Sidekick LX 2009
We got the above image in our inbox. The reader sending it in danielle says she was taking a survey about smart phones on QuizPoints and was presented with this one. Here are the specs it lists in the photo:

Everything seems to match up with what a Sidekick LX 2009 would have. It mentions 3G, which is pretty much a given at this point. The introduction of Microsoft Live Search and maps makes a lot of sense since Microsoft now owns Danger. The addition of GPS (finally!) is also a nice complement to the maps and helps the Sidekick compete a little bit with the iPhone and other location-enabled devices. But I’m sure the thing that everyone is freaking out over now is the mention of YouTube mobile access. It’s probably the #1 request for the Sidekick by the majority of the users. It doesn’t seem that out of reach since the Sidekick can play video already, it just needs a way to get it from YouTube. None of the apps are groundbreaking, but they’re things that a lot of us would agree it would be nice to have on our Sidekick.
The hardware looks about right too. A 3.2MP camera isn’t the 5mp camera we hoped for, but it is a god bump up from the 2MP camera in the Sidekick 2008 (not to mention the 1.3MP in the LX). The screen is higher resolution (too early to start working on those new themes?) and of course the familiar keyboard is still there.
Is this the Sidekick Blade that we’ve been hearing whispers about? Hard to tell. We know that “Blade” is a codename and that internally (in software) it’s know as the “m3“. The “m2″ was the Sidekick 3, so one would guess the “m3″ would correlate to the elusive Sidekick 4 and a “large” upgrade in device. (FWIW, the Sidekick LX was the “m2-hd”) Could MSDanger be working on two devices? It’s very possible, but we don’t have anything to back this up or refute it yet.
So is this for real? We think so. At least we think it’s specs drawn up by someone official that is testing the water with consumers to see what they think. Whether it’s what we actually see in a device in the future, I’m not 100% sure. I think it definitely sounds like the next revision of the Sidekick LX. It’s not too ambitious, but does add a few of the most requested features. Seems to be the way that T-Mobile/MSDanger like to do things with the Sidekick.

I believe there is a picture of this leaked! I didn’t think so until I saw this post. Check out the leaked pictures of the t mobile g2 and you can see a slim sidekick in the back! It looks red to me but it could be available in more than one color. Here is the link to the picture

And many people don’t like all touch. It’s still not a perfect technology. The threaded texting is something i thought would be very useful. Also, it would be nice if the phone would be more open sourced so we could all download applications like the iphone/g2. I’ve had the LX since it was released, and I’ve loved it. I keep comparing it to my friends’ phones, and they’re all missing SOMETHING either one or more features the sidekick offers. Now with 3G added, and some other fancy things, we’ll finally be up there competing with this iPhone and Storm bullshit. Who needs a touchscreen?
The SK series of phones is for TEXTAHOLICS. People that will probably get carpal tunnel in their 30s because of this. I’m proud to be one of them. Can’t wait for this new LX! Want a touch screen? Get an iphone, I’m sure they’ll ditch their newest 3G model once the SKLX09 comes out. Then you’ll be left with old second gen ****! Everything always ends up Microsoft vs Apple, and now look where we are.
Love it, just polish it up a bit around the edges [not literally] and release it! all SK users will get it! I know I will.

I agree with those on not having a touch screen. It takes away the SK originality.. As someone said before, watch out the SK is going to blow all phone models out of the digital world. I love my SKLX since I am deaf to and it helps me stay in contact with my family and friends and offers IP-Relay. Phones like the IPhone are not reallt hearing impaired/deaf friendly. So now that Microsoft owns Danger, they are going to kick up the SK’s models a few notches!!

Wow I do not get why ppl are still comparing this to the iphone and all these other smart phones at the end of the day this is not a smart phone its a multimedia phone. The sidekick bar none has the best Im clients available because we have dedicated apps, unlike the aim on other phone which is ****. this is a great refresh to the phone as well as it looks thinner too, 3g is something I wanted and i am glad I have. One of the things I really want is for the screen to be all screen. All of the previous sk’s have that thick boarder with the tmo sign and sidekick sign on it taking up all that space. Give me a Full screen. Put the tmo and sk sign on the back or somewhere else. All that good screen real estate going to waste.

this phone looks like a champ. it will definitly be a phone other companies will compete with. as far as options, the sidekicks have always had pros and cons in every phone. they will never please everyone because we all have different taste. touchscreen on the sk? well not for me, unless they found a good way to integrate it but it would make it more expensive. the full qwerty keyboard makes the sidekick the sidekick. as far as apps, we pay for them because they are exclusive to us, like the my space. we have the best my space app out on phones. my space mobile is lame. just add 3g, threaded txt for you people, third party apps and ringers would be nice but its a corporation. they’ll make things just to bank more money. this sidekick is perfect for me, I wouldn’t ask for more, the camera will be perfect for this phone. thanks for takin the time and reading all of this!

