TMobile Specifications and Contents

Thanks to “A.” for tossing the list of specifications that supposedly came from T-Mobile Corporate. Looks legit to me. Everything seems to match up. Of course, being a rumour site, this isn’t “official” until we see a scanned copy of the memo signed in blood by the CEO of TMobile, and witnessed by at least 3 people!

According to this a 64mb miniSD card will be included, the Sidekick 3 will have the trusty Rock and Rockets, No MMS support (this is TMobile’s doing I’m sure), no video capture support, AIM/Yahoo/MSN, the mp3 player IS SonicBOOM, and looks like the screen is still 240×160. The standby battery life of 60 hours will be nice as my current sidekick 2 only gets about a day of standby. Enough chatter, here’s the full list that we received:

Specifications
Battery Life Talk time (hours): 5 hours

Standby time (days): 60 hours

Talk and standby times and other specifications are provided by the manufacturer and are approximate. Actual performance varies based upon features or services used, network configuration, signal strength, operating temperature, customer use, and other factors.

the only thing that gets me is there is no voice dialing, but there is bluetooth. you wouldn’t get the full use out of a bluetooth headset if there was no voice dialing..

    What’s mms?

  7. Toyakon Says:

Well actually, both of you are wasting a comment, ink drinker just put that CJDynasty was not intelligent, nothing else, so technically he wasted a comment as well, and here i am wasting my time by stats is very stateing this

Anyways, to not waste a good comment, it is good information however this is very sad for some people to see because some major things people I know want(Myself included) is zoom for the camera, voice dialing, mms, and video recorder. But i suppose a phone cant have everything. Oh well maybe an over the air update will fix these problems.

    MMS is picture messaging.

NOOOOO. I really wanted an alarm :(

  10. kreshendo Says:

Why won’t t-mobile let us have mms? what’s the problem? I think their network wouldn’t be able 2 handle it. Especially if its unlimited mms included with the data plan. Sk users would overload their servers. T-Mobile needs to step it up.

  11. jonjon Says:

thats wigidy wack… im disapointed… even thoe theres the big feats that i really like i still want the little things that should be in a phone… now i dont even kno if i want the sk3 =(

theres no way your not going to be able 2 send pix to eachother… thats way wrong

so your telling me the sk3 is thicker then it is tall? and also that the sk3 is only 1.26 inches tall?

Sigh still have to send pics through email that suks jus give me the damn phone already

  15. ldominicano Says:

Why would you list to potential buyers what ur phone can not do? Lol 5 bucks says a fair amount of the no’s will become yes’ thru ota updates, if not “dowloadable content” so when were the upgrade emails suppose to go out? ….x

    This is abso-****ing-lutely absurd.

  20. pescado Says:

you guys, this is hella fake. First off, any legit corporation is going to have all gramatical errors fixed. if you look, some catergories have colons, others don’t. and then also,

    Vibrate Yes
    Voice Dialing No
    Camera
Modes Yes – Airplane mode, maximum. Loud, normal, soft, buzz, and silent
    Megapixel(s) Yes

why would you list these together? lastly, airplane mode isn’t a sound profile, it’s dealing with the radio signal.

    bogus.

  21. InkDrinker Says:

MMS is a must have… a phone cannot be this big and claim to be a smart phone/pda without all the basic features that come w/ everyday phones… What is T-mobile doing!?

  22. InkDrinker Says:

I’m gonna buy every program possible for SK3 so that my Sk3 is the most superior one on the planet… its gonna b tight

  23. Britne Says:

Think about some things though. T-mobile wants to make money, so they are probably more then likely going to offer some sort of program to send your pictures to other phones. Just like they made the Picture Transfer app.

I don’t think it will be superior compared to other phones that are already out

  25. GreekPharoah Says:

Do you guys even have Sidekicks? We have NEVER had MMS. What’s the big surprise? This is not because T-Mobile hates its Sidekick users, but because the system that is used for T-Mobiles MMS services reads the Sidekick as a computer, not a phone. Basically this means we don’t have MMS until T-Mobile updates its MMS services. Don’t hold your breath.

