Confirmed by T-Mobile’s Best Buy’s computers and a rebellious employee, the guys at Danger/T-Mobile are apparently taking after Microsoft and are offering the Sidekick LX in colors that remind us of the Zune. Yes, the Sidekick LX will be available not only in the blue/black color that we’ve already seen, but will also come in brown. (No word on a white one yet) As far as what shade of brown, we haven’t heard yet. A T-Mobile rep contacted us and let us know it is listed as Espresso Brown. Wouldn’t this color have been more appropriate for the SKiD guys?
One surprising thing to note from the pictures is that T-Mobile’s system says there’s a street date of 10-21-2007. One can guess that this means that T-Mobile stores will have the device on the 21st. So bribery and sweet-talking an employee just might get you a sneak peak.
Oh, and one more thing. There will be LEDs around the body of the device that flash with alerts.

We (along with several others I’m sure) just got word that the hiptop.com forums are on their way out. A new site is ready to take their place,
PoweredByDanger.com. Hiptop.com is going to stay alive, but Danger says it will probably be phased out by the end of 2007, only 3 more months to go. The hiptop.com forums are mirrored in a read-only fashion on the new site, and the accounts of the top posters (about 50 or so) were migrated. Everyone else will have to create a new account. Sorry guys, guess Danger rewards those that are active. 🙂 For anyone (all 10 of you) that had a hiplog on hiptop.com, your blog won’t be migrated over and you’ll have to start a new one on the new site.

Master P and his son, Romeo, are reportedly on board with T-Mobile to help promote the new
Sidekick LX. The angle of the campaign? To show that the Sidekick continues to be one of the most popular devices in the “urban communities”. Not only are they praising the device, they’ve also created a song about the Sidekick (entitled “Sidekick” of course) for inclusion in their next album, “Hip-Hop History”. The album is due out Sept 4th. No word on an official release on the Sidekick LX, but it would make sense from a marketing standpoint to promote both the album and the device around the same time. Our guess? Late September, early October.

In addition to
free Sidekick 3 themes, T-Mobile has finally included themes in the Download Catalog. This means that you can download a theme direct to your device if you’re willing to shell out $1.99 for the convenience. This also lets Sidekick iD owners customize their devices finally. Sidekick iDs don’t have a memory card, so you can’t load your own custom themes and backgrounds on them like you can with the Sidekick 3. To download themes direct from T-Mobile, check out the Download Catalog. For more information on creating your own custom themes, check out
sk3themes.com.

Consider it confirmed by Danger’s servers. The
Sidekick LX (
Sidekick 4) manual placeholder can be found
here. Looks like it’s going to be running Danger OS v4.4, a step up from the
Sidekick Slide’s version 4.0.

Sent in by a reader, we’ve got a large image file that has two possible logos for the Sidekick Slide and the Sidekick LX. this could be a good fake since it would not be difficult to make, but the Sidekick Slide logo does have the feel of a T-Mobile logo. But it is missing the familiar T-Mobile magenta color in it. The Sidekick LX logo just doesn’t look right for some reason. However, the T-Mobile copyright in the top left corner either gives some credit, or is just a nice touch by someone faking it.
Thanks R!

We’ve been poking around on the FCC site to see if anything has been submitted for the Sidekick Slide / Zante / Q700. So far nothing conclusive, but here are some suspects and why we think they’re suspect. We’d love to hear other’s opinions.
FCCID: IHDT56HU1
Documents filed on 06/15/2007, 45 day confidentiality puts full release on July 30th unless extension is filed.
Supports GSM 850, 1900, EDGE, and Bluetooth
“The transmitter is contained in a single chip solution, which integrates the Bluetooth baseband, RF transceiver, ARM7 TDMI, memory (ROM and RAM), and power management on one chip using 90nm process manufacturing and Digital RF Processor technology.”
Bluetooth Specification v2.0 adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) and extended Synchronous Connection Oriented (eSCO) is used to deliver a high-quality Bluetooth voice and enhanced data throughput.
Has Class 12 EDGE
Internal antenna: 36.6mm x 8.0mm
User Manual is 1.7megs
FCC Docs
FCCID: IHDT56HZ1
Documents filed on 05/15/2007, 45 day confidentiality puts full info release on June 29th unless extension is filed.
Supports GSM 850, 1900, EDGE, and Bluetooth
Can be connected to computer via USB
Uses batteries: SNN5810A, SNN5808A, SNN5805A. None of these battery models are found by google, new hardware design dictates a new battery?
It mentions some information about CDMA testing as well?
Internal antenna: 40mm x 6mm
User manual is 3.7megs
FCC Docs
But this could all be barking up the wrong tree as the information on the new Sidekick Slide may not even be in the hands of the FCC at this time. The above phones may just be some new thin device from Motorola with lots of Zs or Vs in the name.
Looking back at the Sidekick 3, all the FCC docs were released around April 22nd, with the device hitting stores (for upgrading customers) on June 28th, about 9 weeks. These docs put the guesstimated release date around Aug 30th or Sept 30th. The last leaked docs were talking about August 22nd. Just some food for thought.