I like the sounds of it, BUT WTF no Wi-Fi. This is pretty much the sole reason I will get another blackberry over the sidekick. It’s so convenient if you travel a lot to have the WiFi option for those weird places where you don’t get service, but can bum some WiFi and still get ahold of people. this sidekick looks nice. i heard it was gunna be touchscreen and it could be good and bad i dont care either way. i doubt its a slide even though i like my sidekick slide. i wish it had wifi and 3g like the g1 does. i dont care for gps cuz i have a garmin and ringtones cuz im always working so its usually on vibrate. i hope it has movie streaming for youtube and that the apps are free or at least cheap. right now my sidekick slide is always resetting and ill pick this sidekick up first day it comes out
oh btw the phone in the background of that other g2 pic is the red slide..looks just like mine
and if you want to take a cheap approach to the rising cost of the data plan, my family has the unlimited family text($20 a month) then you get the cheap internet plan(the g1 has one for $25 unlimited internet with 400 text) and the family texts makes yours unlimited anyway….but it only works if you have a family plan..

Im so happy right now. I was hoping for a touch screen (t.s.)[since that was really popular on the market] but seeing a sneek peak of the o9 and what it have to offer.. I think imma pass on the Behold or G1. Altho im slightly mad about the o9 not having a T.S. The web browing seem like it gonna be worth it. Sidekick is a TEXTING PHONE. not a smartphone at all. dont expect to do any advanced or semi advanced things at all, the web browser has sucked too, for all these years.

I believe that a sidekick with a touchscreen would open a whole new can of worms. That is the applications on such a device. It would be used for advanced navigation, data entry, etc. Once one begins to incorporate these things the sidekick is no longer a messaging and simple web device but a PDA/Smartphone. I think anyone who looks seriously at the sidekick will see that it IS a messaging and simple web device and that asking for too much out of this device will deform it’s intended use.
If one wants all the bells and whistles I think the best place to look is in the more advanced business class PDA/Smartphones or ultra small laptops coupled with cell modems.
Will this sidekick be a perfect solution for the intended audience? quite simply NO…nothing ever is. Is it the best solution for YOU? Maybe….that’s why there are so many products out on the market, because everyone wants different things. If the new sidekick won’t live up to your needs, then perhaps you shouldn’t buy one….but in the end you shouldn’t try to find any old solution and wine about what you want based on the “trendy” options avialable in the market. Do your research, look at the products in a store, think outside the box a little, and I’m sure you’ll find whatever you want…..heck, I know that right now it’s possible to have a 7″ laptop with a touchscreen, a cell modem, and be able to run any old application you want….maybe for all you people that want ALL the options, you should just get a regular old cell phone and one of these ultra small laptops….but wanting everything from a handheld device? It ain’t gonna happen…atleast not for a few years.

I’m not sure about this, as it seems that if they keep their plan prices the same that the monthly charge will be the deal maker for me. Currently I can pick up a sidekick and do a prepaid plan that’ll only cost $38 a month. I havn’t looked as hardcore as I should probably into these other options monthly cost, but the little I have it appears that you have to spend 60+ a month for these others.
Sidekick isn’t perfect by any stretch of the word, but for someone like myself who wants a qwerty keyboard, web, messaging, texting, and a few other bells and whistles it seems like the best option….I want it for communication mostly, with a dash of web and entertainment.
Please correct me if I’m wrong about the plan prices, as I myself am all about the money….If 3G ends up at $38 prepaid like the current sidekicks, and there isn’t a better price, I’m stickin to 3G Sidekick.

