For what it’s worth, Annmarie found this eBay auction for a Sidekick 3 Presale. Buyer beware.

TMobile Executives have Sidekick 3s

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

We received an email from someone that we haven’t heard from before with the following:

Hello, I have some news for you.. although it’s not very credible, and I have no proof. Last night I was coming back from Providence to New York on American Airlines – I saw an older man (dressing quite formal I must say, suite and everything) and as we were both getting on the shuttle to JFK parking, I noticed he had a blackish sidekick… okay, at this point I’m thinking it’s just a Mister Cartoon version, but It was defiantly an SK3… I think, it looked smaller, and it was black AND silver, and definatley had a nub, or turnwheel or whatever it is :), anyways, when I asked “excuse me, what is that?” He said “it’s the future of handhelds”, smiled and got off the shuttle. I have no evidence or pictures, but hopefully this will help your
search.

We did a bit of investigation and from a reliable source found that the TMobile executives actually have Sidekick 3 devices in hand, and that it may also be making rounds at call centers. If there is any validity to this claim (no offense meant Joanna), then the description of the man with the handheld from the future could very well have been a TMobile executive. The answer given certainly sounds like some good marketing speak.

Faking the news

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Ok, we know we’re not the only site out there reporting on the Sidekick 3 rumors. but at least we’re not making up news…
Sidekick3.blogspot.com has been posting various made-up stories, only to get pwned on each one. The best being a fake ebay listing for a Sidekick 3 from AOL member RWiLL40158.

We especially like how he has ” MS Paint” open with a doc called “ebay” in the screenshots. As if this didn’t need further debunking:
– Ebay user: hiptopdeals808 nor the auction # exist at ebay.com or ebay.ca.
Check out this auction Same price, same item location, same member join date, and same auction end time. Can you say photoshop source?
– The auction image shows the URL “ebay.com” but the cancelled page shows “Ebay.ca” logo.
– Notice the Auction Item info in the Title Bar on the auction page?

Edit: Updated the auction link, sorry, mis-pasted.

Sidekick 3 on the FCC!

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

It’s official, at least as far as the FCC is concerned. The filings for the Sidekick III showed up on the FCC’s website. We’re not sure why they didn’t document the feline behavior modification chip, but we’re sure that’s still being kept under wraps. It’s going to blow the market open for pet control like no other device we’ve seen. The previous pics were legit (to some extent) and we now have the newest pics for your viewing pleasure. Some of the rumours that are confirmed: Bluetooth (for all you lexus drivers), miniSD for expandable memory, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Many are assuming the miniSD is meant for expansion for multimedia playback, meaning video and MP3. This hasn’t been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for the exact details. At this point we can only guess at some of the software features based on the capabilities of the hardware. Still no release date though, but we assume it can’t be far off if this information is now public.

Sidekick 3 in a music video??

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

We got word of the following Paul Wall video and the sighting of a phone that looks like a sidekick, not quite a sidekick II, and quite possibly a sidekick III. Look for it around the 3:36 mark. We won’t pass any judgement yet. For all we know it could just be a prop phone. But we thought we’d at least present it to the masses and see what everyone thinks. So far some are saying it’s just a Mr Cartoon sidekick 2, others are saying the size of it is off.

Here’s the video:

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

April is almost on us here, and still no news. With all the people that said the cat remote was going to hit the streets in April, it will be interesting to see if it actually does! Shall we start guessing the actual date it hit’s the market? I’m thinking June 26th. hehe

Danger registers for both Electronics and Audio booth?

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Today marked the first day of the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, which runs till Feb 16th. Danger has two booths registered there, and it is rumoured that one is in the Audio section of the congress. Could this be the announcement of the Sidekick III? (They don’t seem to have a section for “Pet Control” so it’s hard to tell)

In addition to the exhibition, there is the GSM Association Awards on Feb 14th with categories such as

  • Mobile Innovation Award
  • Best Mobile Messaging Service
  • Best GSM Handset or Device
  • Best Broadcast Commercial
  • We can’t tell if Danger is in the running or not, but we will definitely keep an ear out to see if they win anything. Anyone out in Barcelona this week?

-thanks to “p” for the heads up-

    Update:
    Some Guy Says:
    February 13th, 2006 at 1:17 pm

I hate to burst everyone’s bubble but the “rumor” that they have an “electronics” booth and an “audio/visual” booth comes from some guy who looked at the list of exhibitors for the 3gsm world conference and say the prefaced letter for the two booths Danger has. E and AV. E doesn’t mean electronics. Inside the buildings they are ordered into arbitrary sections A, B, C, D, E, F, etc. AV doesn’t mean Audio/Video, it just means the booth is along the Avenue (The AV is given for all booths along the Avenue. For more info, look at the actual floorplans at the 3gsm world conference site.

As to the question, “Why would Danger be there if not to show off another device?” I can think of one good reason- there is no better place to make contacts and try and woo new carriers (particurally European carriers).
