We’ve been saying it for months and months, but now we’ve actually got some picture proof for you guys. Yes, the Sidekick LX is getting video, as evidenced by the screenshots above. We’re still trying to figure out details on what exactly the Sidekick will support as far as video is concerned. But yes, you will be able to capture and playback video on the Sidekick LX. I’m sure the question on everyone’s mind is “Will I be able to watch YouTube videos?” and as of now we don’t have a firm answer yet. Rumor has it that the H.264 codec will be supported, and YouTube started encoding videos in H.264 for Apple awhile back. So there may be some sort of workaround, but as far as a dedicated YouTube app for the Sidekick LX, we haven’t heard anything yet. We’ve also heard that it might be H.263 instead of H.264. We’ll let you know as soon as we nail it down so you can start converting your videos to be ready.
But for all you Sidekick LX users, look for an OTA coming very soon. And if you’ve been holding off on getting a Sidekick LX because of the lack of video support, it’s time to spend that money you’ve been saving. There was also a recent price drop in the device yesterday, so take advantage of that.
An anonymous tipster sent us a copy of this video to show what the Sidekick LX is capable of. Whether or not this will ever see the catalog is unknown as I’m sure it would take some lawyers and licensing. But regardless it’s a great example of what the Sidekick LX actually is capable of in the gaming arena.
Looks like the Motorola booth had a red Sidekick Slide on display this year at CTIA 2008. No word yet on when it will hit market (if it even will). I know a lot of people quoted the purple color as being a reason they steered away from the Slide. In my personal opinion the red looks sexy, and I’d totally rock
it. Click here for the full video of the tour of the Motorola booth.
T-Mobile hardly has to advertise for the Sidekick since the community does it for them. But for some reason they insist on throwing some money to some advertising people to make up commercials that mostly suck.
Here’s the latest one for the Sidekick LX (Sorry for the quality, it’s the only copy I was able to find online):
The one for the Sidekick iD was a little better:
The all time favorite of a lot of the old school Sidekickers is the one they put together for the original BW/CSK model, featuring Johnny Chase:
T-Mobile should hire whoever’s behind this video to do their next commercial:
It hasn’t even been a week since the release of the Sidekick LX, and there are already hardware mods for it. Both the blue and brown Sidekick LXs come with blue moodlighting around the edges that flashes with alerts. A lot of people have complained and wished that there were different colors. Instead of whining, AcidAngel actually did something about it. He is now the owner of the only Sidekick LX with green LEDs in existence. All it took was a steady soldering hand and some patience. If you know how to solder, then you should be able to do the same. If you don’t know how to solder, you probably shouldn’t even bother attempting this. Needless to say, this totally voids your warranty but it’s pretty cool.
More videos of the Sidekick LX have been posted by our favorite forum admin. This time showing off the LX’s System Sounds, and just how loud the Speaker is.