I’m not sure what the regular plans run, but that’s just the cost of a sidekick plan with T-mobile. Check out their site in the pre-paid area….they have all the regular pre-paid plans, and then they have one specifically for the sidekick.
I can’t remember the exact amount but it was something around $450 to get a pre-paid plan that lasts a year until you have to buy more time and includes unlimited Text/E-mail/Web. That of course isn’t unlimited calls, so if you make alot of calls it might not be worth it, but for me, a guy who likes to text and send E-mails, rarely calls people, or has short conversations, and hits alot of websites for info on the go…it’s perfect. I hate having to deal with bills and all that **** to, so buying all of my plan for a whole year is GREAT!

ok. so let’s put it this way. This sidekick is not a piece of **** like the other sidekicks that tmobile offers. I know this for a fact… I’ve personally have tested the phone. In fact I fix sidekicks all day… so if you have a sidekick you might have spoken to me! But anyway, The data pkg prices are still the same. If you currently have a SK web pkg that is grandfathered at the rate of $19.99 you will keep that price and if you have the current pkg at $34.99 trust me it’s not going to go up anytime soon or even at all. Now if you don’t want the social networking application bundle on your phone all you have to do is install the app and then uninstall it. That simple… or else you will get the prompt to download the app every 2 hours.

oh yeah… retail price is $449… if you are eligible for the horrible partial discount it’s $419… or if you are eligible for upgrade it’s $199 after mail-in rebate for $50. they didn’t want to go touch screen… that was all rumors.
OK to clear the air on if a data pkg is required…
The sidekick does not have any virtual memory. the only memory the phone has is the SIM and the SD card. So how it works is when you have a data pkg all your information is stored on the network. So like contact, notes, calendar, photos, etc. will be automatically stored in the danger server. Now if you don’t have a Sidekick data pkg… your phone is going to suck. Basically, if the battery falls out, the phone dies, or resets (sidekicks have a random reset cycle which will automatically reset itself) you will lose all your content because again the phone has no virtual memory and is not stored onto the network.
The sidekick is a data device. Yes, it requires internet to get on AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and yes as stupid as I may sound surf the web… believe it or not I hear it everyday. and also you must have data pkg to send MMS and access the download catalog.

I love sidekicks… have had them for years.. but they are seriously so behind in technology in comparison with the other phones out there. Touch screen honestly isnt necessary but at least have wi-fi capabilities. more available email storage. somethin! Danger is barely keeping up and the only reason why I still have a sidekick is because of the old unlimited data plan for sidekicks and the AIM. best aim out of any other phone out. other than that I couldnt see myself spending hundreds of dollars for this new one. I also own an HTC Tilt which out-dated by the Fuze and the new kick cant even compare to that. I’ll probably buy it out of contract from an outside source somewhere along the line.

I got rid of my LG Voyager for the Sidekick LX 2009. This new SK is way more up to date in many ways than the Voyager…my SK II was a much better device than Voyager! Touchscreen would be nice for simple functions when device is closed (I’m so used to tapping icons on the screen that I still find myself trying to do it on the SK) but it is not necessary…an on-screen keyboard would be nice for short and quick text but that doesn’t even need to be touch screen. And wi-fi? I don’t get what the big deal about wi-fi is. Unless you live in a place with city-wide wi-fi it’s almost pointless. I don’t know about you but I don’t hang out in coffee houses that much and even so the 3G is plenty fast anyway…unless there was a Skype app to make free calls. Outside of the iPhone, G1 and maybe foreign phones the SK LX 2009 is probably the best thing out there.

The no contract price is $449. If you are eligible for a partial discount it’s $419 + $18 upgrade fee. Or if you are eligible for full upgrade then it’s $199 + $18 upgrade fee after rebates. Don’t be dumb and dispute this with me. I work with damn sidekicks all day and advertise the **** out of them.

To all my sk lovers the new sk lx 09 is going for 250.00 in stores only if you sign up with a contract but if you just want the phone with a prepaid plan (that you can switch over later) it’s 350.00!!!!! It’s a really great phone guys! So far I can make my own ringtones, Make my own themes and enjoy the internet right in the palm of my hands! Im so in love with my new lx 09! You can add apps, music videos, mp3/mp4 etc files, you can even go on youtube to watch the lastest tricks for the new lx09! It’s probably the same tricks for the lx 08 but who cares? there’s no touch screen but hey if you want one just get the G1! That’s my next purchase…… I think I can finally say that I’m a sk junkie and this is my first one ever!!!!!!!!!!! Feel free to comment any questions or info about the lx09!!!!!!! Toodles!
