Sidekick 4G at Radioshack on April 20th
No official word from T-Mobile, but Radioshack let it slip that they’ll be selling the Sidekick 4G on April 20th. That means current Sidekick users won’t have to use a temporary phone after the May 31st shut off of the existing Sidekick service. You’ll be able to jump directly to the new Sidekick!

April 4th, 2011 at 7:30 pm
Great, the hoodrats finally have a upgrade.
April 5th, 2011 at 3:10 am
Which is after the upgrade offer ends. Hello Sprint.
April 5th, 2011 at 1:46 pm
Call Tmobile’s Customer Loyalty department to get your current Danger/Sidekick plan rates locked in. keep in mind unlimited TXT is often MORE $$ on top of their unlimited plans (NOT included like it was on the Sidekick plans)
April 5th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
This is fake, I heard from a friend that it will be released May 4th, that Radio Shack news was posted on April Fool’s day. But hey you never know, this can turn out to be true.
April 5th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
Umm I doubt it…im sure they would of said it was a joke by now lol
April 5th, 2011 at 3:49 pm
This news wasn’t even confirmed by T-Mobile and just now my friend had a talk with a representative at the store they told him that it will be out by the summer so yeah that was posted on April 1st because I first saw this headline on Engadget’s website on that date.
April 5th, 2011 at 5:08 pm
Hmmm well jus have to wait and see….it would be a dum April fool’s joke cuz Radioshack announced they would be gettin the sidekick the day before April fool’s
April 5th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
lol the “day before” April Fool’s it’s past that date, do they even have it? Nope, and I wouldn’t believe anything a store says unless it’s announced by the carrier itself. So we’ll just have to wait and see.
April 5th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
Wouldn’t it be better to wait until they announce the prices, etc?
April 5th, 2011 at 6:06 pm
No i meant they posted that on twitter the day before April fool’s! Lol…yes we will!
April 5th, 2011 at 6:07 pm
Oh lol and we’ll see.
April 6th, 2011 at 5:01 am
what exactly do i say? and shouldnt i wait till right before i purchase the phone?
April 6th, 2011 at 8:36 am
yea, that tweet was posted on march 31st, so if it was a joke, it was terribly executed.
April 7th, 2011 at 7:06 am
It’s official. Check t-mobile’s twitter. April 20th.
April 7th, 2011 at 10:20 am

Cant lie, I just switched over to the G2. Had it for about a week now. Truth be told, this new SK ain’t nothing but an android, so I might as well had switched. It’s just not a sk without Danger.
April 11th, 2011 at 1:55 pm
@Muhxfugger Suggested retail price (without new contract) for the Sidekick 4G is $379.99. More info: https://bit.ly/hcxk1C #SK4G ^CC

Welcome to the end of the mediocrity that is Danger, Sidekick users!
In my hands is one of the new Sidekick 4G handsets, and I’ll tell you now that it competes well against other Android handsets on the market for the price that you will be paying for it, with or without a contract. My only vice against the handset? The fact that it doesn’t have flash on the camera (which may be a deal breaker for some people, but not all.) Generally, I am against heavy customizations of Android OS, but Samsung really did their homework and found ways to bridge Samsung Touchwiz, former antiquated Hiptop and regular Google Experience preferences into one package.
For those of you who loved the old hardware but yearned for more, I am willing to bet my black and pink chips that most of you will like the new change (and the death of Danger when it comes to Android Platform Sidekicks.)
Welcome to “The New Age of Sidekick”. Leave your antiquated Danger devices in the firepit and welcome to the party!
April 12th, 2011 at 1:59 am
BTW @Phlaymz, as one of the original B/W Sidekick users, I can tell you that *YOU’RE WRONG!* This new device (even sans flash for camera) is everything that some Sidekick/Hiptop users wished Danger devices would be (from 2003 to it’s death), yet failed to be in many aspects. Your G2 is a Google Experience device intended to be a stock rom experience. Of course, if you are not happy with that, you have the ability to “cook” your rom (as many XDA-Developers already do, which is yet another advantage over the Danger (lack of) experience that drew them closer and closer to obsolescence. Even the G2 has a few tricks up it’s sleeve if you do the research and make the upgrades. 😉
The new Sidekick reboot excels in many aspects, from the rare notice that the customizations are actually smooth and better on this device than most other Androids for the price offered and many amenities that aren’t locked down (unlike the Danger Devices, which are arcane at best.)

i have the grand fathered sk plan, i’ve had a sk since 2008 and still own one now. i just talked to a rep and was told i would have to pay 20 more dollars a month for what i have now, which doesn’t seem fair at all considering i’ve been a costumer for years now and i’m having to invest in a new phone. is there anyway around this or is tmobile just not giving a shit that sidekick users have to dish out more money for something that isn’t our fault.
April 16th, 2011 at 5:53 pm
While it doesn’t hurt to try, the reason why you are paying an increase is because you are no longer using the Danger Servers (which, when compared to other, more general servers, are quite antiquated.) The consequence of going to the Android environment is that you are going on a more robust network that is used with other devices that utilize the same abilities. On another note, with root capabilities, your ability to “tether” your SK-Android device is possible, whereas if you were to tether a Danger device, you’d end up with trivially adverse results.
It is unfortunate to some, however, from experience I ended up getting more for my buck with the upgrade in services that came along with paying the higher premium.

