Sidekick LX Video Playback
So everyone has seen the video recording capabilities of the Sidekick LX, but what about video playback? We converted a video into .3gp and tossed it on the Sidekick to see how it looked. Surprisingly it turned out pretty good! It’s not unreasonable to think that people could be watching TV shows and music videos on their Sidekick. We won’t say movies are a possibility because we haven’t done any testing to see just how much of an impact this has on battery life. Anyways, enough talk, here’s the video:

Thats not bad.. But is 3gp your only option? I thought i read something about mp4 format. Also does the update come about? Will one phone just turn off andf restart one day – then boot up with all the new junk?
June 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
It can do both. 3gp takes up less memory than mp4, but mp4 is better quality.
If your asking how you know you’ve got the OTA or what it’ll look like when you do. A box will pop up on the screen and it’ll say something like your device is ready for an update. It gives you three options, Install Now, Install Later, Remind Me Tomorrow. When you install it it’ll do a reset and then you’re good to go

I was wondering.. I found some free games I downloaded, one of the 2 files in a jar file, it says to put on your phone and install. Can you really install games for free without going through the tmobile shops..?
June 24th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
No, you can’t download stuff from the web browser, it won’t work. Everything must come from the catalog
June 24th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
No. I meant using a pc to download the file and put it on the mini sd card and place it in your phone. The website I got it from had a section for sidekick lx. The game was tetris.
I saw a youtube video once and somebodt had a game on the screen that look like a generic tetris. Also I recently saw a youtube video and somebody was emulating nes roms on a sidekick lx. Maybe there is a hack..

hey i got my updat yesterday and i tried putting mp4 videos and it will work for about 5 seconds and the screen turns black but the music still plays.. Any Help?
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:22 am
the video format need to be 3gp just convert it to 3gp
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 am
video.3gp not mp4
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:30 pm
it will play mp4
chances are the file size is too large for your sidekick
so while its playing, its processing which causes it to black and freeze up
ive had to find the right balance between quality and file size for my sidekick to tolerate a youtube vid that i downloaded and converted to mp4 in order to get it to play moderately decent
i had the same problm with 3gpp as well, as far as blacking out and file sizes ho

Guys please listen up closely 😉 and read carefully.
Ok, I did a little research and figured out how to Download the videos off youtube and convert them to mp4 so they can be added to your phone.
Follow closely these steps and read carefully, its fairly simple.
1. Download Free Youtube to Ipod Converter
Link: https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/download/FreeYouTubeToiPodConverter.exe
2. Open the converter and Add a Youtube link to it. For Example…This random video I chose!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4UuTiK4a7o&fmt=18
(Now notice, that in the end of the link theres a “&fmt=18″. That is very important and It must be there, If it isn’t then add it onto the link”
Simply place that in the Input URL.
3. Select the Output.
Click Devices, Choose MP4 Mobile Phones, and select The Standard Quality. Then just simply edit where you want the video to be downloaded to and the name you want it to have and just download it.
4. Plug in your phone through the USB connector to your pc, and open the Music Folder. Simply click and drag the video in there.
5. Unplug your USB, and check your Music Player library, and there should be a video in the videos tab. Just click and viola.
Your welcome in advance
