We got an email from a reader that simply says:

Subject: Sidekick Launch party is at Plumm club in New York

Sidekick II is officially discontinued

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Gizmodo is reporting that the Sidekick II has been officially discontinued. Their source, a third party dealer named A.J. who sent in the following message:

I’m a third party dealer for T-Mobile, and after calling up today to place the weekly order for phones, I was informed that the Sidekick II has officially been discontinued by T-Mobile. They are stating a mid-June launch for the Sidekick III, and if anyone wants a Sidekick II they’ll have to hurry up and try and pick one up on the cheap before inventory dries up, as they can no longer be ordered from the carrier.

Promo material for Sidekick II pulled

Monday, May 8th, 2006

An observant s4xton has noticed that the TMobile page for Dealer promo material is mysteriously missing any Sidekick II content. The combination of this and the multiple reports of dealers not having any Sidekick IIs to sell hopefully means what we think it means.

Sidekick 3 not limited to T-Mobile?

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Josh writes: I was at cingular today and one of the sales people told me that they believe the Sidekick 3 will be available for cingular! The rep went on to say this is due to the fact that the sk 3 will support EDGE technology and t-mobile as we all know, doesn’t support that. Also this speculation would have an interesting correlation with the sidekick roadmap, since they’re unveiling all these different types of sk 3s. Perhaps one is for cingular and another is for tmo! Besides, I know in Los Angeles where I live, when I first turn on my sidekick, the cingular logo shows up. Perhaps tmo and cingular have some sort of contract going on…

Ed Note:
Anyone that has traveled out of Tmobile coverage and gotten bounced to Cingular knows that the Sidekick 2 works perfectly fine with Cingular coverage. Before the comments flood, Tmobile does support EDGE right now, so that point is at least moot. I don’t know the deal with T-Mobile, but I would think Danger would be limiting their possible revenues by only sticking on one carrier.

Thanks to linuxgold, we have another picture to bring to you guys. It looks like maybe something out of an ad, or some sort of marketing. No clue where it came from, if it’s legit, or what. But as with all rumours, we’ll post it! hehe