Whether the SK3 is “superior” to other similar phones is debatable. But It is certainly not inferior. Our OS is flawless and we can do things other PDA’s can’t.

  26. R_Con Says:

    Glad the specs aren’t great. I don’t give a **** about the Sk3.

hey guys…i was reading the posts and i’m a bit confused as far as upgrades go.

a person said through T-Mobile you HAVE to have 2 yrs up or whatever to be eligible (like the generic upgrade)… another person said that they’d have a program for SK1 & SK2 users to upgrade & save $100..

unfortunately i JUST got the SK2…and this is coming out…so will i be able to upgrade to the SK3 without paying the full price?

    whats the deal?
    thanks

  29. Jeph Says:

    GreekPharoah:

Obviously the majority of us on this “forum” are Sidekick owners; the ones with most complaints are, in fact, Sidekick owners. The reason a few of us are pining so inexorably is clear: Every. Other. Phone. Can do it.

We adhere to the Sidekick series for one reason: it’s a device *nearly ideal* for communication. The keyboard is flawless; the applications (AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN, what have you) are sensational; and the data plan is, without a doubt, the most affordable yet functional. MMS is the only thing the Sidekick II lacks. Bluetooth really doesn’t impress me much, but MMS appears so basic a function for any camera phone.

You’d think with as many setbacks as it’s been through, T-Mobile might have done a bit of upgrading to their “MMS services.”

As for InkDrinker, follow suit of your moniker and spare us your sycophantic prattle.

A very embittered college student who’s having a bad test week (so apologies in advance)

  30. CJDynasty Says:

i think he was talkin about the battery d00d.

anyways.. yeah, i agree with everyone how no mms is lame, but what are ya gonna do. i still can’t comprehend why there is such a taboo on video. alright, alright yeah the sidekick’s os owns and is amazing. yeah, we already knew that. we can’t go on using that reason alone forever for why the sidekick is a must have. honestly, they need to catch up with some of these features man. all in due time i guess.

  32. smubound Says:

I won’t believe this post until it’s “signed in blood” like the admin likes to put it…

  33. tonightwestorm Says:

i always with agree with Jeph.
just because we’ve had to deal with in the past doesn’t mean that MMS isn’t something that t-mobile can smart up to. the rest of the world uses MMS, so why should such a supposedly “advanced smartphone” not support it, regardless of the network it is on.

    i also agree with smubound.
this is still all 100% heresay.
the only thing we know for sure is what’s in the manual, and that still isn’t 100%.
not to mention the future OTA updates.

  40. GreekPharoah Says:

    Jeph:

Yes, obviously most of us here are SK users. I was just commenting to the few people reacting to the lack of MMS because this seemed new to them.

And sure, the SK is a “nearly ideal” device. But what device out there IS 100% perfect? I can’t think of any.

In fact, you listed 4 major pros for the SK. The lack of MMS seems to be your only con. And yes “every other phone can do it”, but technically, the SK CAN do it as well. The SK device is MADE to support MMS. That is why Canadian Hiptop users can MMS. T-Mobile SK’s can’t for the reason that I gave above.

I guess I’m just a die hard SK fan that supports it no matter what. Ive been with it from the begining and its changed my life. Don’t get me wrong, I would’nt mind MMS, but this is not possible now. My life is not shattered because of it. It seems you should have bigger things to worry about as well with your exams. Good luck with them.

  41. smubound Says:

The calculater should be free in the download fun thing

  42. Jeph Says:

(Spare me your animosity. I’ve also been a Sidekick user from the beginning. This could have been kept clean . . . however . . .)

That stab at my priorities wasn’t necessarily as painful when my beef with no MMS is juxtaposed with how much the Sidekick “changed your life.”

I’m not heartbroken over it; just a bit irritated. It’s not exactly like checking that site is necessarily the most convenient thing in the world. And I’d like to share a few moments with more than just SK users.

And re-read; I did said “MMS is the only thing the Sidekick lacks.” :) So, yes: that is my only con.

