We have held the sidekick 3
Yours truly was able to encounter a Sidekick 3 in the wild yesterday. The owner actually knew of hiptop3.com and was kind enough to let us play with the device after we wiped off the drool. There are no pictures because they were under NDA for another week. I got about 10 minutes to mess around with it. Some things that were noticed:
- The trackball is weird at first, feels real flimsy, but you get used to it
- Jump menus have sub items that have a pretty cool transition when rolling the ball to the right
- The MP3 player is called Music Player, and can play MP3s out of the speaker on the back of the device, not sure if it will play over bluetooth headsets
- The corner buttons (Jump, Back, etc) are smaller and take some getting used to
- HipCat was an available ringtone in the catalog, but there were no signs of the rumoured “Hiptunes” or any sort of song download option
- We didn’t have a ruler, but holding it up to the Sidekick II it seemed to be about the same size. No significant change

i went to the tmobile to store to ask the dude about the sidekick 3 (knowing that he wasnt’ going to give me any information that i didnt already know), but i figured i would ask him when it was coming out. and of course he said he didnt know for sure, but he said that the SK3 wasnt going to be insured…he said because the sidekick 2 broke to easy…now i really doubt this is true..but i figured i ask if anyone else heard anything like that?

Ya Boy B: Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s illegal for them not to provide insurance. Either way, money is made off of insurance purchases. That is why the seller of the device (whether the device be a cell phone or ipod or almost any expensive high tech device) always asks you to purchase it. Yes, there were many problems with the SK 2 but there were also probably people who owned insurance who never had to use it, which equates to a considerable profit. Basically what I’m saying is no I haven’t heard of this and I’m willing to bet it will never happen.
But since everyone has a story here is mine. I was at the mall yesterday and stopped by a T-Mobile authorised dealer “kiosk”. I spoke to a man who was the owner of the “kiosk” and said “when the SK3 comes out will you sell it?” he said in all honesty “yes”. I then asked “when will you be selling it?” and he again said in all honesty “August”. When I told him that I heard it will be out in July he said “I don’t know about T-Mobile or any other stores but I will be selling it in August”. Now, obviously the SK3 can be out beofre OR after August but the point was as far as he was concearned he was selling it in 2 months.

It is NOT photoshopped. That is well known hip hop producer JustBlaze. The picture was taken from his real MySpace page. He has no reason to make a fake picture. Also you can notice that his finger makes a shadow on the device. I’m no photoshop expert but I don’t think that can be done with photoshop. Also, in the picture the device is backwards. The trackball is on our left and the D-pad is on our right. Also all of the letters/buttons are revearsed. This is due to a standard “mirror” web-cam setting. The link that zman posted is from the sidekick3.blogspot website but the pic and MySpace link were originally posted on the HipTop forums way before the Blogspot got it. So in the original post the Admin claims to have handled a SK3. Ive noticed 2 curious things.
1) They claim music comes from “the speaker on the back of the device”. I’d love to know how there is a speaker in the back of the device since the back of the device comes off.
2) Originally they claimed that “There are no pictures because they were under NDA for 10 days.” Now the 10 days has turned into “a week”. My question is, why? What happens after that week? Will the device be launched to the public?

Sorry but that pictures fake if you look you can see that everythings flipped in the wrong direction the teackball is on the wrong side and so is the other buttons. If you don’t understand flip up ur sk then hold upside down but imagine the screen being on the bottom instead of the top. Its photoshopped

kory….. man im with you…. my sk2 is so freakin busted right now it’s a damn shame: the screen is so scratched it reminds me of being drunk when tryin to look at anything, the keypad is being held on with tape (no joking!), i gotta use the speakerphone at all times when making calls, the camera has been broke since like 2005 and one time i swore i smelled smoke coming from it. the fact that it hasn’t blown up in my face is short of a miracle lol

Just giving y’all a quick heads up…
So I thought I was going to be clever and call customer service and ask them for some info into the sk3 and tell them that I knew that the launch party is tomorrow…well…they never denied the party which is good because dj am would definately lose credibility since the party is scheduled on his nyspace account. And they also said that if I called back tomorrow that they may be able to release some information (which is just a lot of locked lipped mumbo jumbo which translates into call tomorrow and we’ll be able to tell y’all all about it). So I’m going to be calling at exactly midnight tonight so I can be the first to know

i think what you all are looking at is the shadow of the inlayed screen and the plastic cover that comes with all of the Sidekick phones, where “T-Mobile” is. The phone is just simply off.
Take another look, something is covering the light from hitting the top of the phone, and the light hits under it making the depth of the device visible.

the owner requested they remain unidentified, so we can’t tell you, sorry.
the music seemed to be coming from the back. I couldn’t hear it well until I lifted it and put the back to my ear. In all honesty it was dark and on a beach. The next morning we wondered about the location of the speaker as we had forgotten to check. sorry!
they were under NDA “for about a week or so” was what we were told. as you can see this was because the device wasn’t officially launched until today.