FUCKK YOU and your new aged SH*TKICK
April 18th, 2011 at 6:57 pm

nice phone imm finna get dat hoe
April 19th, 2011 at 12:43 pm
You all know the facts, and if you really are going to disregard a phone because the technology is better than your old phone you are truly an idiot.
What is wrong about the new Sidekick really? The fact that the screen doesn’t swivel…cry me a river and get the Morotola Flipot.
Honestly the only thing to complain about is lack of flash on the 3mp camera, which I’ve read in reviews is much better than expected. All other features are up to par with what is available on the market. The fact that it is 4G also makes it one of the best phones on the market by default. How many phones have the front-facing camera at this point…and the best QWERTY-keyboard hands down? Samsung Galaxy Epic may be the only contender.
People are just pissed because they are poor and haven’t upgraded since 2008. Seriously, who even uses a Sidekick anymore? You need an upgrade, and this is more than you could ever imagine, if you know your facts. Get over it.
April 19th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
Everybody doesn’t want 4G this, and Android that, you stupid c*cksucking motherf*cker.
April 19th, 2011 at 4:24 pm
LMFAO!!
April 19th, 2011 at 4:27 pm
I’m not getting this bulky phone. Im sure there will be a newer more ADVANCED Sidekick (perhaps an LX version) to ship out before the year is out. Until then, I got my eyes on that HTC Sensation. Now THATS a phone!!!
April 20th, 2011 at 7:03 am
I think now that you have little choice of what to do if you still have your sidekick is why they might not be offering the options that I and some other got when we decided to leave earlier.
When i first tried to change my phone to the mytouch 4g they gave me the same stink, but then a little later on, i ended up talking to someone else cause my refund and contract still had not gone through from returning the phone and they let me keep the cheaper plan and got the new mytouch 4g again.
April 20th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
I just ordered my sidekick 4g XD
April 20th, 2011 at 8:16 pm
So I just got a Sidekick 4G and I LOVE IT!!!
The keyboard is nice and clicky
The interface/UI is slick
I haven’t experienced Any lag yet (and I’ve been using it all day)
And the 4G is Fast!
This is MUCH better than the Sidekick LX ’09 that I had for sure.
The new sidekick haters should really try it before bashing it, for sure!

Ok, I got one today at the promised by Loyalty Dept price of $100, kept my $20 unlimited data plan (its an extra $10 for unlimited text, big deal) LOVING the new phone! & I still got my 09 Kick if I need. A camera with flash! Quite impressed 🙂
April 21st, 2011 at 9:51 am
they got yu lol, because ther unlimited android data/text plan is $30 so it seem like they actually upgraded you to the android plan.
April 21st, 2011 at 5:26 pm
Just learned tonight that my data plan wasn’t unlimited and was over $700 in text tonight, so the girl on the phone took that off and put me back to my grandfathered plan – 29.99 – it is unlimited data. The girl at the local store said I would have to pay 49.99. I learned about it after I called about MMS not working, so I am glad I called!
April 22nd, 2011 at 6:31 am
so gonna get it 🙂 my upgrade is for $117

I went and got mines yesterday and I haven’t been able to put it down since. The messaging is still great. The cam doest have flash but photos still come out pretty good without it and dispite it only being 3mp. The screen isn’t overly large but it plays hd videos like a dream. The android os is something the sidekick needed a long time ago. We all know microsoft killed danger but this new kick is absolutely worth getting at any asking price. Multi tasking between text, facebook, twitter, web, ect is a breeze. And the front facing camera is just the icing on the cake. How long has a sidekick looked like it should do that? Well now it does and more. I’m very happy with this phone. Although 4G isn’t great where I live(my lx09 could never get 3g inside my house) the addition of wifi is purely awesome. I don’t feel the need to use my laptop as much just to freaking google! The keyboard takes some getting use to but its far better than those soft keys on the lx09. It has a sk3 type of feel to it. I can’t think of any more to say other than if you are a true fan of a the sk this phone won’t dissapoint or no longer make you feel weird saying I got a sidekick!
April 24th, 2011 at 1:07 pm
So are y’all still able to access the Tmail accounts your new Sidekick 4G?
April 24th, 2011 at 11:37 pm
Nope. 🙁
