MySpace App hits the catalog

MySpace on the Sidekick

T-Mobile is finally pushing the MySpace app out to users. So far it looks like it’s free and only available to Sidekick iD users. The Sidekick Slide and the Sidekick LX will have the application pre-installed. MySpace is the #1 web page for Sidekick users, so it’s no surprise that they developed an app, probably to help cut down on their bandwidth costs! Here’s a list of the features:

Push messages and notifications – New messages or notifications from MySpace are “pushed” to the device like your @tmail.com email. Instant notification when that spam account wants to add you as a friend.

Persistent login – Using the application keeps you logged in all the time so you don’t have to keep re-entering your login and password.

Profile editing – You can edit your profile through the browser.

Faster content loading – Danger is optimizing the content on MySpace so it loads less data, resulting in quicker load times.

Optimized organization – Tabs are used for quicker access to different sections of MySpace.

Quick view of new account activity – Easily check all new account activity from the Jump screen.

Upload and Download Photos – Upload photos taken with your Sidekick camera directly to MySpace through the application.

Personalized Signature – Tack on a customized signature to your messages to let them know you’re using a Sidekick.

FCC Docs for the Sidekick Zante / Slide

Danger Zante
Sidekick Slide

FCC Docs for the Sidekick Slide have finally hit the FCC site today (FCC ID: IHDT56HE1). What’s surprising though is that the user manual has been posted as well as external and internal photos of the device. Normally a confidentiality request is submitted to hold this info under wraps until close to release date. It looks like Motorola skipped on this part, so it means the device is coming out soon. This also means that the device will be released in the states, most likely on October 16th at that T-Mobile Release Party. For those interested in the FCC docs, we’ve mirrored copies here so you don’t have to trudge through the FCC site. They’re all in PDF format though.

T-Mobile buys Suncom

T-Mobile
Suncom

Looks like T-Mobile is expanding their share of the US market with a recent acquisition of Suncom. Suncom was one of the very few non-TMo Sidekick carriers. They’ve been assimilated and the best part? It only cost T-Mobile $1.6 billion.

Sidekick Slide in October

T-Mobile Sidekick Slide Release Date UK

If T-Mobile says it, it’s pretty much official. The Sidekick Slide (aka the Sidekick Zante) is coming in October, at least to the UK. On T-Mobile UK’s Coming Soon page they have a listing for the Sidekick Slide with “Expected October” listed (along with a confirmation of a 1.3megapixel camera). We find it pretty odd that the UK would get a Sidekick model before the US based on the history of the devices being released. In the past a device has always launched in the US and then trickled out to other markets. Perhaps this is a change in things and T-Mobile is trying out the Slide in the UK market before releasing it in the US. This would definitely explain the lack of FCC documents so far. It looks like maybe the US will be getting the Sidekick LX while others will be getting the Sidekick Slide, at least for the time being.

Thanks Luca

UPDATE: Looks like T-Mobile has pulled the listing from the Coming Soon page….

Sidekick LX/Sidekick Slide Release Party

DJ AM

Some of those MySpace kids who keep a close eye on things have noticed that DJ AM has a “Private” event with T-Mobile on October 16th listed in his MySpace profile. DJ AM has played previous Sidekick release parties, including the Sidekick II and 3. There’s no information on whether this is for the Sidekick Slide or the Sidekick LX (or both) yet. Our first guess is that it’s for the Sidekick Slide. Our second guess is that it’s for both devices, and our third guess is that it’s for the Sidekick LX. The Sidekick Slide has been out and about being tested longer than the Sidekick LX, but who knows what decisions T-Mobile is making behind closed doors. Regardless, be on the lookout for at least one of the new devices in mid-October.

Hiptop.com is dying

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

We (along with several others I’m sure) just got word that the hiptop.com forums are on their way out. A new site is ready to take their place, PoweredByDanger.com. Hiptop.com is going to stay alive, but Danger says it will probably be phased out by the end of 2007, only 3 more months to go. The hiptop.com forums are mirrored in a read-only fashion on the new site, and the accounts of the top posters (about 50 or so) were migrated. Everyone else will have to create a new account. Sorry guys, guess Danger rewards those that are active. 🙂 For anyone (all 10 of you) that had a hiplog on hiptop.com, your blog won’t be migrated over and you’ll have to start a new one on the new site.

Hahah just kidding, it’s not for sale any longer. Nic pointed out a listing on craigslist (now pulled by the poster) for a person trying to sell a Sidekick LX. The photos above were from the seller. Here’s the text of what he wrote in the craigslist posting:

SIDEKICK 4…NO JOKE
Date: 2007-09-03, 9:19AM PDT

Thats right. This is for the sidekick 4…aka sidekick LX. It is so sweet, works perfectly and is set to come out in October this year. The reason i am selling it is because i have a sidekick 3 LRG that I love…i have no need for the 4. this phone is not on the market so i dont know where to price this. you tell me..mke me an offer I cant refuse! and hurry too!
(phone number)

(bad quality of pics i know..i took them with a razr..go figure)
Sidekick LX

Chances are this device is worthless and Danger will never allow it on the network again, but at least it’s a picture that proves that someone out there has a Sidekick LX, and it exists (like we’ve been saying all along).