    *aaahhhem*

  43. GreekPharoah Says:

Sheesh! I think those tests are taking their toll on you. My first post wasn’t to defend the lack of MMS, but rather to give a reason as to WHY there isn’t any. Don’t shoot the messenger. And my second post directly at you was just to clear up my first one. I’m sorry if you are reading my comments the wrong way, but I meant no harm. That was no “stab at your priorities”, believe it or not I was sincerly wishing you luck on your exams.

And I don’t need to re-read anything. I got it right the first time. You list one con for the SK. Your pros outweigh your cons. That was exactly my point.

And yes, the SK has changed my life. I’m a nerd like that. Don’t make fun of me LOL

Anyway, I’m glad I could serve as your punching bag for a while but I’m not here to argue and/or make enemies.

  44. Jeph Says:

    Yes . . . Yes, I believe they are. I apologize. :x

  45. Abercrombie_06 Says:

Those specs are ***!!! Booo SK 3. It doesn’t have alarm, calculator,MMS,Zoom,Video!!! What the hell? Last time I checked we are in the year 2006 not 1999. What a waste of technology.

  46. Faufrey Says:

If this is real then the screen quality has not changed.. thats lame…

  49. ohshhitscarl Says:

    Abercrombie_06.
The truth is that the SK3 comes with limited storage (well not that limited) that is distributed with “blocks”;just like the SKII. Why would T-Mobile load up the SK3 with tools that not EVERYONE needs? That is why Calculator,Alarm, etc. will be available through the PDM Catalog, just like the SKII.

And frankly, I don’t understand why people complain about the screen resolution. I think that you’re missing the point of the “swivel screen”. The screen’s resolution is absolutely exceptional for it’s size and maneuverability. The screen rotates to reveal a fully functional keyboard. How many other smart phones have the same functionality of the screen and keyboard combination? hm.

  50. Faufrey Says:

i understand your point, but c’mon still. my two year old basic flip phone i had from verizon was better than the resolution on the SK2 and for it to be the same on the SK3. its been two years and they cant even improve the god dam screen. The 1.3 mega pixel camera wont even be able to show its ability. maybe i expect to much, i deffinatly think i dont… dam hazy screen.

  51. xLoveDeath Says:

No one said you HAD to buy a sidekick 3. Also, its majority of everyones fault that your so disappointed with the SK3. No one ever said there WOULD be video, it was just made up by others who like to get people over whelmed when its not even announced so STFU to everyone that complains.

  52. Faufrey Says:

no, i will still buy one. but i will complain about it to. its better that way.

Does anyone know if you have stuff like time travler and other apps, can you convert it to the sk2 to the sk3 cuz i dont want to pay for it again

Is EDGE like Wifi? I am sorry, i dont know many computer terms.

  57. OhSoFly Says:

Does any1 kno if the AIM icons will animate on the sk3?????? =/ ?????

  58. phaserx Says:

hey thanks to “A” for giving us info we already know.. this site needs to come with some new info correct.. sidekick3.blogspot owns hiptop3.com bigtime.

  59. R Kritikal Says:

thats seriously the least of my worries

  60. briankeith Says:

It’s not just the lack of MMS, it’s lack of video, lack of wifi, lack of upgrade to screen res, lack of a better camera period and ultimately lack of new features that makes it the Sidekick 3 and not the Sidekick 2.5.

Now, I still want the Sidekick 3, but I’m trying to think with reason here.. Why would I or anyone else want this phone over let’s say.. the MDA (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/Detail.aspx?tp=tb2&device=8802ddeb-1ee4-477a-9608-d9cd1e2a903f)

    Which has:

    1. Edge
    2. Wi-fi
    3. Video playback
    4. windows media player (possibly a minus for some lol)
    5. The T-Mobile Total Internet Add On Feature gives you unlimited Internet access and unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot access. (Could you possibly use this service with your laptop as well?)
    6. I think it has a better Res too? I could be wrong.
    7. the screen is touch sensitive
    8. it runs windows mobile 5.0 which isn’t Rock solid like the sidekick OS but it has basically unlimited support. Hundreds of hundreds of usefull apps.
    9. And it’s cheaper. Amazon price: $200.

