Shells after all (available in the summer). Also Custom “Laser etching” will be available:
“The smartphone is available in two colors: carbon or orchid. However, if you’re not a fan of the colors, you will be able to create custom shells for the Sidekick LX, much like the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008, and T-Mobile’s even added the option of laser etching the case. Custom shells will be available starting this summer. “

but now since it gives you the option to change the shell, then that makes the device somewhat better….i may have to pick this up.

Wow, I’m actually quite excited about that. It was fun being able to put my own artwork onto my sidekick [short of painting it and possibly voiding my warranty]. I actually really enjoyed that feature in the 08. I’m glad its coming to the LX09.

That’s pretty cool because like the original LX both stock colors are wack. I don’t get house there gonna do is though. Is there gonna be a different phone put out over the summer to allow the shells or are the ones people are buying now gonna be able to do it too??

let’s say i upgrade online right now with the 2yr contract extension and get the new sidekick for the $250 price. i use a blackberry curve right now. when i get the sidekick, is it possible for me to continue using my curve for my regular plan and use the sidekick as prepaid instead? it’d be as if i bought the sidekick for the $400+ price w/o contract extension.

You be better off putting it on your plan,getting the family plan especially if you’re long time customer.Ask them if the loyalty plan is still available because it’s unlimted on everything and then get the extra data plan for the kick.Just an sugestion because if something happens to the kick or the berry you’ll be covered under the xtra warranty.

This is a really nice thing for the SidekickLX’09, I saw this coming for the SidekickLX’09 since the back seemed pretty similar to that of the Sidekick’08 in the images that were posted, it’s just shaped differently and I like the idea of changing the shell rather than keeping it to a color that you don’t like. This is a huge plus for me when I get to have my own LX’09 someday.

I heard yes and I’ve heard no or actually read on sites,right I’m gonna say no for now despite what CNET is saying.We won’t know until launch day.I’d like to see an opened protective case protecting the outter face and something to protect the screen from getting damage.
Problem is it’s swivel,like a zipper,something that you can turn it.People want a case to protect it plus it’s smaller now to put it sideways or horizontal on belts whatever.That’s just me thinking cause that’s what I do,lol..

From what I’ve read : on the sklx09 faq’s from t-mob directly it says that under the question of “shells” all it states is that laser etching will be available later this summer. Also, the link to the girl with a “shell” has a caption underneath it, and it specifically states that it is her ” Sidekick LX tokidoki skin”. So, I’m gathering that there will be laser etching, and skins, but no shells.

I saw this Sidekick in person, and I loved the look of it, my father is already thinking about buying me this one because it has hearing aid support, it has the M3 on it for hearing aids, mine is M4 which is good. Since I need a back up sidekick, and the guy said that I would be able to get this for $150, so that would mean a double upgrade since I just upgraded last month on my birthday.

To Bebe: Oh lol, right now I just miss my Sidekick 3, I gave it to my Stepmom to borrow due to the fact that her RAZR crapped out on her, it’s old and now it doesn’t want to turn on. I miss it for the fact that it has no hissing on calls and I could hear when the call drops or someone hangs up, they lowered that sound too much on the ‘08 oh well I will get used to that as time flies. But that’s good to know about the MP3’s, I am alittle disappointed that the mp3’s sound too soft through the earphones, on the Sidekick 3 they were louder through the earphones, but through the speaker, the ‘08 is louder than the 3. I can’t wait to get the LX’09. How does the keyboard feel for you on that sidekick? Are the keys like the ‘08 and original LX’07 or do they feel a bit like the Sidekick 3?

I was playing salsa on mine without phones,speaking I forgot we can listen to Winamp/Shoutcast radio on it.Windows uses Pandora music on their blog sites last I knew and that would be great to listen too also.
This is my first kick but I do like how it fits in my hands,and I’ll get use the keys,I like everything about it except the use of my own pics and songs for ringers(the site I was using won’t accept me for some reason).
A TMO rep was telling me hopefully I’ll or someone else will find a way around it or updates will change that since it’s still early.I’d like to make my own themes don’t want anyone else’s jusy need a boost to get going.
I like the other goodies you can do with it better than what I’ve owned in the past.I killed off the extra stuff that can drain te battery and short,longer here and there.

To Bebe: I played with an LX’09 today, it wasn’t a fake one that they have at the stands at the store it was a real one, the representative pulled it out from under the desk but it was turned off, I flipped the screen and I was like “…wow…the keyboard here looks better than the ‘08 and it even feels better” the screen does feel alittle harder to open, it reminded me of my Sidekick 2 which is a bit harder to open and that’s good because the ‘08 opens too easily, more easy than the Sidekick 3. I like the carbon one
my dad is already seriously thinking about getting it for me because I told him more news about it and for the fact that it has hearing aid support, my only fear of having it now is the fact that I would have 2 sidekicks under warranty and I wouldn’t know which one to use more since they would both be under warranty at the same time, only a month different. My dad goes “they’re the same size” lol!! I told him “the LX’09 and the ‘08 are NOT the same size, the ‘08 is smaller, the screen is smaller, didn’t you see how big the screen was on that LX’09??” plus the weight of the LX’09 felt just about right for me, it reminded me of my Sidekick 3, same exact weight in my hands, only it’s bigger but its a perfect size, better looking than the LX’07 and I think you would agree too.

Mr Gray,we can only watch videos from You Tube and no where else because there’s no Flash supported but for that.Maybe possible in the future if MS decides to add Windows Mobile to it but for right now that’s it.
You can upload videos to My Space with videos,delete all those apps if you don’t have no use for the social network but if one day you decide to,you’ll have to re buy them again.
