Video Hands On with the Sidekick LX 2009
Last night T-Mobile threw a party to celebrate the Sidekick LX 2009. Our invitation must have been lost in the mail on the way to San Francisco, but EngadgetMobile was there. They filmed this video playing with the Sidekick LX 2009:
According to the rep for T-Mobile:
- Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter are built in automatically downloaded and installed. Technically they’re actually catalog apps so you can uninstall them if you don’t want them later though.
- YouTube video streaming looks smooth
- You can capture any length of video, but MMS is limited to 30 seconds

The reason why I think the people who are signing up for a new contract get the phone for so cheap is because they will be paying a lot more for data. Now remember, the people who have to pay 400+ are grandfathered, so that’s a big difference.
Just my thoughts on that.
And, I want this phone so bad.

I am concerned with the web browser on this new sidekick. It does a lot but the web browser is what’s going to really sell the phone. The full-size layout on the LX isn’t that great and annoying to maneuver when trying to read an online article… so I just use the single column layout. How does the new browser compared to the LX 07 is what I am wondering I guess. Appletech.. can you please tell us?

WOW! looks good, just hoping that this new sidekick doesn’t cost too much because I really don’t want to add 2 more years to my contract in order to get this phone. Seriously, I don’t believe that companys should force us to add two more years because it’s not like there NEVER going to be another new sidekick. T-mobile should seriously just give it’s loyal customers the discount and just give the new customers a better one.

Where was my invitation? Sounds like they are having fun in the background… do you hear the music?? I can imagine all of the things they were doing there that I would have recorded with one of those lx09’s being that the recording time is only limited to the memory card.
So basically if i have a 16 gig memory card, i would be recording until i pass out, then someone would be end up recording me while i sleep, and would put make up on my face and put it on youtube… lmao. I will fix them up real nice when i wake up, they are going to have to put back on their make up after i am done with them.
So anyhoo…
I am already thinking are they going to make replacement parts (shells) for the lx09.
Are they only going to be limited to AIM, YAHOO, MSN LIVE Clients..
It would be nice if they had GMAIL chat or MYSPACE IM.

There’s no Flash. youtube videos are not played in a flash window in the browser, but rather the stream url is sent to the Media Player and the video plays there.

Yeah I don’t mean to sounds cynical but I’m not sure if I am going to buy this or wait for it to come out on Craigslist. But whether or not I buy it I hope that apps like facebook and twitter are available in the app store to the LX users. Hey, I’ll even pay 1.99 for a twitter app..as long as there aren’t reoccuring fees. Same goes for facebook.

i dont understand why people are upset about the price, remember back in the day when the RAZR came out and it was $500 and everyone and their momma wanted one, and now its free when u get a line with anyone.
$500 is a reasonable price, thats the average cost of a phone check any website, they just add discounts as well as a MIR and it gives the illusion of being cheaper. it has the exact same features of the G1 minus the touch screen, but if touch screen is the standard now then ive had it since i was 12 when my dad had a PDA that was touch. i dont think touch is the standard i think screen resolution and camera pixels, also user friendly and SHORTCUTS!
Which is the best thing about the kick press three buttons and ur got there not like on the G1 where u have to run around to find the player, the web, bluetooth basically everything u have to press 600 thousand different buttons to get to. also people tend to forget that with open OS u have a higher chance of the app you download to mess up your phone. like on my friends G1 he downloaded an app to help him send mass texts (WTF?) and every time he does something a fail message comes up about how Android crashed. Also with the iPhone i downloaded alot of apps and they crash my phone, every time i have to restart my phone to get it to work, its ridiculous!
POINT IS DON’T BE HATEN IF YOU CANT GET IT NOW; WAIT UNTIL THE PRICE DROPS LIKE ALL NEW PHONES DO.

This videos is all well and good but I think what is on most peoples minds. is the sidekick/hiptop “blade” 2009 deffenetly coming to australia? 2 BIG questions for me:
1- Does the camera application have a self- timer? (ie. Samsung Behold)
2- Does the the Face Book application allow you upload cel-pics to your personal Face Book page? Last time I checked, FB did not support mobile camera uploads. I am hoping this feature is now built in because of the new SK model.

I absolutely cannot wait to get my phone. I just ordered it yesterday and didn’t get a confirmation # ( I don’t think) and no Email Confirmation or nothing. A little disturbing. I can’t even check the status of the order.
The last time I had one was in like 2006 and I MISS it.
I have never missed a phone out of the 4,000 that I’ve had.
I’m glad they added the myspace, Twitter and Facebook apps!
