April

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

April is almost on us here, and still no news. With all the people that said the cat remote was going to hit the streets in April, it will be interesting to see if it actually does! Shall we start guessing the actual date it hit’s the market? I’m thinking June 26th. hehe

Danger registers for both Electronics and Audio booth?

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Today marked the first day of the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, which runs till Feb 16th. Danger has two booths registered there, and it is rumoured that one is in the Audio section of the congress. Could this be the announcement of the Sidekick III? (They don’t seem to have a section for “Pet Control” so it’s hard to tell)

In addition to the exhibition, there is the GSM Association Awards on Feb 14th with categories such as

  • Mobile Innovation Award
  • Best Mobile Messaging Service
  • Best GSM Handset or Device
  • Best Broadcast Commercial
  • We can’t tell if Danger is in the running or not, but we will definitely keep an ear out to see if they win anything. Anyone out in Barcelona this week?

-thanks to “p” for the heads up-

    Update:
    Some Guy Says:
    February 13th, 2006 at 1:17 pm

I hate to burst everyone’s bubble but the “rumor” that they have an “electronics” booth and an “audio/visual” booth comes from some guy who looked at the list of exhibitors for the 3gsm world conference and say the prefaced letter for the two booths Danger has. E and AV. E doesn’t mean electronics. Inside the buildings they are ordered into arbitrary sections A, B, C, D, E, F, etc. AV doesn’t mean Audio/Video, it just means the booth is along the Avenue (The AV is given for all booths along the Avenue. For more info, look at the actual floorplans at the 3gsm world conference site.

As to the question, “Why would Danger be there if not to show off another device?” I can think of one good reason- there is no better place to make contacts and try and woo new carriers (particurally European carriers).

    Sunday, February 5th, 2006

It’s been quiet lately… almost too quiet. Maybe because NDA’s are being put into full effect right before a release? When do you think we’ll see the release of the sidekick 3? Put your guesses in the comments and we’ll see who ends up guessing right!

    Secrets of the Sidekick III

    Monday, November 28th, 2005

    via Gizmodo
What have we here? Reader BA sent us this little tidbit from T-Mobile describing the Sidekick timeline out to 2007. We can expect the SK III in Spring 2006 and some kind of insane RAZR/Sidekick/Video Player in 2007. Then what’s all this with the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) stuff? WiFi? Bluetooth? Oh, what delectable anticipation!

Will all this rumor and conjecture come to fruition? Who knows, but now we can safely assume that the SK III will be not-so-available this holiday season.

Larger pic after the jump. Forensics, anyone?

    Sidekick III product roadmap revealed?

    Friday, November 25th, 2005

    vie Engadget

Not sure where it was taken or if this is even legit, but supposedly someone out there sneakily snapped this pic of T-Mobile’s Sidekick roadmap, possibly revealing that they’re planning to introduce a music-centric Sidekick III in April of next year and a second version with support for UMA (aka Unlicensed Mobile Access, a standard for seamlessly roaming back and forth between GSM cellular and WiFi networks — it sounds like T-Mob might be taking advantage of all their hotspots) in September of 2006, with Sidekick III limited editions to follow a month later (just like how they intro’d two limited edition versions of the Sidekick II last month). The next Sidekick after that, which is supposedly code-named the “Sidekick NG”, is listed as being set to drop in June of 2007. The Sidekick NG will supposedly have support for music, video, and UMA, but what’s really baffling us is that there’s also mention of the word “RAZR” in there. Is Danger fixing to come out with a more RAZR-styled Sidekick? Or is this proof that this is a fake?

    Re: Sidekick 3?

Yes, it’s coming. It will have most of the upgrades you’d expect, like EDGE, a memory card slot, and a music player.

It won’t be out until next year, though. You know it will be a while because T-Mobile is just now introducing all these special edition SKIIs… they wouldn’t do that if the real new one was just around the corner.

Sidekick III Launch Rumor – April 2006

    Friday, November 4th, 2005

    via Gizmodo

    Interesting rumor:

I was at a conference at [some place] on [doing something for people]. During lunch, I sat next to [Some very important guy who knows this stuff] and we got to discussing the sidekick.

He indicated that the sidekick III would be released in April of 2006. I asked him a few times for hints or details (believe me, I tried) but no luck.

The sender asked me to redact a lot of the info and hide his identity, but there you have it. April 2006. From someone who should know. [Thanks, Franco A. Wilcox of Madison, Wisconsin!]

Some Truth To The Sidekick 3

    Monday, October 24th, 2005

    via Gizmodo

Ever since that god-awful leaked picture has come out, we’ve heard countless rumors about the Sidekick 3 from T-Mobile. We actually have some real news from an insider at T-mobile who has the scoop. The Sidekick 3 will NOT be running Windows Mobile at all, so get that out of your heads. Also, if you were holding back on getting a Sidekick II until the 3 comes out, you’re not in luck. The Sidekick 3 won’t be released at all in 2005, so keep your eyes peeled in 2006 for it. We’ll let you know more details when they come.

Rumor: More On the “Private List” for the Sidekick 3?

    Thursday, October 20th, 2005

    via Gizmodo

We got this amusing email from a reader who heard from her local T-Mobile store that the Sidekick 3 may be coming out this December, but there’s also a private “invitation-only” list if you want to get it by late November. Here’s what she wrote:

I went to the T-Mobile store in my area, it located on 5th street in Brooklyn New York. They are an actual T-mobile store. I went in to purchase a Sidekick because my sidekick broke and I needed a new one because I didn’t opt for the insurance when I purchased it. She told me to add the insurance on my phone and then to buy a cheaper phone (a $50 chepo) and wait about a week and claim my phone through the insurance and not to waste my time buying a Sidekick and spending the $400 for the phone because T-mobile was coming out with the new Sidekick 3 in December, she also told me to keep this hush because they have a private list for this phone and that it was by invite only. The invite would be for late November and the phone for the public would be for December around X-Mas. But I am going to do major brown nosing to get on that list for Nov.

There’s a private list?! Eh? So who gets to be on the list? Paris Hilton? Lindsay Lohan? What’s up with this exclusivity? T-Mobile’s being super-sly about this, which makes me think this new Sidekick 3 had better be something special. Now excuse me, as I try to see if I can work my way into this “private list.”