What does the sidekick 3 have over this phone
(using info that we currently have)

    1. Solid OS
    2. The screen flips
    3. Easier to hold
    4. better keyboard

But the MDA isn’t even the best device to compare the sidekick 3 to. There are even better phones to compare it too.

My question is.. Ladies and Gentleman, are we really getting our money worth (think $300 give or take $50)? Or are we paying for a name?

Please.. if you have more (Logical) reasons why the Sidekick 3 is still one of the best buys for a new phone (I’m not asking for anyone to prove it will be the best phone on the market.. just comparable for the price point to other similar phones) respond here!

I’m 80% sure i’m getting a sidekick 3 regardless.. I would just loike to feel like less of an idoit/sheep for doing it.

    Thanking you all in advance,
    - brian

does neone know if the sidekick III will be prepaid? because i use prepaid only becuase i have a contract with another cell phone company. and its just easier for me to have prepaid. i dont feel like doin the whole two cell phone contracts just for the sidekick III. so does neone have any idea if there will be a sidekick III prepaid?

  62. ohshhitscarl Says:

    zman,
Danger should have made the Hiptop OS 3 backwards compatible with OS 2.4 (latest release for Fido). I can’t say officially but Danger should be starting their upgrade process for developers. Although the new OS 3 bundle for java programmers has not yet been released, documentation should be available soon for developers to begin making new apps for OS 3.

Edge is not like WiFi. Edge is a service that is provided by the wireless service carrier that allows faster data transfers than regular GPRS and GSM. WiFi is a AdHoc Driven network for Computer devices. WiFi “Hot Spots” are owned by third party companies/people. The only real use for WiFi Networks for the SK3 would be to use the internet, but who needs that when you have Edge?

  63. CJDynasty Says:

All in all, Im in love with the SK3. I mean, the only gripe that I feel can be legitimatly made about the kick is the lack of mms, which is a service problem rather than the device itself. I mean, all of this talk about the lack of zoom, video, and alarm is straight garbage. I mean if you want video, get a mini dv cam. IF you want zoom, then get a legit digicam, and not rely on a 1.3 megapixel. Lastly, if you want an alarm clock… Go to Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. Woahh Says:

No.. Well.. I want an alarm clock because I usually need two alarms to get me up. I know it’s not a -must- have.. But it IS nice to have because it does come in handy. By the way.. I don’t even remember downloading the calculator or alarm clock on my Sidekick II, Does anyone remember how much it costs? (If it costed anything? x_x) I dunno where my sidekick went..

  65. trackman Says:

    Maybe its mda time

  66. paige Says:

you can dowload the alarm clock feature onto the sidekick?

Guess what i looked up all those words and was slightly less impressed… Tell me jeph how many times have u used that impressive but over used insult on any idiot blogger u come by? Its such a general yet clever statement that im sure youve made it a macro on your computer by now. GOOD LUCK with that.

  68. ohshhitscarl Says:

The alarm clock for T-Mobile is “Time Traveler”, it provides Alarm and countdown features. It’s $4.99. The Calculator is Free, unless you want the new Graphing Calculator that’s out and that’s $5.99.

  69. briankeith Says:

ok… Can someone reply to my post above?

  70. paige Says:

thanks ohshhititscarl.nice name by the way lol.anyway, for all the people pissed about there not being MMS,true it would be more convienent to have it but all you would have to do is send it to your email, open up the email on the sidekick&send it to the person.it’s not like you even have to go to another computer to open up the email which wouldn’t take long either.

The edge for the sidekick is only class 2 as opposed to the new blackberry which is class 10…..the main reason people prefer the sidekick is its ease of use, and the built in instant messanger……I’ve tried the blackberry and the mda and everytime I went back to my sidekick……its one of a kind and they send over the air updates which always improve service and its capabilites…….ppl are expecting too much from this phone……if u want the world just walk around with your laptop in your pocket!!!!

Y’all don’t forget that tmo offers a 14 day exchange policy. *shrugs* if u don’t like the sk3 return it, get another smartphone/pda.

And to all of these petty arguments, lets just stop them and enjoy talking bout the sk3, get along with each other, that’s the thing all the cool kids are doing now.

And to everyone who has a sk3 complaint here’s my advice: they wouldn’t of put out this product so soon with the few capabilities that it lacks (if it even lacks mms) if there wasn’t everyone bitching for it to come out. Next time stop rushing, they put this one out so soon to shut everyone up. Lets all try something new for the sk4 (if there will b 1) lets just speculate about it…not the release date…

And everyone stop bitching bout the admin…the real world sometimes does get in the way of the internet world, and the real world also doesn’t move as fast as the internet either…ever think about that?

Now that I’ve got all of that out I can go to bed and just wait to see what nasty comments wait for me here in the morning…

    Goodnight

hey, did anyone happen 2 catch the nba finals last night, cause they were doing a piece during the halftime show about that autistic kid, and he was at the game last night taking pictures with the mavs and mark cuban. and i swear 2 god, not making this up. but he had the sk3 in his hand. if anyone can find a way 2 replay that part and freezeframe it, the u’ll know its in his hand. atleast we know its coming soon

I can dig what your saying. Granted I do like to complain….. People are getting way to worked up over this.

  82. InkDrinker Says:

Look Jeph, I am sorry that I hurt you. Smubound is right, we need to all appreciate eachothers shared interest in the SK3 and also remain calm in our responses to certain *obstacles* that present themselves. MMS is lacking but like we have stated previously it is still a great device.

The one issue that I do find Irksome is that this is a SK3 Disscussion website and some people are continually shooting down others whenever they make a complaint about the device. What do you expect from a blog Jeph? For us all to view the pictures they give us in a hushed awe and for us to appreciate everything that Tmo has done for us? That sounds a little ridiculous… maybe next time you will let people get in there own opinions instead of dominating the discussion and forcing people to view your opinions.

  86. smubound Says:

I doubt T-Mobile would release the SK3 to upgrading users before new ones; seems easier to just release it to the entire “public” all at once.

  89. Comebackid Says:

fluidmtl quick question were is that pic of the magazine if it true

  90. InkDrinker Says:

The Sidekick 3 is going to cost 450.00 according to the article in the newspaper listed above. It is supposed to be 20% faster and 20% smaller than the sidekick 2. Everyone who asked for the price, your welcome.

  91. youngeurow Says:

450 dollars what the flying **** I can get a mda cheaper with better features cot damn this is getting out of hand tmobile needs to release its statement fast so they can put to rest all of these rumors

  92. smubound Says:

  94. InkDrinker Says:

The one in the newspaper, the debut the new Q smart phone from Tmo as well. Listed prices for both the Q and the Sidekick.

  95. comebackkid Says:

man that price cant be right it has to be at least 400 but i hope it is 350

  96. youngeurow Says:

  97. smubound Says:

The only price that it gives in that article is for the Moto Q…btw the Q is only available for Verizon, not T-Mobile. The article says that the prices aren’t released yet for the SK3…so no freaking out people…

You shouldn’t be acting as if you’re so much smarter than other people because look at your last complete sentence.

  114. murdermittenmatt Says:

ok so the pic comment did not work. all im saying is PEOPLE, read the site. READ ALL THE ARTICLES. and youre questions will be answered. with the information that is availible.

    price
    screen res
    size
    EDGE
    WiFi

all answers are here, so stop asking.

  115. InkDrinker Says:

K this is a double barrel question.

First of all CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME DA SCREEN RESOLUTION!! god dangit.

And 3rdly wat n tarnation is Edge, and can I have it??

  116. murdermittenmatt Says:

    Display Type: SXVGA
    Colors: (16-bit) 65K
    Size: (pixels) 240 x 160

if you would have just read the article to which you are commenting, you would see the above specs right there.

EDGE is a type of connection that allows for faster data transfer over the web. think of it as dial up was the old sk2 browser speed and now the sk3 will be like DSL with having EDGE.

  117. InkDrinker Says:

Gee, thx mr. All those numbers just comin flying at me with no warning or nutin, M’ sure grateful fo’ your service Mr. Thank ‘m for explaining it to’s me.
